Helping Hands Moving Company

I hired Helping Hands to move me on 1÷23÷11. In addition to unsatisfactory service, my dining room table was damaged and my entertainment center destroyed beyond repair. In trying to move my entertainment center, the movers disassembled it without using tools and in the process ruined it.
Since my moving date in January, I have attempted to resolve the many issues that occurred due to the company’s incompetence. As a result, this company stated that they submitted a claim for both my dining room table and my entertainment center to their insurance company. After an offer of $ 75 for the damage to my dining room table, they offered to have it fixed professionally. Although it was not repaired to the state it was before the move, I agreed to take it back in the semi-​repaired condition (and did not get the $ 75).
I received a check in the amount of $ 90 as a reimbursement for my entertainment center. This amount is a tenth of what the furniture cost when I bought it and it is impossible to find a similar piece for anywhere near that amount of money.
After speaking with my insurance agent, she advised me that unless the check I received for the entertainment center had their insurance company’s name on it, there was no proof that they had ever submitted the claim. The check I received was from the moving company, not an insurance company. Remember, I moved the end of January and it was not until May that I even received a check. This was after multiple emails and phone calls requesting to speak with the owners. The owners never returned my phone calls nor did they email me. Instead, the only communication I received was from the person who gave me the initial bid.
This information is just the worst part of the move. They did not use blankets, other pieces of furniture and the walls were scratched and dinged, and they did not move the boxes to their designated spots (which I later had to carry upstairs myself). They only sent 2 men, so to move just myself out of my apartment, took them all day. This was the first time I had hired professional movers. In the past, with just friends helping, it took us half a day from start to finish.
I am currently researching filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the the Moving Association. I’m also contemplating legal action.
I have never written a negative review about a company before. I felt compelled to share this with the public so that no one else would be cheated by this company in the future. Hire at your own risk!

As a follow up to my review, I was contacted by company management regarding my experience.
They asked me what it would take to resolve this situation. Given the length of time involved and the negative experiences (on both sides — I’m sure), I requested a partial refund for the damage to my couch so we could close the issue. Management explained to me that the reason this was so problematic is that they’ve never had this type of problem before, wihich is why it was handled so poorly.
Instead of a partial refund, the offered a full refund on my couch and offered to come pick up it the next day.
Therefore, within 24 hours, I received the refund and the damaged couch was removed from my home.
While it took some time to get there, ultimately I was satisfied with the outcome.
