University of Hartford

I was so impressed with the campus and the college tour I went on, I truly hope my son will consider this school. Many moons ago my grandfather got his master’s from U of H, and said he really liked it when he attended. Mid-​sized school, financial aid to give, not ridiculously expensive compared to other private institutions, and 2 hours from Boston and NY!
Oh, and we were told you now have to pay a nickel per sheet of paper at copier/​printer in the library, but they did this in order to make doing laundry free instead! I wish college was like that when I went!

I was accepted to the University of Hartford after two years of community college. To be honest my SAT scores weren’t through the roof, but I did have applicable work experience to the major I was applying for (economics and finance).
To put it in comparison, UCONNS business school was looking for strict 3.5 GPA is with no exception. University of Hartford on the other hand looked at other qualities of a student, background, drive, they offered interviews for the Barney school of business that had some weight in my final application acceptance.
They happily accepted all 60 credits from my community college and I was immediately thrown into a course plan. All of the professors in the business school are PhD doctorates and have published articles for economic journals, finance, or have even worked at elite levels in our current market and economy.
University of Hartford also offers a extreme range of diversity. Students from all over the world including Korea, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Japan, Europe, and all over the United States. You can’t find this generally at any old state school! It’s an amazing way to meet friends, and make connections via this melting pot.
Some other strong suits about the University are: the hart school of music and arts. You will find the students scattered all over campus playing their instruments in the courtyards, walking and singing opera going to class, performing shows on campus and during the holidays, and even certain venues like the Bushnell. The Joseloff Gallery accurately portrays the abilities of the art students and professors. It changes seasonally and is absolutely gorgeous.
Some pitfalls about the University: I was a commuter student, and even with parking lots A through K there was still lack of parking! Comes with a fee of $ 75 per semester. Even with a $ 10,000 grant I didn’t have to pay back per year, and a scholarship from a local bank, I was still required to pay roughly $ 12,000 per semester as a commuter. I say again, per semester. That’s a total of 48,000 for two full years to get my bachelors degree. It is more than double to actually live on campus, and the dorm room accommodations aren’t the best.
There is also a language barrier between the students and the professors. Statistics professors hail from various parts of India, and published their own textbooks on campus and I found it very challenging in the classroom during lectures to understand the material with their thick accents. This required me to go seek a tutor. They are amazingly helpful.
I didn’t get a meal plan on campus solely for one reason. The food options are not great, another reason why I started using Unilocal!
There was also a conflict when and during my last semester. The university was transferring over from paper to electronic paperwork. In this process there was a confusion about a class I needed to take, and I was registered for a class I already had credit for! Sharing the responsibility with my advisor I had to take a short one week winter course that cost $ 1500, $ 500 per credit to graduate on time. There was lack of organization my senior year.
To end on a good note, Dr. Susan Coleman and Dr. Devon Johnson in the business school coordinated a wonderful abroad program to London England at Regent University! The professors truly care about the students and organized company visits to some major organizations and firms in the financial district of England. I was lucky enough to accompany them!
If you’re looking to study abroad, that is another reason to attend University of Hartford, they strongly encourage students to do so and have a whole office dedicated to this! Now that I am graduated, I am still able to use all the services in the library, career services on campus to help me find networking for new careers and jobs in the Hartford area, resume editing and help, along with many other services.

Excellent Library and computer services. Doesn’t hurt they have a Starbucks inside the library itself.

The common’s are a great place for staff to get a $ 5 all you care to eat meal with a range of options.

The Faculty at Ward College of Technology helped me so much throughout the years and guided me towards the right path with finding my educational purpose. The campus is small and I appreciated that the most, to be honest, since you can get around easily, especially when you have to get from one building to the next for classes, and only have like 10 to 15 mins. UofHa is a great institution. It wasn’t cheap though — I had a lot of financial dilemmas and setbacks (which I’m still paying for), but overall the experience was rewarding and I truly felt the support from my professors and advisors.
