The Smoke Ring

Everything you could ask for in a cigar shop! The humidor is extensive and filled with unique boutique brands as well as very popular brands, but what you won’t find are mass-​market names with low quality. They carry everything from good, inexpensive smokes to exquisite hard-​to-​find sticks. NOTE: most of us are reluctant to admit that we don’t know as much as we’d like about different brands. Be open and ask for help, as their staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and are easy to talk to. The sitting area is filled with leather chairs, marble tables and TVs as well as a coffee bar, espresso machine fridge and ice machine. Don’t be surprised if many of the customers greet the employees and each other by name, and feel free to introduce yourself and start a conversation, as the atmosphere is a bit like «Cheers» and is very relaxed. If you’re looking for pretentious, look elsewhere, because this place is very warm and relaxing.

The Greatest just got better. They moved 2 doors down and now have about 30 chairs and a great ventilation system. If there was one flaw before, it was that your clothes would reek with cigar as well as your hair. Now that is handled. The remodel is killer and they now offer flat screens everywhere. The humidor is 3 times as big. If you want to store in a humidified personal locker, those are available as well. The service is top notch and the knowledge is first class. This will not disappoint if you are into world class cigars.

Nice sized humidor with a good selection, including Davidoff, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Very reasonable prices, didn’t notice any price gouging at all on stuff I checked out.
They carry some of the higher end accessory brands, including Dupont, if you’re into those guys.
Nice side lounge with plenty of TV’s and nice chairs to sit in. Don’t need to be a member or anything, but at least buy a cigar from them before you try to plop down and smoke.
Couple things I noticed one of which I have a hard time figuring out… there are no prices on the cigars, so when you go out to pay, if they don’t have that one memorized, then they have to run into the humidor to get the price. Way inefficient, especially if there are several people in line. Now, as I found out later from someone, they usually asks/​expect people to grab note paper and write down the prices of their purchases. Okay… but first of all, this only works IF you tell your customers to do this, which no one did… and still, why are you asking the customer to do work for you? Nit picky maybe, but still, I’m spending money here, not getting paid, YOU need to be doing the work, not me. Get a price gun or a POS system already. I’ve never been any other place, anywhere, that did this. Kinda bizarre.
Other thing was, there’s nothing to drink for sale. It would be nice to have a reach in with some soda’s available. If you plan on sitting and smoking, hit up the C store before you come by, as there is nothing in their center to get anything to drink.

The shop is simply amazing, customer service is second to none, and the members are world class! Don’t pass this one by! Great owner and staff!!! The «regulars» are like family, always a good conversation or game of chess!!!

This place do not cater to woman. They don’t let you shop in peace without following you around. Also, smoke ring you have lost another customer. Can someone explain why you sell groovy blue cigars but, can’t smoke it in your cigar lounge? Don’t waste your time here go to the man cave, r& j, don Oscar, el Cuban. All these smoke lounges are more than happy to allow us to smoke groovy blues there.

First time in today have always wanted to stop but could just never find the time. Glad I stopped was greeted as soon I walked in. Service was great and took the time to answer all of my questions even when other customers arrived. I will be back if for no other reason than just to ask questions and get educated about their great selection.

Wonderful place! New to the area so I was looking for a place to get pipe tobacco and supplies. I was very impressed. Amazing selection of pipe tobaccos, cigars, pipes and accessories. Amazing walk in humidor and lounge area. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the staff very helpful.

I came down for my cousins retirement and wanted to buy him a gift. I explained to the employee at the counter my situation and added that my cousin is a aficionado.
Not only does smoke ring have a small selection of accessories but the service was the WORST that I’ve ever received in a cigar shop!
The young man disregarded the information about my cousin being an aficionado and proceeded to show me a pedestrian, beginners type selection of lighters. He was giving me the vibe that he didn’t really give a f$$$!
I ended up finding a classic Rocky Patel ashtray but too my surprise, they didn’t even have the box for the ashtray. The associate really showed me how much he cared when he gave me a shipping box full of styrofoam for the purchase!!! The box looked like it just came off the truck. You mean to tell me that with all the cigar boxes that come in that place the best alternative he had to offer me was that bs!
That was damn near disrespectful!!!
So disrespected that it drove me to find another place which was «man cave» and the service was night a day!!! Man cave is 100 times better than smoke ring!!! Better service, better selection and better pricing!!! I ended up finding the same ashtray for $ 20 cheaper and guess what… They had the original Rocky Patel box which is a nice thing to have when giving someone a gift!!! I took the other ash tray back for a refund and they didn’t even ask why I was returning it!!!
They just didn’t give a damn!!!

This place was spectacular! I have been to many smoke shops and cigar bars and this place blew them all away! The guy (sorry I forgot your name) he did a great job showing me and really teaching me what I was looking. He was very knowledgeable and I am very thankful for the experience he gave me at this shop. I will be back and I will tell my friends about this place for sure!

What else can i say about this place. besides how awesome it is. I have been frequenting this spot since before they expanded and only had a small seating area for patrons to enjoy a stick. I would normally walk in and go straight to the humidor where i was ALWAYS met with one of the attentive and knowledgeable staff (shoutout to Matt, Chris, Pat and Eric). They would help me with my selection, after getting a rundown of my particular tastes and preferences and so far, i haven’t been recommended a bad stick.
Fast forward to now.
Still the same great staff, still the same great service but the Humidor choices have just exploded with even more tasty treats! I love that they have expanded the seating and the air filtration system they installed makes it easier for the women-​folk that accompany me, to enjoy the atmosphere better (also helps my mild asthma lol). I have purchased many cigars, accessories and accumulated so much knowledge from this establishment and its staff. They remember me by name BUT i am always known at the «Social network guy» because i constantly post pictures of the storefront, humidor and my purchases on IG, Facebook, twitter etc. and tag them to it.
Again. i have never been disappointed when i come here. I used to work at NASA and now work in the oil and gas industry off of JFK and the beltway (bush IAH area). I have thought about moving but after stopping into another establishment by my job with a friend (it shall remain nameless) and not receiving the service, selection and overall atmosphere i get EVERY time at the smoke ring. well it makes me reconsider moving lol. Honestly, a few bars i frequent in the clear lake area and this place keep me commuting to work, so i can be close to the things that make me the happiest!

The employees were very helpful and patient. Nice people. I was buying presents for my dad, and despite not knowing anything about cigars, they didn’t patronize me in the slightest. Great experience.

FYI. I went in today to purchase/​smoke a Tatiana Groovy Blue Cigar which I have purchased & smoked there multiple times before & was told they no longer allow you to smoke them there because the scent is too strong. You got to be kidding me… You are a cigar shop! A cigar shop that sell the cigars but, you can’t smoke it there. SR you lost a customer. The Man Cave Cigar Lounge & R&J Cigars will get all my business.

Really just super-​impressed. Found this place here on Unilocal,and after reading so many positive reviews decided to surprise the boyfriend with a trip here sight-​unseen. He loves the occasional cigar but hadn’t had one in a long time.
The reviews were right — everyone working there is so friendly, and so incredibly knowledgable. I followed the BF and the super nice guy helping us around (I think his name was Matt??) and was amazed at not only how much he knew about all the cigars, but by the sheer number of cigar varieties out there. I had no idea. Fascinating stuff, hearing the stories behind a lot of them!
Armed with several new cigars to try, and me with a new pack of cloves and a lot of nostalgia, we made our way to the über-​comfortable seating area. Huge leather chairs, big TV’s, giant ashtrays (emptied often, just while we were there!) and delicious coffee in real mugs. As the BF said, the only thing that could have made it better was if it were BYOB. :-)
And I would like to say that I felt nothing but welcomed and comfortable there, even as a dreaded girl. ;-) It started out being just a hopefully-​cool place to surprise my boyfriend with, but ended up being someplace I’m looking forward to going back to!

I love this place, the staff know their products and are helpful. They suggest great choices of cigars based on you likes and dislikes. Their selection of smoking accessories (humadors, lighters, cutters, ect.) are very good too.

Great cigar shop, great selection and friendly staff! These guys keep great classic brands such as Davidoff, Avo, La Flor Dominicana, Zino, and Padron alond with the hot new stuff like Tatajue, Illusione and Viaje! The staff here is very knowledgeable, helpful and courteous and at your request help you select cigars yourself or the cigar smoker in your life.

My husband and I love the Smoke Ring and visit as often as we can. Sometimes it’s jsut a quick stop to grab a few cigars to take home and enjoy but most of the time we sit, relax and enjoy atleast one while there. Everyone, including the customers, have always been very friendly with me (I’m usually the only woman there amongst 6 – 10 men), so I’m not sure why Cora (previous reviewer) felt like she was unwelcome.
Hubby sometimes stops on his way home from work to smoke a cigar and relax a bit or we will visit together on date night before or after we go to dinner. Great selection, relaxed atmosphere, nice folks. What else could you ask for?

OUTSTANDING!!! The Smoke Ring is a staple for me… without a doubt they have the best selection of Padrons in Texas (26’s and 64’s). A great place to kick back and smoke a stick… If you are new to cigars this is the place to go. Matt, Robin and Chris will work with you and make sure they find the stick that fits you. A fav for me is the La Flor De Maria Mancini.
FYI, Cory just does not get it… the guys there welcome ladies in the store, they were just involved in the game. As far as some of us wearing suits, it is a job requirement for some, this generally comes with an education.

The Smoke Ring has quite simply the best selection of cigars in the region. Specifically, they have the largest selection of Padron cigars (my favorite brand) in Texas. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, the prices aren’t bad, and there is a real community vibe to the place (particularly if you’re a large, bearded man).
This shop is a definite must-​visit for any cigar enthusiast in the bay area!

After recently buying a humidor, we felt the need to fill its empty stomach with some yummy cigars and we were recommended The Smoke Ring.
The cigar selection was phenomenal. Walls of cigars (and I heard that they boast the largest collection of Ashtons in Texas) everywhere that you can buy singly or by the box. They even have a 10% discount on non-​specialty boxes that are over $ 60 – not a bad deal.
They had some nice humidors also, thought their lighter collection was a bit disappointing. They also had pipes, cases, loose tobacco, marble ash trays, and I’m sure much more that I skipped over. Now, why would I skip over the fun toys that come with such a nasty habit? Here’s why.
Evidently Sunday football means that no women are allowed in the shop. The look of disbelief as I walked in was noticeable and the mood change was perceptible. The men were all sitting around in plush leather couches, smoking and watching the game – pausing only to either A) check me out or B) glare at me for upsetting their boy time pow-​wow.
The laughable part of it all was how they tried so very hard to make it more than it was – and what it was was a bunch of grown men watching football. And yet, there were multiple men in there, wearing suits that cost as much as some cars with so much hair product that I thought it would be a fire hazard with all the smoking going on.
The collection itself would’ve warranted a 5 star review, but the pretentious jerks sitting around made me dock off two whole stars. It is ridiculous to be so concerned with putting on airs that you ruin the atmosphere of a potentially great place. (Though, I did feel quite smug walking out of there with two boxes of cigars when they looked on incredulously as we walked out.)
Conclusion? I’ll go back, but not on a football day. If I have another terrible experience at this store, I may make the drive out to Sugarland to see if their branch is any better.
