I’m relatively new in town, and this barbershop was closest to my house. I’d been there a few times and it was ok, but my last visit was uncomfortable to say the least. I went during my lunch break and there were multiple people there. One asked if I minded if he smoked. Being diplomatic, I explained that my boss probably wouldn’t like it if I came back smelling like cigarettes. The patron was totally ok with this and left, but the guy cutting my hair who I believe also owns the place said my boss must be a woman. Confused, I told him, no, my boss happened to be male. He replied that he «must not be much of a fucking man then.» The casual sexism was already uncomfortable, but this guy decided to follow it up with a long rant about how masculinity was dead because now gay people could get married and how he liked it better when homosexuals were considered «sick puppies.» Needless to say, I didn’t tip.
I’d like to say that this casual and offensive sexism and homophobia were countered by an excellent haircut, but I can’t, really. One of my friends once mentioned that my hair didn’t look quite right after I came back from this place. (Then again, she’s a woman, so I guess the proprietor would argue she doesn’t know anything anyway.) It’s just an average haircut place, costs twenty bucks, and only takes cash. I’d be willing to give it two stars if the owner realized it wasn’t 1950 anymore, but even then, it’s a pretty mediocre place.
I’m not what you would call fashion conscious. I generally don’t even think about my hair. I’m a pretty easy guy to please when it comes to haircuts: do a decent job and don’t be an asshole. If a haircut place can’t even do that, why should it deserve better than one star?

George, the owner/​operator of Pintos, is (at least) a second-​generation hair cutter. I’ve been coming here for haircuts and to browse his masculine magazine selection for a couple of years and have no complaints. He leaves quarters out for the meters which is nice. 20 bucks with the tip is a good deal IMO.
