JJ Fish & Chicken

This place is horrible!!! Customers service sucks! The employees are unbelievably rude!!! I called 9 times and the never answered when i came to the store and i asked what happen the man just shrugged at me like he didn’t know. I asked them do they take call ins he shrugged and said no! I honestly can’t understand how they are still in business! The food is not that great to be treated this way! I DO NOT rec amend this place especially since i run a restaurant and know how you should treat your customers!!!

I love this place! I am always here on my lunch break. I am from Texas, and this is about as close to southern cooking that I have found up here. I always get the chicken wings with extra lemon pepper. The gizzards are delicious as well if you’re a gizzard fan.

I had the large catfish and my children and husband had the wings and we all must say the food was awesome. Will be going back soon.

If you were driving by, you would never even notice this little shop. It’s right next to the gas station and so easy to miss. However, you would not be sorry you stopped by. I agree with most that the best option you got is to take this to-​go and enjoy it at home. There are two small tables that can fit 4 comfortably and 6 if you really try. However, you’ll have way more room to spread out your treasure and enjoy it in all its intended glory.
They make it to order each time, so expect to wait a few minutes if you are ordering there. However, it seems that most people will order over the phone (or on Unilocal?), which would allow them to just grab and go. What’s great is that their are very efficient in the way it is prepared for you. No chances of spilling the food or flipping it over, which is always a plus.
On to the food. I got the Wings/​catfish steak combo for $ 8.99 + tax which comes with 3 wings, and 2 large catfish fillets (There are different combinations of 2 entrees that you can get), fries, and two slices of white bread. Let me tell you, it is worth the price. They will ask you if you want lemon pepper, and since it was my first time, I tried it. It definitely gives it a little more flavor, especially on the wings so I would recommend it as well! The portions are very generous and fair for the price, and you may not even be able to finish it all in one go. Everything is cooked perfectly. The fish has a crispy edge, and the meat is still tender and delicate; the chicken wings are juicy despite being fried, and the fries are relatively crunchy. Now I say relatively because if you like it more crunchy as fried foods are, it depends on how fast you can drive back home. It’s a race against the trapped steam.

Very rude. I called to order and answered me with a «why don’t you come and I’ll show you the menu». Just prepare yourself with their attitude. Very bad experience. Wow.

I understand y people love j j fish cuz it’s delicious
But, i cannot say it is good for dine in. Just pick up and eat it – it’s still good when i got home.

Everything has been said already by all the reviewers. Great food and ask for extra lemon pepper which you can get on the side as well. They always have deals on meals and this is more of a take out place. Parking sucks and neighborhood might look a bit off but it’s not bad at all and people are nice. Unlike some reviewers I won’t take a star of because of location as this is the exact reason the food here is fairly priced. I still have to try the fish which a lot of people recommend, also good tip to place orders on the phone and just pick up.

The wings were simply the bomb. We also tried the catfish and okra. The catfish was so so and the okra was excellent. I recommend this place for the wings alone

Ordered the 30 piece shrimps and hush puppies. I didnt know there was fries included, it does not say on the menu (or atlests didnt see it). Giving 3 stars because of the Hushpuppies. The breading was actually quite salty bland, they seem to tey to give it flavor by over salting it. The fries were okay, but salty for my taste. Prices are good as well. I didnt not get the lemon pepper, which I will try next time, maybe get a better review. The tarter and cocktail sauce are not homemade, which was quite disappointed. I dont quite understand the concept of having 2 slices of bread, there aren’t even seasoned. Food is quite filling, which I guess is a good thing. Will be coming back to try the lemon pepper.

Delicious! Their chicken strips are huge, hand breaded, and just down right delectable! If you like Southern style chicken, go to JJ’s. My husband and I also ate here during Lent a lot. He loves their catfish dinner and always gets an order of fried okra. Their shrimp are good, and I don’t even like seafood. Also, their sauces are fantastic and you can tell they are also homemade. JJ’s cooking reminds my husband and I of our Southern heritage and the homestyle cooking we are fond of.

Placed an order at 10 am for a party I was having. Told them I would be in to get it at 8pm. Arrived 10 minutes early for them to tell me they were out of chicken. They sold my order!!! Talked to the owner today who truly did not care. He didn’t even apologize and said «it happens, we were busy.» Will never do business with them again and I will be sure to spread the word about this unprofessional joke of an establishment.

Be warned the customer service is horrible at this establishment. The shorter male with the glasses whom I presume to be the owner or co owner is a character. I have seen him argue with customers about a mere 2 cents that he had presumably not given the customer which i can vouch for the either lack of mathematical ability or just plain greed. Now let me move into the part i ay into this review. I have gone there twice and ordered just plain chicken tenders but when i came home they were chicken wings a minor setback the first time but twice is unrealistic. The owner or co owner has on 2 occasions not given my father i. law the correct change shorting him upwards of 3 dollars. in addition 2 hot dog specials were placed along with a few other items me and my father in law waited 20 mins and in the end the owner hands us the food says we’re out of hotdogs and is giving us a refund. Number 1 if you knew you were out of hotdogs why wait to let us know? Isn’t it business like to let us know and allow us to order another item? Number 2 we get back and my father in law realizes he was only reimbursed for one of the specials. While the food Is ok and the prices reasonable when getting the right change back, the shady mismanaged and utterly disturbing business practices are reason to stay away. I have seen the owner pretty much throw change at customers who only wanted there exact change back. You have been warned.

Mostly a carryout place. Get everything coated with lemon pepper seasoning. The FRIED CHICKEN is awesome beyond words. FISH is good also. Homemade hot sauce goes great with everything. CORN NUGGETS are sweet and creamy fried goodness! Everything is reasonably inexpensive for how delicious it is. Order in advance and pick up to save having to hang out unless you like getting your sketchiness on.

The only reason this place is getting 4 stars instead of 5 is the location. It looks so sketchy but the food is AMAZING. Best fried fish and chicken I’ve had. Just wish this location would be in a better, safer place. If you arrive and see the entrance, you’ll know what I mean. Not the safest. I would suggest ordering to go.

I don’t know who JJ is but I do know he (or she) can cook! Don’t be fooled by the exterior of this place — the neighborhood is a little sketchy — it is worth stopping in for some fried goodness. Tried the catfish fillet, chicken wings and shrimp. Everything was perfectly crisp and not greasy at all. I don’t know what their secret is but I’m definitely a fan.
On a side note, ask for the lemon pepper sauce on the side of your order. The special mix of seasonings adds an extra touch of deliciousness to your meal.

Their fries are great. Sometimes they put a little bit too much seasoning, but still good. I’m not a big seafood guy so I always get the chicken tenders which never disappoint. They are relatively quick unless it’s busy. I would recommend this place to anyone that likes chicken.

What can you say… The wings are always spot on! Catfish is pretty darn good as well. Try to preorder if you can due to long waits but other then that it’s well worth it!

Went here last night at 10pm for the first time. I’m not from the area so it was definitely a new experience ;x lol. Anyway I absolutely loved the catfish nuggets so much that I’m going back there again just for those! Plus it’s not too far from six flags & opened ’til midnight so: D The only reason I had to give it a 4star is because they forgot both mine and my buddies coleslaw :-/​the meal was too dry tasting without it I need my mixture (veggies always) good service otherwise :-)

Sketchy looking… but sooooooo cheap and sooooooooo good! I always get the six piece wing dinner. Ask for extra lemon pepper on the side cause its amazing. I would buy a bottle if I could.
