Do Your Brew

Looking through the window it’s clear this place is serious, no fluff, just focused on brewing. As a complete noob, and reviews about a surly owner, I was admittedly hesitant. Walked in with head down thinking a quick look and I could bolt to do more research. Said surly owner walked up, I admitted my total lack of brewing knowledge, and an hour later I walked out smiling with a solid starter kit to apologize to my now furious wife. A week later and what seems like a very happily fermenting kolsch about to be transferred to secondary fermenter, I am headed back to get another dose of wonderful (and I would use savvy not surly) knowledge.
My apology to said surly wife? Planning date night to brew at one of the classes they host. I married the right woman. Which is good because I now have a new and expensive hobby…

Great grain selection, super friendly and knowledgeable staff! They offer you a site to brew! They also have beers on tap that the staff has made for you to taste! Do Your Brew assembles their own brew kits as well. My husband and I came in with our infant for grains and yeast, they made us feel welcome and were very nice!

I have shopped in there several times over the years. Usually when I need something on my way home from work and won’t be able to make it to my normal shop.
They have a good selection of supplies and equipment, however, it is generally pricier than the other places I go.
If you are not sure of yourself and ask a question, you better be intimidating or the owner will be a jerk or demeaning. Yes, he is knowledgeable, but his attitude and customer service just sucks. The last time I was in there I was brewing up a Mead for the first time. He helped me a bit and then wondered off. The young guy had to finish helping me.
Years back, I bought a few Hops rhizomes from him and he seemed ok then. So, maybe he is getting burned out. Or, he would rather just teach and deal with his students and nobody else…

I’m sad I’m moving away from here. Terry has taught me a lot in the years I’ve been brewing. If I make a recipe and they don’t have a certain ingredient they are willing to help find a comparable alternative. They have worked with my ideas and encouraged me in my experiments and given opinions and pointers for where they’ve erred in the past. There are many people in there in different points in their brewing «carreers» that have ideas and opinions to share. It’s a great community in this store and I’ll truly miss it.

The owner has horrible people skills. I will not return due to his insulting attitude. Not to mention if you have have a question about brewing he will snicker and give a sarcastic response. The only positive about this place is the brew kits. The owner is still an asshole.

I’m assuming it was the owner I was talking to behind the counter. Middle aged gentlemen. ARROGANT A HOLE.
He is what I like to call a craft beer Nazi.

This store kicks ass. Everything you need to make beer with, IS HERE. They even offer classes on brewing. Do Your Brew is the only brew store I shop at. The staff is always ready to answer any question you may have about brewing. Terry, the Master Brewer, literally has all the answers and advice you may seek. The Grain selection is good and with the new up and coming grain room they’re building, it should be better. Two thumbs up. The best part is that you can sample certain beers before you buy the kit and these guys make great beer. CHEERS!

This store is a haul of a drive for me, but I went twice upon a neighborly recommendation by a nearby neighbor who swears by this place. The upshot was that they had the yeast I needed that my normal store does not carry. I didn’t find the staff overly friendly. The employe wasn’t rude, rather, I was just a transaction. That’s fine; so long as service isn’t rude, I can live with that when all I’m spending is $ 4. I could swing in here if I was in that town for some reason, and I’m sure it’s fine for those nearby, but it’s not a regular place for me to shop. They also offered a number of kits at reasonable prices (compared to some online store costs).

Well, «Do Your Brew», not only shows you how to do it, they have everything you need… right there.(Bottles, design and create your own labels, corking and most importantly, storage space).
Oh, you know it all?
You’ve been brewing your own craft ale for ages and John Hickenlooper actually asks you for guidance or your toes are permanently stained with grape juice because you’re a master stomper and cork soaker (sorry SNL).
Then this place is perfect for you too, as the Owner has recipes, yeast strands (from local breweries) and an array of other home brewers willing and able to trade recipes, bad batches and golden barley victories. You need to stop in just for supplies.
I know, sounds like the perfect night for friends, family, first dates, a newly wed couple wanting to make their own wedding wine and design that special label and have it on their table… right?
It could be.
It has all the potential. But the owner, although a great brewer, very knowledgeable and helpful, just lacks that get up and go customer service.
If he would just «get it», perhaps offer a smile and not seem to be so bothered and pre-​occupied, (surly), this place could be so much fun. I’ve made wine there a few times. Came in with a few bottles of our favorite vino with friends, cheese and snacks to bottle, and the fun factor gets lost. Bummer.

Agree with others about the grumpy young guy. He’s an eye roller/​sigher. He’s in the wrong business. Must be somebody’s son.
The owner Terry is cool (chatted me up a little, poured me a taster of IPA and showed me how to use the crusher) and the woman working there was especially friendly and chatty. I’ll be back but I won’t try to engage the younger guy at all.
They had what I needed and I left happy.

I was looking for cheese making supplies in the Denver Metro area and was able to pick up the rennet and calcium chloride at Do Your Brew on 88^th Ave. I was just making mozzarella, but they have the supplies for hard cheeses as well.
They have a good selection, animal, vegetable and tablet rennet. Price slightly higher than on line– but local and get it now so worth while. I’ll be back!

After signing me and my boyfriend up for an Intro Class I was a little skeptical with all of the bad reviews of the staff. I was pleasantly surprised. Terry was very nice and had a told of knowledge of home brewing and showing us his products. We had a very good time making our first batch of home brew. It’s a fun class and I highly recommend it. The only suggestion is after signing up is to have a list of Ale’s to choose from that you can make. Thanks for a fun date night!

I came across this brew shop when hop to it/​stomp them grapes (my usual shop) ran out of malt… for weeks! This place seemed to have a good selection but they were in the middle of moving into the larger space next door. The guy was pretty helpful but not very chatty which I found odd since I was the only one in there.
They had a backroom that looked like it was used from brewing demos and classes. It was pretty impressive and I look forward to going there for a class.

This isn’t my go-​to home brewing store. But Stomp them Grapes let me down (as far as not having something I needed in stock) for the first time in a year, so I had to make the trek up to Do Your Brew to pick up a 29 mm capping bell.
I didn’t think the staff was rude like many others, but I also don’t think they were particularly friendly either. The owner (the one I assume everyone is talking about) didn’t seem to be super happy. If you’re going to be running a homebrew shop, you really should be excited to talk homebrewing to people. He wasn’t
But my main problem with this store is that the two small things I purchased were 20%-30% more expensive than the list price at Stomp Them Grapes.
Probably won’t be back except in case of emergency.

When I arrived at the store no one was there to greet me. After looking around for 5 minutes someone finally stumbled out of the back. He was unhelpful and frankly was a jerk. This is the first time since I can remember that a actually felt uncomfortable enough to walk out of a store.
I asked him for a bag to put my grains in and he looked at me like I had 10 heads and then smugly handed me a bucket (which I assume that you are not supposed to keep seeing how it was filthy).
Fortunately, the owner and a woman who works there showed up halfway through my visit. They were helpful and nice.
My advice, if the younger employee with dark hair is there when you arrive just leave.

I’m new to brewing, so I thought they would be helpful. Not so much. I went in once to check it out. Prices seemed ok and it was clean. The owner seemed more interested in helping somebody that had signed up for his class.
I needed a carboy right away, so I called them for a price. When I got there, they charged me $ 5 more. I brought it to his attention, and he said «I guess I told you the wrong price.» No ‘I’m sorry’ or ‘oops’. Nothing. I had to get a carboy that night, so I bought it. Will I ever go back? Hells no! I had a recipe that called for 2 yeast packs
also, but he talked me out of getting one. He claimed no brew needed 2 packs. I read more and had to go to another store to get the yeast I needed.

I’ve been there twice and been unhappy both times. The guy who runs the store is a jerk.
I bought a pound of bottle caps, and he accused me of stealing some. When he went to weigh them, he realized what I measured was actually under weight, and he didn’t even apologize.
I had a Groupon for two brew kits. He didn’t have any of the kits listed on the Groupon in stock, so he told me to come back. I came back a few weeks later, and he still didn’t have one in stock. He offered to make the kits for me, but it took him well over an hour, and he let me know how annoyed he was.
While I waited, other customers came in. He was rude to them as well, getting annoyed when they asked questions.
And, to top it all off, my buddy who I brew with bought some supplies from him. We needed to weigh the hops for our brew. Turns out this guy’s 1 oz. packs of hops only have 0.9 oz. of hops in them. He’s short-​changing his customers on weight.
I will never go here again.

Went to this place through a Living Social coupon. The owner was pretty disorganized and lost our reservation, but once we got going, it was better. Wine making was pretty involved, but didn’t learn a whole lot since it was a kit and if you did it wrong, Terry was quick to jump in. Ended up with 30 bottles for ~$ 68 so not too bad of a deal. Now have to wait til New Year’s to drink!

We stumbled upon this place on our way home from our phở/​Home Depot outing. I recently got my husband into homebrewing, but he hasn’t ventured beyond his Mr. Beer kit. We’ve been meaning to head out east to The Brew Hut, but we never manage to make it out there.
I spotted this store heading west on 88^th. We turned the car around and pulled into the parking lot. The store closed in 5 minutes, but the guy told us to stay as long as we wanted. The owner is knowledgeable and eager to share what he knows. He was patient in answering our questions and knows what he’s talking about! He teaches classes there every Wednesday, and I hope my husband will sign up. He also has winemaking supplies for the winos out there.
