Suddath Relocation Systems

Sarah Jones and Gavin Parker at Suddath were excellent in helping arrange my move cross country. Really happy with how available they were and ready to answer all my questions.

Let me start by saying, Sarah Jones (5-​STARS), is an exceptional Move Coordinator. Suddath is fortunate to have her on their team. For the particular set of problems with my move, Sarah is the only person saving Suddath’s reputation. She’s professional, very responsive, knowledgeable and a delight to work with. Sarah is as good as it gets! :)
My move from Jersey to Texas was a challenge from the start (last week in Sep2015). I found out days before my move was to take place, that my move had not been entered into the United Van-​lines system. That’s when Sarah came to the rescue. She was able to get my move back on track and I was able to leave Jersey as planned.
Sarah was very thorough and diligent with following up to ensure everything stayed on track. She kept me up to date on the day my goods would arrive in Texas.
However, despite Sarah’s best efforts, the movers themselves did not do so well. The least offensive thing is the 2 items that were damaged. The most offensive thing is that the movers lost what they call the «PARTS BOX». My PARTS BOX!
This PARTS BOX contains all the hardware they remove to disassemble my furniture and need to reassemble my furniture; like my bistro table (can’t attached table top), dresser (no pulls), consoles (no legs, no pulls), sectional (no legs), large floor fan (no base attachment), etc.
So, when my things arrived, I had several items that could not be reassembled, because the parts needed were in the PARTS BOX the movers had lost.
Sarah went above and beyond all she could. She reached out to the movers, the drivers and had the warehouse checked, in an attempt to locate my PARTS BOX. The box has never been found.
She guided me through the claim process. She even followed up on that, to ensure, that I was taken care of. Where replacement parts could be found, I had to order them (to be reimbursed) and then the «restoration professionals» (Weathersby Guild Houston) would come out to reassemble the furniture.
The short of the story is this; instead of the «furniture restoration professionals» making a proper assessment of what was needed to replace the legs on my sectional, they sent someone out to simply take pictures of the items in question and then sent me a link to a website and told me to pick out the legs myself. Weathersby provided no consultation/​guidance what-​so-​ever about how to choose. I am not a «furniture restoration Subject Matter Expert or even a novice.
The Weathersby representative that was to reassemble my sectional with the replacement legs discovered and informed me that the replacement legs and the metal plate to attach them, would need significant modifications to make them work for my sectional and also, that the center support required a different kind of leg than what i order. How would I know that?!
This is not the appropriate solution to restore my Natuzzi sectional. This is due to the design of the sectionals frame. The placement of the original holes, where the original legs would attach, would require that additional holes to be made in the frame to attached (to rig) the plates needed to attach the replacement legs.
Additionally, in the center of the sectional halves, there is, for lack of a better term, a «support beam», that requires an additional type of attachment and leg, because the replacement legs I purchased are not appropriate in this area. Again, how would I know that?!
In total, these efforts compromise the structure and stability of my Natuzzi Leather sectional. This sectional will have to be replaced.
It is now Friday, 18 Dec 2015. My sectional is still on the floor with no legs. An appropriate solution has not been provided. My claim is still open and my reimbursement for items broken is still pending.

On 13 Jan 2016: I was provided with a picture of another set of legs. It seems these legs were selected based only on screws that MAY fit my sectional but again will require some modification. This selection is structurally and esthetically the wrong solution to replace the legs. No one from Weathersby Guild Houston (furniture restoration company), has come out to make a proper assessment of the sectional. [Weathersby Guild Houston’s review is pending!]
There has been no additional effort made, that I am aware of, by Suddath or Weathersby Guild Houston to resolve this matter.
Subsequently, I have submitted my purchase receipts for the parts replaced and the original receipt for the sectional. I have asked that my claim be processed for damages, for reimbursement and to close out the claim.

My boyfriend and I moved to New York from Texas, and right from the start Sarah Jones and Suddath were great. They helped to pack our fragile belongings at point of pickup. When our apartment took longer than expected to approve our application, they were able to hold our belongings until we were able to receive them. When they delivered our belongings, they were timely and provided much advance notice. The crew was friendly, professional, and efficient (in and out in 2 hours). Through the whole process, Sarah was very pleasant, friendly, and willing to work with our situation. I would definitely recommend them as a moving service.

Sarah Jones makes a difficult process bearable through her diligence, upbeat attitude, and follow through. She is very reliable.

The customer service is A+++. My coordinator Sarah Jones is just the best! She really cares about you and does everything to make sure you are well taken care of. They kept all of their deadlines from being on time to making sure delivery was prompt. Sarah always checked and double checked to make sure everything was going well. My high rating was based on the excellent customer service given by Sarah. She is a definite asset to the company. It’s really rare to find hardworking and dedicated employees who really stand out.
The reason for one less star is that they did refuse to pay for the damaged computer which was clearly damaged from the move. But on the positive side they did pay for most of other damages.

Can’t say enough good things about working with Suddath. Steve, Lisa, George, Fausto, Sergio, Carlos, Johnny took incredible care of us through every step of the process. They were professional on every level. We moved from Saddle River, NJ to Vacaville, CA during the winter which can be very stressful and overwhelming. They have an incredible inventory system, and kept us aprised all along the way.

After I had my closing, I went to my home. The movers were there. They were very professional, courteous, patient and caring for all my furniture and belongings. I had a problem with the new owner causing problems for all of us. She came into the home screaming to get out as it was her house. I am a senior, with health issues but I tried to speak with her to no avail. She was giving the movers a hard time as well but they still were professional on all levels. After she left, they finished the move and was to meet with me at the new residence. I told them I would in half an hour but then she came back after they left with the entire family. I had to call the police to explain to them that I wanted to clear out and clean the place. By that time it was too late to meet with the movers. I contacted Lisa who was very helpful to me during this time. She stated they do not work overtime past 6pm so I had to get my furniture on Saturday. On Saturday they returned and completed the move within two hours. Again they were respectful, professional and patient with everything and the furniture and belongings were not broken or gone.
I have read many of the reviews but I cannot understand why they had so many complaints. My daughter had moved from NJ to Florida last year. I was witness to her move from United Van lines. No complaints and that is why I again chose United. I would do it again. Lisa, Steve and the movers were very kind and helpful to me. Yeah! I am happy with this company.

management rectified issues

I spoke with dispatch after all my items were broken. Joe and Tim were not interested, they were too busy to deal with my problems. Items were missing and broken. Thisvseems to be a coomon problem with this agent. They never returned my calls or emails.
Please protect yourself!

I coordinated two moves with Suddath Wayne NJ. One move was a local NJ move and the other move was across the country Both moves took place the same week. I have never had a good experience moving until now! Lisa and Steven were wonderful to work with and made it so much less stressful to move. Everything was picked up and delivered as promised by friendly, capable people. There was no damage. Lisa at the office kept me very informed and went out of her way to help me get my move done on the dates I needed. There were no surprises either — price was set and locked.

These people suck. If you have a choice in spending your money, do it elsewhere. Hire that «guy with a van» you see flyers for on corners, or the 12 year old down the street. The 12 year old will probably do a better job ferrying your belongings back and forth one by one on his bike.
My husband and I did NOT have a choice in movers. He is active duty military and Suddath was the company who got the contract to move our stuff from an assignment in NYC to our next assignment in Wisconsin.
1^st off — they had planned to pack our belongings on a Thursday and Friday, then load the truck with the boxes and furniture on the following Monday. Well, they called us Wednesday night, and told us it would all be done the following day. We were completely unprepared to be without all of our stuff so soon. We had planned to use the opportunity to have everything in boxes and clean our furniture real well (wipe the shelves, mega vacuum the couch, etc). Luckily, the fridge we were using was our landlords, and wasn’t coming with us so we didn’t have to defrost it for transport. If we had been taking it with us, it would not have been defrosted in time for being put on the truck, cause they always want it to be off over 24 hours prior, and they let us know so late in the day on Wednesday (seriously, like 7pm)
Anyway, they filled the truck with our stuff a whole 5 days early, and we couldn’t do anything about it. When in the military at transfer time, if you cannot be ready when your moving company is ready to load or unload, you could be looking at possibly a week to 10 days before you could reschedule. We accept that. So we rolled with the early pickup. Inconvenient, but hey… they picked up 5 days early, right? We weren’t leaving NYC until middle of the following week, so once we got to our destination, we should pretty much meet our stuff there, right? It’s got a 5 day headstart on us, right?
Wrong.
It has now been 28 days since they picked up our belongings. Our belongings are now 16 DAYS OVERDUE. Today is 6/​15, they were scheduled for delivery on ⁵⁄₃₀.
That’s right. We don’t have our stuff. In fact — IT’S STILL IN NEW JERSEY, in their storage /​warehouse /​employee free for all stealing showroom?
Our rep at suddath — our calls to her go to vm. Maybe we are called back, maybe not. If we are — it’s not that day. If not, we maybe will get an email from her. Maybe not.
If we get a reply, it’s «we’re looking for a driver». Looking for a driver? Isn’t that WHAT YOU DO? Aren’t you a MOVING COMPANY? Do not moving companies have trucks and people who drive them? What are they doing? Standing on a corner in Brooklyn with a sign saying «now hiring for some guy to drive a bunch of s#!t to Wisconsin»? Are they forging the steel frame of the truck by hand and hammer, using a secret technique handed down by a magician who blesses all the alloys in the truck with «We don’t care a damn about you, cause you’re not the one paying us» dust?
They tell us that they will reimburse us for meals and/​or a hotel, as long as we provide itemized receipts. Well, we were sent to small towns-​ville, and half the places to eat here don’t even provide receipts, let alone itemized ones. And why should I have to get a hotel? I have a place to live, I just don’t have any of my belongings. If we HAD gotten a hotel, already we would be at over $ 1000 hotel bill. And once we submit our receipts? What will we hear then? «We’re looking for a check»?
Way to Support the Troops, Suddath. I sure am glad that my loved one and millions of other loved ones are placing themselves in harms way so you can safely sit on your butt and not give a crap about us.

Do not ever come close to this company.

I wrote this review on another one of their locations. I am also including it here because I dealt with both and everyone should know…
Spare yourself the heartache, this place consistently has 1 star for a reason.
We had some valuable items (including a computer and Wii) never make it, though I am sure they found a good home in one of their employee’s homes. Especially the set of my wife’s underwear that disappeared.
In addition, we had destroyed and damaged items upon our delivery. The packers took their sweet old time packing and even unpacking the stuff we had already packed up. I understand they have to inventory everything, but c’mon, we washed all our fabrics and clothes and put them in clear vacuum seal bags where they could easily be counted. Besides, you don’t need to count everything when your just gonna steal some of it anyway. On the plus side we did get to wash all our clothes, blankets, sheets, towels, and other fabrics twice!
The icing on the cake was when they denied my claim! They denied it even though I had acknowledgement in writing from them that they picked up the items and they weren’t delivered!
I could go into more detail, but I honestly don’t want to devote anymore of my life to this awful experience. Do yourself a favor and go with a reputable company.

I’ll start by saying that I didn’t move FROM New York with Suddath. I used an agent in Kansas City that I LOVED. Suddath was, however, the agent that delivered my items once they got to the city.
They were about a half hour late and showed up with unlit cigarettes hanging out of their mouths (classy.) One of the movers asked me how much I paid in rent for my apartment (again, classy.) My stuff did eventually end up safely in my apartment, but it certainly took longer than it needed to.
Again, I had a great experience with the United Van Lines agent in Kansas City, but I’d be willing to bet that there are better movers here in New York than these guys.

My family relocated from Boston, MA to Santa Clara, CA at the end of June 2011 due to work. It’s a corporate move which uses United Van Line with which Suddath was affiliated; so they handled the moving process. We did our own packing before the movers came for pickup in small, medium, and large boxes and we gave them in an organized manner. Suddath used a local vender Humbolt to handle the pickup whose crew was very professional and organized. Well, we were very happy with our experience at the origin.
But at the destination in CA, the delivery was a total nightmare! I don’t know how they stored or handled our boxes but they all came back falling apart. I moved cross country once two years ago prior to this move and the boxes endured fairly nicely. But this time was drastically different. Some of the new boxes I bought all came in torn or broken, totally unusable after this one move. They told me they would take down all the furniture (bed, couches, desks, TV, etc) at the origin and put them back up at the destination. But at the destination, the movers failed to do. After I insisted they should assemble the items, they put together our bed and couches in a sloppy way, still left the TV without the base, and desks unassembled (I later reported this and Suddath wanted to charge me to send people again to do them so I said forget I would just do it myself). Some furniture (end table, coffee table, leather chair, etc) were badly scratches, bookcase totally broken, decoration tree broken, a large bowl broken, etc.
The worst part is this: they lost 10 of my boxes out of about 140, including an Epson printer, school electronics, basketballs, home decors, dishes, hand vacuum etc! Some boxes are the large ones. During the delivery, I sensed some boxes were missing because for one I didn’t see my printer which was packed in its original box. So I refused to sign the paperwork to acknowledge I’d received all my belongings. The movers were mad and they kept telling me they had to rush to their next appointment. In the end, the head mover rudely grabbed the papers from my hand and walked away. I later filed claim but the claim agent used that fact against me saying that because I didn’t sign the paperwork, they won’t be able to compensate me for the lost boxes. I said I didn’t want to be compensated just find these boxes but she said they couldn’t do that either. So If I were an individual consumer, I would never get my boxes back or get compensated for them.
I was seriously upset after the incident and wrote a complaint letter to the VPs of the company I was joining since it’s a corporate move. They worked with a VP Brian at Suddath and got the issue resolved after 3 months and I was paid about a few thousands for all the repairs and the lost boxes. Since then a couple of years have passed, every time I thought about the experience I felt hurt and angry. Although I got compensated, I often thought about the lost items I bought from overseas and my grad school works which were hard to put a price on. All I asked after all was to bring these lost boxes back to us but they said they did the trace but couldn’t find them. They were so right, all 10 boxes just magically evaporated from the earth. Word of wisdom grown from my experience with this company for other consumers: STAY AWAY FROM SUDDATH!

I was sold by the very professional salesperson on Suddath’s high quality moving services (including full packing and unpacking) for our move from NY to CA, unfortunately the salesperson was the only professional part of the moving process. The packers showed up late, took more smoke breaks than I could count and didn’t finish. This lead to a rushed job on the second day where things were poorly packed, they ran out of proper packing materials and as a result many items were damaged. The worst part was they forgot to bring the additional supplies necessary both days, not just on the first day. Yes, most homes have beds, so mattress boxes are generally required. Having forgotten the mattress boxes, they used furniture pads to wrap the beds. Then as a result they ran out of furniture pads for (yes you guessed it), the furniture. They also simply lost at least 4 major items for days, that were then found in someone else’s shipment. The customer service process has been a nightmare, no one at this company cares or wants to make things right. As a result, I would recommend you avoid Suddath Relocation Services!
