I won’t bad mouth anyone. A few of the staff are friendly and helpful enough, especially the tall guy with the big beard, but some of the guys need a refresher course on professional courtesy.
The job was simple enough: install tow hitch receiver. The receiver is actually designed to be bolt right on to the frame of my model vehicle.
During installation the mechanic tells me, «we’ve got a major problem.»
I ask him what the issue is and tells me that the spare tire is in the way and he can’t bolt on the receiver. I told him to lower the spare a little so it can be pushed ahead an inch. That’s a small shift for a spare tire that is suspended with a cable under the truck.
After telling me that this won’t work the mechanic tells me the only option is to remove the spare tire and put it in the back of the pick up truck so he can install the hitch receiver. I said okay just to get the job done.
After driving home I took the spare out of the truck and hoisted it back up underneath, snugged nicely in between the hitch mounts. No problem.
Maybe I’m wrong, but in my opinion someone who is employed as a professional mechanic should be able to figure this out.
If you’re considering taking your vehicle to Pep Boy, I highly recommend you ask a friend to refer you to an alternative auto shop.

I originally had a not so stellar performance from the guys here at Pep-​Boys but after I was contacted by a manager I retracted my previous statements. The customer service that I was shown after expressing my issues was spectacular. Quick responses and professional demeanor. They seem to be getting it together.

I was only pissed off when they reneged on an advertised deal for an oil change by claiming they had to put synthetic oil in the engine (um, no, but thanks for telling me *after* you did it). But when they didn’t even put enough oil in, almost leading to catastrophic engine damage, well that made me absolutely furious. Mercifully, a more qualified shop managed to diagnose the check engine code that clued me in to what happened and save me from whatever damage the incompetent knuckleheads could have caused. Do yourself a favor, save your money and your car and take your business elsewhere.

After ordering my tires online I decided to use this shop for installation. Came in for my 9am appointment and stood at the service desk. Multiple people walked by, never acknowledging me, I was finally helped after 15 or 20 minutes. My tires were delivered to their shop, so I hand over my keys and head to the tiny waiting area located in the retail shop. At 12 noon I decide to check on the progress considering I was originally quoted «about an hour» for the work to be completed. He replies that they’re just taking my car back now and it should be done in 30 mins… Whatever the work gets done eventfully and I drive home.
The next morning when my husband leaves for work he notices that one of my tires is completely flat. So he calls Pep Boys. They have no way of towing my car to their shop so he puts the donut on and I call them for when I can come in to get the work done immediately (because I don’t want to wait nearly 4 hours like yesterday). I should also mention that never even remotely has an apology been offered by anyone that either my husband or myself have spoken to. I arrive at the shop at our agreed-​upon time and ask for Nick as instructed, when I ask that all of the tires be checked if they were all done properly Nick rolls his eyes and says he’ll make a note of that. As if I should have some sort of confidence in their work. So, here I sit and wait for the work that should have been done properly yesterday to be done again. I was assured that he would squeeze me in and it would be done quickly. After sitting here for 20 mins so far my car hasn’t left the spot I parked in. I will update once todays work has been done as to whether or not my tire goes flat again. At which point I will certainly go elsewhere and pay for it to be done correctly.
Anyways, don’t come here! Rude, inconsiderate and ultimately apparently not very good at their job.
UPDATE: The second time around my tire did not go flat (yay!) the work was done in about an hour which was fine, they did leave the hubcap off, but whatever. After seeing my review their customer service manager called me wanting to chat. I called back and (of course) Nick answered, this time he apologized a couple of times :). Ultimately my review remains unchanged but I appreciate the call and eventual apology.

Seemingly honest and good intentioned, these guys have done great things for my boyfriend’s car over the years.
I brought my own car in recently for a check transmission message at my boyfriend’s chiding, and they took it in to do diagnostics. To their credit, when they didn’t find anything wrong, they kept digging. The gentleman actually called me back a second time to say they did find something wrong in the deep dive diagnostic test.
I was told they’d fill me in on everything when I came to pick up the car and they had a coupon waiting for me for the transmission shop they recommended. Well, I went in to pick up my car and was met with a $ 50+ bill and no coupon for the transmission place.
So basically, I was told to bring it somewhere else for $ 50. I felt like they could have told me up front that they wouldn’t be able to help the transmission and just to bring it elsewhere. Maybe it’s just me. I’ll keep going to my regular repair shop, and we’ll see what the transmission place says!

Really hate how these guys tout a sale price and recover this money by adding charges to you elsewhere.
e.g. «Buy 3 tires, get the 4^th free!», then charge you $ 60 for their Road Hazard Warranty (not optional if you want the 4^th free). Then if you try to use it, they aggressively prorate your reimbursement —
