Pinecroft has been famous for «Best Ice Cream» since 1951… and a fine family restaurant since 1980. Serving lunch & dinner daily. Our food is fresh, prepared to order with a touch of class. Fresh Angus Burgers, very creative salads, Lobster Salad Rolls, excellent sandwiches, all-day entrees. The best spot in town for family dining. Beer & wine by the glass. No distracting Keno or TV’s; just good old fashioned food & extraordinary service in a spotless atmosphere. Ice Cream window service in the summer, Concerts every weekend on our grassy lawn & a Farmer’s Market on Sunday mornings.

History

Established in 1919.

Pinecroft was a working dairy farm producing milk from its own cows until 1970’s. In 1951, a high quality was first produced. Since then, it’s been recognized as «the Best in Worcester County». In 1980 the business was sold to the Pearson family from West Boylston & a fine family restaurant was added. In 2009, a summer Concert Series was launched that is very popular. In the summer of 2015, a Sunday morning Farmer’s Market is on tract. In It’s still operated by the Pearson’s & pride of ownership is reflected in the quality of the ice cream, food & service.

Six dollars and fifty cents for a kiddie sized sundae? The cups were less than half full of ice cream. The owner or manager woman actually had the window girl weigh one of my sundaes on the scale. Why? was the quarter pint of ice cream too heavy? Where are the nuts? I don’t have a nut allergy, where are the freekin nuts! Why is the peanut butter ice cream freezer
it left over from last season? And I should have ordered a turtle sundae to match the speed of the service. Might have been good in the 60’s and seventies,…not any more!
4/17/2016…This owner responds to all negative reviews making up excuses or saying any negative reviews are bogus. Check other reviews or Tripadvisor and this will be confirmed. He came on here and said I «have issues» .Perhaps he should spend more time fixing the“issues” of his restaurant. Other reviewers have commented on crystallized ice cream and portion sizes also. He should try to resolve the issues of his customers instead of always being on the defensive.

We hadn’t been to this place in years and were amazed that it is virtually unchanged. I noticed that they’re actually still using vintage shake making equipment from the 50s or 60s. There is something seriously cool about a place that can transport you back in time like that… they are few and far between.
Plus the ice cream is excellent and the service is great.

Idyllic slice of Americana and a must for ice cream parlor enthusiasts. Warm, attentive, and friendly service; a solid lobster roll; and a phenomenal ice cream menu. Plus they have trivial pursuit cards at the booths! I’ll remember this visit for a while — and we’ll be back!

We come here in the summer for ice cream, we have yet to eat a meal inside (but plan to). The young helpers at the ice cream window are always polite, and the ice cream always hits the spot. My last trip I tried a strawberry smoothie (yum!) They have a couple picnic tables & a lawn where you can spread out a blanket & enjoy some music on a summer night. Who wouldn’t love Pinecroft?

Stopped here on a whim… it’s got a nice diner vibe on one side and ice cream parlor on the other side. We were greeted quickly, had a great waitress… ordered a Turkey BLT… It was real turkey they roasted, not deli crap. The bread, bacon, tomato and lettuce all fresh… it was, for such an ordinary sandwich, really terrific! The sweet potato fries were hand made and incredible!

They don’t make then like this anymore. No really. it’s a great old school place. High quality food and ice cream lots of different options. Great place in the summer with live outdoor music. Never had a bad experience fast attentive service. If you haven’t been try it to see what it’s like eating in a place with some history!

I can only review the ice cream. Perfect place to stop for that old school ice cream where quality, size, and value are still important. They offer more then a couple dozen flavors from the traditional vanilla, chocolate and strawberry to the more outrageous Graham Central Station, Carmel cashew crunch, and birthday Cake. The ice cream is rich and creamy just the way I like it. Service was great, and as friendly as always. Great place to stop with the kids for that after dinner treat.

Very old. Opened in 51 and I dont think it has been changed since. Its like friendlys used to be. I personally find this very comforting and very different. The portions are LARGE and everything is cheap. My only issues are the lack of staff and the cooking isnt perfect.

Great ice cream, unfortunately the run out of my favorite (black raspberry) frequently. We’ve stopped eating in the restaurant because the service is so slow, but we go a couple times a week during the summer for ice cream.

This place is like a high quality Friendly’s with ice cream and dinner type food. I did not try the food so I can not speak for its quality.
I had a walnut fudge ice cream which was super creamy and very chocolaty while not being overpowering with a good amount of chopped walnuts in it. They had a handful of flavors that sounded interesting, but none of them really called out to me. There was plenty of parking and lots of nice places to sit even though it was tucked next to an off ramp for 190 it didn’t feel it.

Opened in 1952, Pinecroft Restaurant has been a Worcester staple and provider of high quality ice cream. I wasn’t able to eat a meal there, but I did try the ice cream and it was well delish.
I tried two types of ice cream. The pistachio ice cream was full of flavour and riddle with shaved pistachios. The flavour was not overpowering by any means, and the ice cream had a nice consistency and creaminess to it. Next was the best of the two named Moose Tracks. This ice cream was a vanilla base, swirled with fudge, and stacked with mini Reese’s Peanut Butter cups!!! Drop a couple scoops in a sugar cone and you’re laughing.
I highly recommend hitting up Pinecroft if you’re in the area for some stellar ice cream.

I cannot review the food or service inside as I have never eaten here but for the last seven years (nearly as long as I’ve lived in MA) this place has been on my list of places to visit every time I’m nearby. I always pick up 2 quarts of ice cream and am never disappointed. My favorites used to be Purple Cow and Strawberry Cheesecake but in recent years they added the world’s best Cake Batter (makes Ben and Jerry seem like amateurs). They have about 40 flavors including some frozen yogurts and low carb flavors plus all of the usual sundaes, shakes, and floats. Anyone who likes ice cream will find something to enjoy here but trust me its worth finding your way here hidden though it is.

As really young child I use to come to this place all the time, I lived right around the corner in the burncoat area, and I would be here atleast once a week. Pinecroft in it’s glory days, there was still a tiny little store on top of the hill, and fake cows in the lawn. And the hill and wall would be filled with people enjoying their ice cream. The food inside was good as well, fast servvice the whole bit.
But times have changed… I went in here recently for some nostoglia… and inside it still looks the same. Which is nice, because everything is really changing now. The same booths and counters. But I swear it’s the slowest service in the whole freaking world. 45 minutes for a sandwicth? Nuh-uh. Apparently this commonplace here these days. And in the summer there are no more long lines, or tons of people getting ice cream. Just a few old folks getting ice cream. So it seems. The food it’s self is mediocore. As a child part of thrill of eating here was that you could watch them make the ice cream, but w hen you get older that changes… sigh. I miss being a kid.
Today this place is far past it’s glory days, its only a matter of time I am afraid before this place goes out of business.

This place brings back memories. Multi-generational memories. My mother tells me about Pinecroft when they had cows grazing and she came for the fresh ice cream as a child. When my grandmother was a child, it was a dairy without the ice cream. And when I was growing up, it was a perfect place for a family to get a casual lunch, then (you guessed it) ice cream for dessert. You can watch them making the sundaes and milkshakes right from your table; the lack of division between their workspace and your eating space makes for a very casual relationship between staff and customers, in a good way. Food’s simple, but good (sandwiches, salads, chips on the side, comfort food entrees). It’s been a long time since I’ve had their ice cream, actually, so I can’t confidently review it from childhood memories. Besides table service, there’s a counter (inside and out) to buy ice cream to go, and you can purchase half gallons of their high-quality ice cream.
When I was a kid, the chain Bergson’s owned Pinecroft. If you were ever familiar with Bergson’s, that will give you some idea of the type of food they have. When Bergson’s went out of business, I think this shut down for a while, but fortunately it reopened as an independent restaurant.
The cows of my mother’s childhood, sadly, are gone. But they have old photos around, and a mural painted on the wall, of what the area used to look like.
In sum, this is basically like Friendly’s, but much nicer, more adult (though also good with kids), and um, more friendly.
