Hair cutting is an art, not a hobby and we take it seriously. Color is just as important. We choose L’Oreal color products because we believe them to be the best. Along with excellent products L’Oreal offers their salons the very best in education. We recently became certified to carry and use INOA. The only permanent no ammonia hair color. This means we have been through extensive training not only in formulating the best color to suit you but the most current techniques available. Color correction is also something that we do well if not better than the rest. The reason is simple. We want to build trust. You can trust that we will never sell you a service you do not need. Never have and never will. The cost is secondary to the results. We are members in excellent standing with the BBB. Give us a call for a free consultation. Established in 1988.

LisaJames Salon opened for business in 1988 with two employees. Lisa and James Mortenson. Both started their careers with the Dellaria Salon. After working with Dellaria and both becoming styling directors for the company they decided to open their own studio. Many clients, employees, and years of experience, make us a relaxed, drama free salon.

Simple as it seems, I love to cut and color hair. There is no greater satisfaction than when you exceed a clients expectations. I have been a hairstylist since 1982. I have been fortunate to be given the skills to succeed in this business. I live in Winchester MA. I have 3 daughters who are the love of my life. Dudes, get your butts over to Lisa James if you want to look good and feel great. The whole staff can do a great men’s cut, and if your wife is like mine, she will appreciate you looking good. Easy parking and early in the day appointments make this the place to get your haircut.

I was recently visiting family from out of town and needed a quick trim. After reading the reviews I figured I would give Lisa James a shot since it was in my family’s area. I was able to book an appointment that day and thought to myself how convenient! I soon found out the reason why it was so easy to book so quickly. My appointment was booked with a tall gray haired man. While cutting my hair he was gossiping about the neighboring businesses, clients and employees. Which I found extremely unprofessional. Halfway through the cut. he paused to answer his cell phone and was texting on and off the entire time. I left with a some what decent cut but it was not worth the amount of money I paid.
If I were a local I would definitely not be returning to this salon. It was a very bad first impression that left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Overpriced. Poor work. Have had more even cuts at a hair school. Arrogant owner. He feels the need to hurt those that have left his business a bad review. Buyer beware!

I just had Kathleen color my hair and she did a phenomenal job! She really knows what she is doing and is a very experience colorist with a lot of knowledge!
I got 25% off my first time, yet my only complaint is that it is only the pricier end. Still worth it if you want someone who knows exactly what they’re doing.
Would definitely recommend to anyone anxious about getting their hair colored

I went in to get a cut and color. Mind you I have only colored my hair once before and not very dramatically. I had the best experience with Kathleen. She was so precise, took her time, and had a lot of patience! I am so thrilled with my hair as she did a Balayage! I will be surely heading back there!

Now I have never been to this salon, but I do know one of the newer stylists working there. I own a salon in San Diego and am sad to tell you that my favorite stylist Kathleen Connolly has moved home to Boston. I miss her every day. But I am glad to tell you she is now working at the Lisa James Salon in Wellesley. She started out as a client, went to beauty school, became a stylist and then an excellent educator in just a quick 6 years. If you are looking for someone who is a very knowledgeable colorist she is the one for you. She continues her education on an ongoing basis and is very adept at creating colors and styles specifically designed for each new client she meets. I wish her great success with her new team in Boston, and if you go to see her please tell her Francie says hi and is still wishing you were there with her!!!

I have to admit, I have been there ONLY ONCE and that was a week before last thanksgiving, but I was incredibly happy with the results!
My hair is short and I am trying to grow it out. However, my hair had gotten out of control and it is just beyond tellable! I had to get it trimmed just a TAD, plus layers, without going too far. I specifically told my stylist that I would allow LESS than ½ inch of hair to be cut off.
She said that she needs to get the back of my head to match my sides, which happened to be very very short, so naturally I shook my head in disagreement. Eventually, we came to a middle ground and she did EXACTLY what I wanted her to do! I am still able to do a ponytail! It is still growing nicely.
The first two times are 25% off the prices. However, I must admit… The regular prices DO make me (and my bank accounts) wince, but if it means getting a stylist who will listen to what you want rather than «doing what is best for you,» I will pick that over a $ 35 haircut at Hair Cuttery or Super Cuts any day of the week! y

My initial rating on the Salon was 2 stars, but that was a bit unfair. The Salon was a 5, the stylist was a 1, so the average is a 3. The Salon has a great vibe, but I had a bad cut. Initially, I thought the cut was OK, though not 100% not what I asked for as it was a cut that required a lot of time blow drying it for it to not look like it had been hacked. My most honest critics, however, pointed out that it was uneven, and a chunk was missing from the back … something I couldn’t see on my own. In sum, I didn’t get what I asked for, I did get a bad cut, but it is a nice salon. Will I go back? I’d like to, because I really liked the salon, but I’ll be more selective in who I ask to cut my hair.

Looking for a hairstylist for months, I decided to call Lisa James. The reviews here lead me to call. Shannon was my hairstylist. She was very pleasant and took her time with my hair. The experience was great! Such a nice friendly staff. I think I found my new hair stylist!

I’ve been here a few times. I had 2 – 3 different stylist, I guess I’m not picky on who it is. But I dont think I ever had the owners. In any case, all the stylists that I experienced were cheerful, and accommodating, and I have always loved my hair coming out of there. They provided suggestions on easy ways I can maintain and care for my hair. One day, I wanted to try bangs, the stylist did a great job, and even offered to retouch my bangs whenever I needed it. I also tried coloring my hair, and they did a good job with that too.
The environment is pretty relaxing, modern, and welcoming I don’t get the uptight vibe I usually get when I go to Ardan, I guess I was expecting that since it’s wellesley. I think I found my salon!

I went in with a horrible haircut I got from another stylist (who will be properly reviewed) and was just hoping for the best from Unilocal.Yet again, you all did a great job here. I had Jessica, who understood exactly what I wanted and understood exactly why I hated the cut I had. She was just the right level of chatty for me (i.e., not too much) while expertly and efficiently giving me a stylish, easy-​care cut. I’m thrilled with my hair and that she showed me how to make it look good on an average day’s schedule.
The salon had a funky-​meets-​classy vibe. It wasn’t your standard uptight Wellesleyish salon, but it was clearly well-​cared for and kept extremely clean.
I should note that I got a 25% discount for being a first-​time customer, but I will certainly be back!

If you are in search of a stereotypical uptight Wellesley salon… keep looking because you won’t find it here! Everyone here from the receptionist to the owner is friendly and warm. I walked in to a cheerful greeting from all and walked out with a great haircut with beautiful shine and color. Jane spent a great deal of time on both the cut and blow out and I received 25% off because I was a new customer! The products this salon uses are wonderful and leave a really nice scent on your hair as well. I have been to MANY of the local salons and prefer this one to all the rest. I will definitely return.

I got a voice mail from the salon a few days ago letting me know that my regular stylist had quit. Rather than try to keep me as a client and offer to book me with another stylist they simply told me to, «not come in.» Huh?
I’m actually really surprised to see all the positive reviews here. With the exception of my stylist, who is no longer there, I never really got a good feeling from this place.
Needless to say, I won’t be returning.

3 stars because it was partly my fault, but I won’t be back. Disclaimer that this is a guy’s point of view.
I set my first appointment here and was 15 minutes late — 5 min were my fault, the remainder because I couldn’t find it. It’s not actually on Washington St, rather set deeply into a side street.
In any case, they said it was a 30 minute appointment (seems short) and so they couldn’t take me. I felt they should have said they were so tightly scheduled, particularly at the price. And $ 50 for a men’s haircut? More expensive than where I go on Newbury St.
Unhappy at having made the trip, I pulled up Unilocal on my phone and found a 5 star barbershop within walking distance, Grove Street, and got a great $ 15 haircut. So maybe I should have done this in the first place.
Strange that all the negative reviews are filtered out. 4.5 stars seems an overstatement given what some have said, in seemingly legitimate reviews.

I followed my stylist, Katie Marshman, to the Lisa James Salon. I was warmly welcomed by James, the owner, and thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The vibe is chill and relaxed. The other stylists all chatted with me and I felt like I’d been coming here for years ! The products are top shelf and the location is great. there’s even free parking !
Katie is the greatest stylist I’ve ever had. she knows what I want and need without my having to say a word ! Her vision is amazing and I’ve never been bummed about my hair since I met her ! She is top talent and a great addition to this obviously already great salon !
