Donna D.

Manager

Donna (general manager of The Redwoods In Yosemite, since July 2010) has over 18 years of hospitality management experience including accounting, human resources, food & beverage, sales & marketing and operations.

She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Yosemite Mariposa County Tourism Bureau, the Madera County Economic Development Commission, and the Oakhurst Chamber of Commerce. Donna chairs the Oakhurst Chamber Economic Development Committee and sits on the Eastern Madera County Chamber Alliance Committee.

Donna became a certified trainer in 2003 for the California Hotel & Lodging Association (approved by the California State Employment Training Panel) and has trained over 300 employees in hospitality and management.

She enjoys hiking, biking, boot camp, 10K runs, boating, paddle boarding, downhill and cross country skiing and her 5 grandchildren. She has written several articles for local news publications and hopes to write children’s books in the future.

This is our 7th or 8th stay here on this property. This has been the worst. We stayed in cabin 9S. The furniture is way beyond old and used. The sofa is so dirty and abuse, the microwave is from the 70’s, dinning room table finish was coming off when we had a moist napkin on it for a few minutes.
The bathroom was dirty, base boards have not been cleaned for years, bath tube had rust stains and mildews on the grouts. The shower head is 4 feet high.

I just had my wedding at the Rewoods in Yosemite and it was wonderful! We had the ceremony at cabin 33A and the reception at their newly opened event center. It was perfect for our small wedding of 35 people. The staff was so friendly, helpful, and easy to reach. The cabin itself was beautiful, clean and cozy. I loved the fireplace in both the living room and master bedroom. There was even a little shed stalked with firewood on the property. No cell service (unless you have Verizon) but very strong wifi. Short drive to the Tenya Lodge where we had our rehearsal dinner. Was really sad to leave and cant wait to return!

Our Friend from San Jose booked Eagles Nest (10B).
Total for 2 nights was $ 1363. It is very affordable when split with several families.
We had no idea what to expect as we had never stayed at a cabin during any of our past trips. We were delayed reaching the Cabin due to mudslides shutting I-​5 down. Our normal 5 Hour journey to Yosemite was 9 ½ Hour with several detours etc. By the time we arrived at Oakhurst, there were dark clouds looming at the horizon with an occasional bolt of lighting accompanied by rumbling Thunder. We almost gave up and were contemplating returning back to LA several times during the drive. We persevered, reached the Cabin, set our foot indoors and were completely blown away by the luxury afforded by this cabin. We stayed here Friday night and Saturday night the past weekend.
Pros:
The cabin is very spacious. It comfortably accommodated all the adults and kids.
— 2 Bedrooms, Two Half Baths interconnected by a Bath, Large Living area with Fireplace, Entertainment Center, Sofa, Loveseat and chair, Full Kitchen, Dining area with a Table, wooden bench, several chairs on the 2nd floor.
— 1 Bedroom with queen and a bunk bed, a second Bedroom (Dorm style) with 1 queen and 3 twins, Full Kitchen with a fridge, sink and bar seating, Full Bathroom, Ping Pong Table, Poker Table with 4 chairs, Loveseat, Entertainment Center and a Fireplace and Laundry room on the lower floor (Ground level with parking)
— Each bedroom has its own closet. Patio/​Deck on the 2nd level is huge and has entry either from the Kitchen, or through the huge glass double door setting from the living area /​dining area. Parking area can fit upto 5 sedans or 4 SUV’s.
Kitchen is stocked with every glass, utensil, tool you could imagine. 2 Microwaves were provided to speed up the cooking process. Electric range in the upstairs kitchen makes cleanup easy.
Many board games to keep the young ones as well as adults occupied.
Ping pong table! (+1)
TV’s in multiple rooms. Dish is the satellite provider.
Wireless internet has good strength. *NOTE* Internet was not working Sunday morning for some reason. Only Verizon had cell phone reception.
Very short hike to the waterfalls.
Cons:
Check out time of 10 AM. There was not have enough time to tidy up the place after feeding the young ones and packing. We felt really bad for not organizing the bed etc. before we left :-(
Overall, I would say that this Cabin was top notch and merits a Five star rating. We will definitely check out other cabins at RIY if we venture into Yosemite in the future. All we need to pack are toiletries, Kitchen cleaning supplies and Trash disposal setup. We know that RIY has everything else covered!

Great Venue for Wedding Festivities!
Our daughter was recently married in Yosemite and most of the nearly 100 guests flew in from across the country. She and her fiancé opted to encourage them to rent cabins at The Redwoods instead of the more traditional lodging in the Valley. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of the wedding. The guests absolutely LOVED their cabins and the relaxed «summer camp» experience of the woods. It was easy for people to visit each other, take short walks, throw together an evening BBQ and just catch up with each other.
Instead of the traditional rehearsal dinner the night before, all the guests were invited to a casual Welcome BBQ at The Redwoods’ new event center with its large outdoor deck. That was a perfect start to the wedding weekend and it was easy for everyone to just walk to. The Redwoods staff went out of their way to help set it all up and to get a big fire going in the massive stone fireplace when the night turned suddenly chilly.
We found the staff of The Redwoods (especially Janine) to be very helpful and accommodating. They’re anxious to provide a wonderful experience for their guests and truly got into the wedding spirit with us. It’s a great place to consider for your wedding plans!

We stayed In cabin 3 B. The location was great. The house was clean but the bedrooms were very dusty and had a musty odor. Some of the closets were filed with junk materials .the linens were dusty and it triggered an Asthma attack for two of us during our three days stay. The unit was definitely not clean in the bedrooms and iving room. In bathrooms we did not have any shamppo. We shopeed for it in the Wawona store. Summary, great location, large unit, quiet surroindings but not clean.

I’ve probably stayed at the Redwoods in Yosemite at least 10 times over the years, if not more. We go to Yosemite every year and we almost always stay in The Redwoods. I love it there because we can go with a small or large group and there is always a home there to fit our needs. I love scrolling through the cabins and looking at the photos before we decide which one to stay in. A few years ago my extended family came up with us and we rented 3 cabins to fit everyone. We have stayed in cabins with jacuzzis, pool tables, amazing kitchens. I highly recommend staying here. It is so nice having our own kitchen so we can cook meals instead of eating out every day. The only downside is the long drive into the valley (which is really only bad in snow) but there are great hiking trails nearby, and the Wawona is close for a nice restaurant, so it definitely doesn’t stop us from staying there.

Rolling Hills Estates, CA
This was a very exciting trip for us. Our good friends of 4 families joined for this trip. We kind booked in last minute so little worried about it. We arrived at night around 11pm. Our cabin was located little bit inside, but didn’t take much time to find it. We reserved 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. Our cabin was very spacious, clean and well maintained.
Also, outside patio was well
Organized and well shaded by tree. We set a big tent for kids to play. There were BBQ place and dinner table, too.
This place was 40 minutes away from curry village rafting place and El Capitan hiking. We all enjoyed staying here and all activities in here. This place is family friendly and close to Yosemite. I will definitely recommend here to my friends.

If you’re looking for great accommodations inside Yosemite, the redwoods in Yosemite can’t be beat. Renting fully furnished private homes is a great way to stay. Put a pot roast in the oven before a day of exploring and you’ll have a great dinner when you return!

We stayed here on a trip to Yosemite with my boyfriend’s parents and it was absolutely perfect for our needs. We each had our own bedroom and the kitchen made it really easy to cook at home several nights. The living area gave us a nice common space to share.
The cabins are a bit of a hike from most sites so you’ll definitely have to drive to the valley or anyplace else you want to go but it’s a pretty drive and it’s worth it to have a cabin all to yourself at night.

Absolutely gorgeous, We stayed in cabin #55 which is at the end of the lane so no traffic. Just a stone throw away from the creek and it came fully contained. All we needed was food! Took the swinging bridge hike and it was fantastic and not congested. Mariposa Grove and Yosemite valley the next day! Living in SF i couldn’t have asked for a more quiet, beautiful place to relax and enjoy the scenery. My compliments to the Redwoods staff and cabin owners.

This place was simply amazing. We had cabin 1 and it was the perfect cabin. Woke up hearing the flow of the stream, beautiful/​breath taking views everywhere, and relatively close to the Yosemite Village.
I wished I could have stayed for a full week…

We stayed in cabin 99! It’s a huge cabin that sleeps like 18 people! It was clean and and the sheets were also very clean! I don’t like how we had to empty out the trash to the community trash, it’s a pain. But overall it was great!

The cabin seemed great at first, but in the evening of the second night of our 3 night stay the power went out. This meant we had no heat at all and temperatures outside were well below freezing. We received no answer on the emergency maintenance line and no answer when we first called the front desk the next morning during office hours. This is clearly something that happens often as lanterns were provided in the cabin. This is unacceptable during this time of year. All cabins need to have generators or at least something offered to help guests in these circumstances. We had a 7 month old baby with us and could not stay with no heat.
We had to leave a day early as power was not expected back on for almost 24 hours and we got no refund or offer of any help. This completely ruined our vacation and I would never stay here again.
NOTE — it seems this might be an ok place to stay in the summer, but steer clear in the winter!
EDITED — I was contacted by the Redwoods and they offered a refund for the last night given we had to leave early. This definitely helped the situation. If you decide to stay here in the winter, try to only go with a cabin with a generator.

We had exactly the wedding we hoped for with the help of Redwoods in Yosemite. They were very flexible and generous in providing us with beautiful cabins for our stay and reception. We were able to create a destination wedding with a private & cozy backyard feel. We really wanted to be able to spend our budget on providing accommodations to our friends and family and to select our own caterer, which we couldn’t have done with one of the hotels. My husband booked this place a while back while we were planning to come to Yosemite for a friends wedding. Their wedding venue was actually at the Ahwahnee Hotel so we were trying to find a cabin as close to Yosemite Valley as possible. I’m pretty sure we didn’t book directly with Redwoods but through a different company whose headquarters are actually much closer to Curry Village. It wasn’t until we booked and paid did they reveal that the location was further than we’d expected.
We stayed at unit 47R which was a 3 bedroom 2 bath home. It had a generous deck and great escape routes in case of fire (I think almost every room had an exit to the deck). The décor was dated but overall it was a comfortable rustic little cabin in the middle of the woods.
Main takeway is that while these come equipped with a full kitchen — you definitely want to bring all your stuff from home — condiments, decent knives, aluminum foil, extra trash /​recycling bags etc.
But if there is one thing to pack — citronella candles! Those buggers are hungry.

We came out here for vacation decided this was the only place with a decent Unilocal review… it did not disappoint the drive in was a bit unique it’s a long driveway with some old run down looking buildings once you past that you’ll see a little school and then market then it’s your check in office. I walked in and the staff was great all were very nice and all dressed in uniforms they all smiled and said hello they also got a cool little gift shop with free popcorn. I love anything free:))
We checked in drove back to cabin 14 it’s was perfect small and cozy with everything you need … One thing that always sucks about camping are the showers this place had really hot water and it was a good size I’m 6,2 and I never fit .the shower head is always really low but not this place it was perfect height and strong water pressure .
He had free fire wood and a fire starter kit .
The cabin was clean along with the area I’ll be back again to revisit
It’s well worth the money spent.

I bought the living social escape to the Redwoods in Yosemite and my not so great review relates to that and their customer service.
I got a job out of town and couldn’t book the trip by the time the deal would expire. I called to see if they would give me even a week’s extension and they said no and weren’t very helpful on the phone. When they expire, Living Socials and Groupons become a payment voucher for the amount paid and not the deal — the same as cash. However, when we booked our trip a few weeks after the deal expired for the paid amount, there was a special going on — 3 nights for the price of 2. While my boyfriend asked about it at the time of booking they did not offer this to him and I only found out about it staying there.
After we got back to LA I wrote to them asking for the accurate price and a reimbursement of the extra $ 125 or so we paid over someone who walked in off the street. They absolutely refused to give us the same deal insisting inaccurately that we couldn’t have 2 deals (which we didn’t since ours expired and only became cash), and it was really insulting and odd to us considering the idea of groupon and living social is to introduce new customers to a business.
The cabin was great, we loved it. There were a lot of odd rules like «don’t leave the tip for the cleaning person in the cabin and leave it in the office instead» but other than that it was fine. But to rip off a living social customer who often can’t afford full price vacations is just not okay with me as a business, so my main advice would be never take a coupon with these people as they won’t honor it. Living Social was shocked too, but they said there was nothing they could do other than not do another deal with them and put it in their notes.
So there you have it. Depends how much good business is to you. We did an air b and b next trip and liked it a lot more and got a lot more value. It was also a lot more personal and friendly. It’s just a sad situation cause we loved the cabin, they just left a bad taste in our mouth and didn’t seem to care about anything other than money.

Cabins are graded as Sub Bronze, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. We were staying in cabin 7C, a sub bronze category, perfect for a couple. If you have more members in your family, I recommend 5C or 6C. Also, cabin 7C has no fireplace but there is a policy not to burn woods in Summer so it really doesn’t matter if there is a fireplace or not.
7C is perfect for a couple since the cabin is small. The cabin is not fancy like a hotel but it is comfortable and cozy. I think we saved a lot of money by not eating out in the park. I basically brought our own cooked food and just heated up in the kitchen. The food in the park is very expensive and not good. My cooking is better than what is served in the park. The kitchen in this cabin is complete (including a waffle maker). There is no dishwasher but since I don’t heavy cooking, it doesn’t matter.
We spent a lot of time on the deck which is AMAZING. This cabin is secluded and the view is the woods and Wawona dome. Also we could hear a faint river sound. I bet the river was full in Spring time and would have been wonderful. The first night there, a pregnant deer visited us by the deck and was eating the greens all around the deck. She didn’t mind us and we were just watching it quietly. It was awesome.
During the day we went into the Yosemite park, Fish Camp, and Bass Lake with our packed lunch. At night we spent a lot of time on the deck. We used the BBQ once.
I called this experience a glorified camping since we were able to enjoy eating outside on the deck, the woods, and outdoor view (including wild animals). However, we slept in firm and nice bed, used a clean kitchen and bathroom with hot water and flush toilet.
The only thing that the place is lacking is a closet for clothes. We used the other room as a closet by putting our stuff on the other bed. Although it is considered 1 bedroom cabin, this place has another bedroom. The bedrooms are small and there is a small bathroom in between them. I think it will be perfect for a couple with a small child.
The other thing is that the satellite TV was not working well. We reported to the office and they claimed that DISH network is having problem with their satellite at that time we were there. So it is so unfortunate for us.
The place also has a DVD player but we didn’t bring any movie with us. Our trip was to get away from home so we didn’t mind not having access to TV and internet.
However, there is a land line where local, within US, and International calls are free.
Although it is expensive, if I compare the price and costs with staying in Wawona hotel it is cheaper since I saved a lot of money by having a kitchen and able to avoid eating out.

Two of my brothers and I shared cabin #26 for three nights this past weekend and had a great time. The cabin’s location is in Wawona about an hour’s drive from the Yosemite Valley, but still nicely positioned for fantastic hiking opportunities without having to get in the vehicle.
The daytime weather was in the 80’s while the evening sky was clear enough to count the stars if you were so inclined. We sat on the large deck, enjoyed martinis & conversation, and grilled to our heart’s content. Kinda romantic sounding for three brothers, eh?
The cabin has most amenities that you’ll want or need, including a kitchen with an awesome Viking gas stove, pots & pans, granite counters, television, WiFi, and unlimited hot water for showers. It didn’t come with basic seasonings such as salt & pepper which would have been nice, so plan ahead.
When it came time to depart on Monday morning, we were told that Highway 41, the nearest park exit, was closed due to a chemical spill of some sort and that we’d need to detour a few hours out of our way. I didn’t buy into that, so we stopped at the local store, the Pine Tree Market, for a local’s view of the situation. The owner suggested taking the dirt road from the Wawona Golf Course over a mountain to Fish Camp. It was a crazy ride over an unmaintained dirt road, but we made it in one piece and bypassed the road closure in the process.

This was our first stay as a part of our big northern california honeymoon. I had never been to Yosemite before, but the trees are absolutely amazing. To try to save a little, we opted to stay here, good choice on hubbys end! I feel bad even complaining about having no cell phone service there though, but that is something that they totally warn you about prior to your arrival, which was appreciated. They do give you complimentary long distance phone calls to your cabin with their phone. So nice to view the nature and see deer close up and other wildlife in their natural habitat. As always, I have gripes about certain things, maybe you could even call them pet peeves:
–We really were away from a lot of the stuff in Yosemite. I think we were even like at the bottom of the hill even. We seemed so far away from everything. Within visiting halfdome (amazing!) and Yosemite Valley, we realized that we may have booked the wrong place as the hotel in Yosemite Valley (which was also the hotel they filmed at for The Shining) was amazing and so close to everything!
–When i pay to stay in a vacation rental, I don’t really like being told that I can’t go in the entire home. They had sectioned off the upstairs part of the house and had a sign saying that we weren’t allowed up there. When I pay for something, I want to use all of it! Something we weren’t told about prior to arrival. Also, the bed in our cabin wasn’t the most comfortable, figuring out the tv was somewhat difficult, and the cabin reeked of campfire. I do understand that we are in the woods in a cabin, but just from sitting in there for a few hours, my clothes reeked of it.
Just a few things to bring with you:
insect repellent
food (they have a full on kitchen, pull refrigerator with freezer, oven, microwave, plus all the utensils and cooking equipment, plus its not like you can easily visit McDonalds for dinner there)
laptop (if youre like me and cant stand feeling disonnected from the real world, however, the internet connection is very poor)
I don’t want it to feel like I hated this place, because it really is a nice place to stay and each cabin is unique. It’s very quiet and the nature surrounding is just amazing. I would recommend this place to others, but only if they don’t want to pay a lot more to stay in Yosemite Valley.
