Traditional British Scones, Afternoon Tea, Sausage Rolls & Pasties, Premium Loose Leaf Teas, Imported British Groceries & Sweets

History

Established in 1991.

In 1991, Marie Hope, who hails from England, originally opened A Taste of Britain on Lancaster Avenue in Devon, about a mile away from our current location.

Marie eventually moved the business into a larger space on Berkely Avenue. Over time, she sold the business to Tara, who expanded into our current location in the beautiful Eagle Village Shops in October 2009.

In 2012, Debbie Heth bought A Taste of Britain, and is proud to be running it today.

Over time, our menu has expanded from tea and scones (although our Full Afternoon Tea is still our specialty!), and we now serve lovely salads, popular homemade soups (fresh pea with mint is a customer favorite), wonderful sandwiches, and English specialties. We still use Marie’s traditional English recipes for our scones, pasties (Cornish and Cheese & Onion), sausage rolls, and shepherd’s pies.

We are proud of our history and excited about our future. We hope you will be a part of it!

Meet the Business Owner

Debbie H.

Business Owner

Debbie took over A Taste of Britain in 2012, and is thrilled to be a part of a restaurant with such an amazing staff and customers.

Debbie grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania (Carbondale, PA). She came to the Philadelphia area to attend Villanova University, where she earned not only her BS in Accounting but also her MBA. She started her career in public accounting, earning her CPA license at an early age. Debbie also attended The Restaurant School in Philadelphia for Hotel/Restaurant Management.

She worked for Susanna Foo and ARAMARK, before taking the plunge to own her own business.

You’ll find Debbie at the shop almost every day. Stop in and say hello!
