A farm to a park Beachland park has been around for a long time. I have a friend who told me that he remembers playing basketball and sledding down the hill over half a century ago. He also told me that his father remembers growing up in this area when it was farmland and indeed there is a sign that mentions a Vine Hill Farm that use to be here. Hard to believe this congested area, full of stores, malls and houses use to be a farm. The park today is still pretty cool. Nicely maintained basketball courts, a baseball field that folks frequently use to run their dogs, a two pools that are very popular during the summer and nice places to walk. Beachland isn’t a large park but it does have a pond and fountain as well as Trout Brook running through it. It’s a nice spot to bring kids and have a picnic or just hang out in the nice weather. When the cold winds start to blow and the snow falls, the park becomes a very popular sledding place. A rather steep hill makes for some interesting and spectacular accidents. Beachland Park isn’t a well known park or a place that people travel long distances to visit. But for people in this area it is a nice place for a swim, walk or picnic, and a very pleasant reminder of what the area use to be like.
