I went there expecting a great time. Instead, my friends and me were literally kicked out because we were too loud(having too much fun) for the people behind us. The manager didn’t even bother to think they were just out to create a fight, just told us we had to leave. Very unprofessional. Will never go back. They don’t need comedians, the management is a joke.

Me and my girlfriend had a great time the staff was nice and friendly and 2 out of the 3 acts were awesome I would definitely go again. Warning…the food sucks don’t waste your time We ordered the spinach dip GROSS The shrimp and fries and it came with 7 small frozen butterfly shrimp and the fries were no the best at all. And the bacon BURGER… I will say the BURGER was OK still frozen but grilled enough to make it taste decent. But answer this what BURGER doesn’t come with tomatoes. Eat before you come

I used to love this place when it was located in the Cobblestone area. For those of you who didn’t know it before it moved out to West Des Moines might remember it had a friendlier feel to it. I am trying to support local but I know this place could be so much more than it is now. Now with a two item minimum purchase I feel like they are struggling to stay going. They give away tickets and then cross their fingers you are going to drink heavily at their bar prices. A friend won a couple tickets to see a hypnotist. We went ahead and called ahead and purchased a couple more so we all could go together. The pick up time is almost an hour before the show its self. Then you can either belly up to the bar or leave and come back. We decided to stay and get a head start on our two item each. We had the spinach dip which was okay. I had a long island, which, no complaints there, it was a good drink. The fun part is that it was in one of their many take away glasses. They have food on the menu but i feel like its all back in a freezer somewhere. I think overall I would have like more beverage than a glass. I have seen some really good events at the Funny Bone. I think the show I saw that night was great. I like the talent they bring in, just a little disappointed in staff and the newer rules. Ya gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

I’ve been to Funny Bone many times and have always had a good time… except tonight. The star of tonight was Joel Lindley and he was alright. Nothing major or as funny as previous comedians I’ve seen at Funny Bone. What really bugs me was the waiter we had. In the beginning everything was good, until he went around to distribute the checks. We have told him it’s a split check but guess he didn’t hear us, he brought the 1 check to our table. We told him it’s a split check so he said ok, let me re-run it which is great and we’re happy he can do that. However, it took him about 20 mins to get back to us with the split checks. Needless to say I wasn’t happy because everyone got their checks and paid for, we’re sitting there like idiots without our checks looking around to see when he wi get to out table. Definitely not my best night at the Funny Bone.

People — -you go to the Funny Bone for comedy. They don’t say they provide gourmet food – its going to be adequate food. Four times out of five, we went after receiving free tickets. There has never been a time when I wasn’t thoroughly entertained. Last night we had a very nice young man who served us courteously and did an excellent job. Had burgers, salads and it was all good. Have seen several prominent comedians here and glad Des Moines has a place where you can experience comedy entertainment.

Owner was rude(blonde old lady) she was working as a hostess during Mick Foley show. Anyway she need the learn good customer service. She sat us twice behind tall guys so we asked her twice if we can be move because she keep putting us where I can’t see(I’m 5ft 105 lb). The second time we asked to be move, I picked the table. She denied and was very rude and told us that we can’t keep asking her to move us but she keep putting us on a bad spot, behind tall people. I don’t think its hard to just uncross the assign seating chard. She doesn’t need to carry and move us, we can walk. She just need to uncross the old table and cross the new one that we pick on her chart, as if it too inconvenient for her. We spent $ 70 for the entrance for 2people(VIP night) + $ 55 for food and drinks because they have the mandatory 2 item order per person(talking about greedy in my opinion). I wanted to leave after the owner was rude to me but they don’t do refund even though the show hasn’t start yet. I would never go back to funny bone again.

I’ve been to the Funny Bone on numerous occasions and while the Comedy show is usually good, the service from the staff as always been lacking. They are now requiring a minimum of 2 orders per person, but despite this, they can’t be bothered to get you your food or drinks any in a timely fashion. And by this I mean it’s not uncommon for food to take 40 – 60 minutes. If you express any concern about this you simply get a whelp… what can do you kind of response. After this last bad experience with the Funny Bone, we are never going back.

Wait staff okay, depends on who you get. Door men will kick you out ifyoure a loud man after 2 issues(even when just laughing being happy) and 6 issues when a woman(and booing being rude). Drinks weak & over priced. Food small portions and over priced. Comics sub-par. Intro act okay. Next act usually terrible. Mainact, on the verge of homelessness. I’ve been here over 30 times. It’s sad. It sucks. They’re sexist. Their free tickets you win aren’t free. Boo.

Everything about this place is wonderful except for the staff. The comedians are top notch, always very funny. The tickets are very reasonably priced and well-worth the money. Drink and food prices aren’t outrageous. I’ve been here at least 10 times and at least 80% of the time the waiters, waitresses and and bartenders have been rude. The whole«we are too busy to be nice» attitude. I know they are busy but that’s doesn’t stop other places from having friendly service! Overall it’d be a 5 but for the staff, man! And the older blonde woman sneering over her glasses, otherwise known as «the keeper of the seats» is, and will continue to be, the WORST.

Drinks are over priced and on weekends(when most hard working people can find the time to go) you often find yourself sitting elbow to elbow with strangers. But I can over look almost anything except the fact that the funny bone has invited d.l. hughley to perform. For those of you who only know that hughley is mildly funny and nothing else, I invite you to listen to his radio show on 98.3 fm. This man is a racist 100%. He talks about how the whites treat blacks like shit and he reminds me of al sharpton. Bottom line for me… I’m done with the funny bone. They’ll never get another dollar out of me for inviting and allowing a racist to stand in front of an audience, many of whom will likely be «white trash«and pretend to love all people regardless of skin color when in FACT hughley would like to see all whites gone from the planet. Screw you hughley and screw you too funny bone.

Can’t believe I ordered a bottle of wine and food and they still refused to give me a glass of water. I understand wanting people to spend money here, but $ 3 for a bottle of water when our table was clearly spending money…

Nice comedy club with touring and local comedians. Staff is friendly, drinks can be a bit pricey, atmosphere is mostly friendly. Every night is different with a comedian and different crowd. The spot is of course dependent on the talent that night, but when I went it was really good. ENJOY!

I agree with the other reviewers that the rating should be based solely on the club itself. My husband, me and 2 of our friends went to see Dave Coulier last night. We arrived an hour before the show was scheduled to start. They did not start to seat people until about 20 minutes after the show was scheduled to start. Not a huge deal, shows can go long and the house staff has to clean up from the last show. No problem. Our issues started after seating began. First, it was crowded and since they seat by whoever gets to the host(or hostess) first, it was a mad push toward the entrance. It felt like a Black Friday sale. Then, as our group reached the podium, the hostess(who I believe was also the manager) was letting people in ahead of our group. My husband pointed out to the hostess that she was letting people cut in line and she gave some snarky retort like, «Everyone will get in, just wait your turn.» She then continues to let another two groups go ahead of us! My husband finally forces the issue and puts the ticket on the podium in front of the hostess. We finally get assigned a table, directly behind a group that cut in front of us and was taller than us, so we spent most of the show looking around people’s heads. The food & drink prices are high, but thats not unexpected since I know they give away a lot of tickets. Not a huge issue there. Our server was very friendly, attentive and cool under pressure. Great job! The unorganized system of seating and the rudeness of that manager will probably keep me from returning, at least for special engagements.

Arrived at 6:30PM for 7:30PM show as recommended. The lobby was full and had to wait outside so plan to arrive prior to an hour before the show for best seating. With regards to the seating, we understood it to be first come but that’s not necessarily the case. The club staff assigns you to a table however we found if you don’t like the table immediately tell the person seating you and show them where you prefer to be seated — they won’t like it but… In our case although 50% of the seating was unoccupied when we were seated we were taken to undesirable seats that had our back to the stage — we immediately requested different seats. My wife and I ordered blended drinks at $ 6.00 each. We could not taste any liquor in our drinks and they had no pleasing affect on either of us. We did not order more drinks. I brought a bottle of water not knowing any better. The server saw me drinking it and reported it to management. A manager visited my table and informed me beverages of any kind could not be brought in the club. I was disappointed the server herself didn’t inform of that and offer me a glass of water. There’s no doubt the club makes their money by pushing food and drinks. In example, the folks sitting next to us spent $ 75 on drinks and an appetizer. It was also distracting to have servers consistently passing by our table throughout the show. On the positive side, the entertainment was good. This was our first visit to the club and we would definitely go again now knowing what to expect.

The acts not withstanding, if you want a customer service experience where customers are treated with scorn and disdain, this is the place for you. The Funny Bone — we’re better than you and we know it!

Service is really lacking here, not sure why the FB has such a tough time finding good people. Sweet potato fries are good. Love the free tickets.

OK people, its a comedy club, and everyone gets picked on. If you can’t handle various jokes about race, religion, sex, and other off limit subjects we encounter in everyday life, than maybe you should stick to church socials. Comedy is meant as a way for us to laugh at ourselves, and chill. They usually have two shows, 7:30 and 9:45, and the later show is usually more rambunctious attracting many from the local bars. The earlier shows usually have less drunks, but the later shows tend to be funnier and more unpredictable. This club brings real top notch talent to Des Moines, and my favorites are the Untames Shrews(very dirty show), Bobby Lee and Brian Posehn. Compared to clubs I have been to other large cities, Des Moines is lucky to have a club of this caliber. Yes the food is not top notch, barely above bar food and the menu is somewhat limited. After a couple rum and cokes who cares! Leave your inhibitions at home, have some drinks, laugh and have a good time. It’s a comedy club after all…

The Funny Bone in Des Moines does a good job of bringing top comedy talent to Central Iowa. I’ve seen several comedians here, including Ralphie May and Doug Benson. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the lesser known acts more. The drinks run a bit pricey here and the food’s just fair, but as Diane A. mentioned, one doesn’t so much go to a comedy club to eat, but it’s nice to have the option. I’ve found that service can be hit or miss. If you give the place your email address, they often email free ticket offers, usually for up to 6 free tickets on a weeknight(they’re trying to fill up the shows). Tickets are fairly affordable normally($ 10-$ 25 or so).

Because Funny Bone is more well known as a Comedy Club, I’ll rate a majority according to that. The night I came here(Thursday)…tickets were only $ 10/person…even better, they don’t lay on a 2 drink minimum like a lot of other comedy clubs Im used to back in LA. Seating is ample, accommodates a big crowd, yet intimate enough to feel close to the comedian. The wait staff was actually pretty on top of things, and were more than willing to make an off-menu drink of choice. Obviously, you don’t go to a comedy club to eat, but their menu does offer pastas, steaks, and apps… very good to keep you occupied if you’re there early for seats. Funny bone is a great place to go with pals for a few hours without denting your wallet.
