Karpen Steel was started by Morris I Karpen and is now run by his daughter Rachel S. Smith along with her business partner Eric Henken. Karpen Steel was the first custom hollow metal manufacturer to specialize in shipping product in 10-​working days or less.

Business Owner

Rachel Smith is the daughter of company founder Morris I Karpen. She joined the company in 1987. Rachel has master’s degrees in Civil Engineering and Business Administration. Rachel has been very involved in the Door and Hardware Institute including being an instructor, writing numerous articles for Door and Hardware Magazine, and being involved in various committees.
