Star of David Memorial Chapels

We had no personal experience with any funeral homes on Long Island, so when our father passed and it came time to select one, we were very nervous about putting such great responsibility on strangers without any personal recommendations. Star of David is near my sister’s home, and other than Unilocal reviews, we knew nothing about the facility. We took a chance and were so relieved that the staff was accommodating, knowledgeable and helped us every step of the way. The facility was very clean and attractive. We never felt rushed and always felt like we could ask questions. The staff was approachable and efficient. All arrangements were made easily, and the morning we laid our father to rest went smoothly so that all we had to focus on was saying good-​bye to Dad. I’m grateful and would recommend Star of David to others.

I would like to express my appreciation for the way everything was handled for us. From the minute mom closed her eyes at home all we did was pick up the phone and called Kevin. With in minutes his staff was there to pick up mom. These arrangements were pre arranged quite some time ago. We did nothing. Loved Max, great guy, felt like family. Everything was handled by them. We used the funeral home of our choice. I have been recommending The Star Of David Memorial Chapel to Everyone at my hair salon. Mom looked absolutely beautiful.
The best she looked in years. She was 94. Her friends were amazed how beautiful and young she looked. The beautician did a super fantastic job. I have used this company 11 years ago for my mom. This is a one stop shopping. I will continue to use them. Thanks again Kevin, Mac and staff.

We live in California and had to handle all the preparations long distance. Andrew Novak was impeccable in his demeanor and assistance in making this go as smoothly as possible. The facility was comfortable and inviting for us and our guests and all arrangements were done to our full satisfaction with staff living up to the standards that Andrew set.

I have to say that my experience with the Star of David Chapel was excellent & I would highly recommend them. My husband’s death was completely unexpected, but the consideration & service I received here was outstanding in my time of need. I had friends with recent family passings, so they prepared me with what I might have to deal at a funeral home. I had contacted more than one, so I have to say that my contact with Andy here at the Star of David was professional, calming & caring.
My first contact was over the phone and Andy went over everything and prices were discussed. When I made an appointment here after speaking with another place, my family was very pleased with the appearance of the chapel and the way that business was conducted. There was not a push for anything that we didn’t want (hate when salesman do that) and there were no hidden costs. Everything was as said and provided for on the day of the services (also things that I had not thought of, such as memorial candles for immediate family members.) Even when I called after we left, my questions were answered promptly & courteously.
We didn’t have to do anything ourselves the day of the funeral, the chapel staff handled everything (and us) without a hitch (so sorry I didn’t get the name of the other gentleman who was directing that day, he was terrific.) I had never heard of using the web for this, but the chapel even had a web broadcast (password protected) for friends & family to watch the ceremony. Seemed strange but I have to say that those who could not make it to the ceremony were thrilled that they could watch & feel a part of it.

I have never been more upset and disappointed with a funeral home or memorial chapel!
Their office staff is incredibly rude. I was spoken to very harshly over the phone, and in someone’s time of grief, this is unacceptable.
The funeral director’s graveside manor was less than impressive. «You have my condolences.» (quick handshake and walk away) I’m sorry you had some where else to be.

I’m not used to rating Memorial Chapels. Seems kind of odd to do so in the mix of restaurant reviews. I just felt it was important to give my thoughts on Star of David.
I wanted to express my appreciation for Star of David Memorial Chapel. I was here yesterday for a funeral and I thought the chapel was beautiful and very serene. The center piece of the chapel is an internal silent water fixture which provided a peaceful effect while the service was taking place.
I was also pleased to see that there was more than enough room for everyone to mull and talk prior to the service which is always important at unfortunate events like these.
The chapel is also located in the midst of a series of cemeteries, so it is very conveniently located.
If you find yourself in the unfortunate predicament of dealing with the passing of someone, I would not hesitate recommending Star of David.

My father passed away in Florida.
He wanted to be buried in his family plot in New Montefiore Cemetery on Long Island. We wanted to hold a tasteful funeral service that was close to the cemetery so that the most number of people in our family could attend both the funeral and the graveside service.
It was really important to me that he have a kosher Jewish burial, including all the traditions of ritual purity.
Star of David really came through for us. They arranged to bring my father back from Florida. Their chapel is literally across the street from the cemetery. Their preparations of the body for burial follows Jewish law to the letter and is carried out by a trustworthy Cheva Kaddisha.
Their chapel room is clean, new and dignified — not gaudy. It reminded me of a synagogue.
Jewish law leaves precious little time to make arrangements for burial. Our options were few. They could have taken advantage of us, like so many in this industry do. Instead, they ended up saving us hundreds of dollars compared to the price we were quoted in Florida, a fact which would have made my father VERY happy.
Had we hunted, we might have found a cheaper funeral, perhaps. But none that would have satisfied all of our needs so well. And you only get one chance to get this right.
They got it right.
