Avocado Express

I ordered enchiladas and they gave me flautas covered with sauce. I asked about this and they told me that there was no difference between the two other than one is covered with sauce. I pointed out that right next to their register was a picture of real enchiladas covered with green sauce and the two cashiers gave me a puzzled look and stated «well our enchiladas are the same as flautas». The staff did not seem to be motivated to do much other than take an order and give the food out. From the moment I walked in to when I left, no one smiled, greeted me or said «thank you», (basically any basic customer service).
As I was about to leave, one of the cashiers offered to get a manager to address my concern, but this was after I was there for five minutes eating my «enchiladas» and I had already brought it up to them once I got my food.
The food was decent, but the fact that it was misleading to label flautas covered in sauce as «enchiladas» and for their poor attempts to provide customer service/​answer question led to me given a low rating.

Fast service– friendly counter help. A lot of choices on the menu should satisfy most anyone.
The drill is this– you make your order at the counter, pay for it, and they bring it to your table.
I found it hard to read the copy of the menu on their website– check the photos of the take out menu posted on Unilocal for a better experience.
Give Avocado Express a try when you are in the mood for fresh rather than fried.

I have to be in Waukegan regularly for work and have stopped by this establishment numerous times. Very friendly, Husband and Wife run restaurant (and they are apparently opening a location in Libertyville as well before the end of 2015).
All the meals I have ordered have been tasty and you sure can’t beat the prices… don’t think I have ever paid more than $ 8 for a meal and drink there (compared to $ 12-​$ 15 at Panera, Noodles, Potbelly, Chipolte, etc).
The only complaint I would have is to leave the hash browns on the grille a little bit longer. =)

The prices are perfect. The chilaquiles are great! Its busy every time i go but totally worth it. Will be coming back to try their other food options.

Such a great find with fresh food and friendly service. The red sauce on the chiquiles is spicy but worth every bite in combination with the over easy eggs cooked to perfection. The chicken panini was cooked perfectly and the Avocado Southwest Chicken Salad was filling and healthy. Great family atmosphere.

I have eaten here several times now and have been happy with it every time. Unfortunately the chicken chipotle Panini is so good that it is the only thing I’ve ever ordered! I’m going to try the pesto Panini one of these days if I can get past the chicken chipotle! The place has gotten more and more busy so I would call ahead any pick up order.

i went here with a co-​worker on the reviews of Unilocal,like I always do. And Unilocalers did NOT disappoint. This place was so good! I got the Chicken Pesto Panini since it seemed to be the thing to get and I would LOVE to get another one. It was perfect size, filling and cheesy. Ample amounts of pesto and chicken, nothing was over powering and you tasted everything. You get a choice of fries or fruit. I took the fries. The ONLY thing I would recommend them do is not use the same fryer they use to fry the tortillas, etc. I tasted that the second I took a bite and I stay away from corn products cuz they will hurt my stomach. 2 separate fryers would be ideal I know its probably not cheap, but it is something to def. consider doing. The fries were good though, thin and crispy, best way to have them. I will def. be frequenting this establishment during my lunch hour. They do serve breakfast all day, I could smell them cookin hasbrowns, so you can get your breakfast fix at lunch! I cant wait to actually try their breakfast.

Even thought that they have screwed my order a couple of time I will still give 5 stars it’s delicious food and healthy not too greasy like an another restaurants my favorite it’s the flautas and the chilaquiles I recommend this place a hundred percent

Funny how somebody posted a few hours ago abuot then about them screwing up the order several times! Cuz they effed up line today! I saw all the stars and good reviews, so I decided to stop in for fresh food and good prices because I was in the area! Well I said no lettuce and ketchup! And what do you know my burger is smothered in ketchup, and covers in soggy lettuce! Ewww! When I specifically said I want everything on it minus the LETTUS & KETCHUP! not hard to comprehend!

Came here for lunch today and it was delicious. I ordered the avocado southwest chicken salad and my bf ordered an avocado chicken sandwich with fries. The prices are really good. The only thing I would add is a bit more chicken to the servings. My salad while it was good it lacked chicken :(it came with only a few strips and my bf sandwich looked a little sad with a few strips of chicken as well. Other than that the service was good. Seems like they keep busy and it was clean.

I stopped in Avocado Express for lunch today. I enjoyed the Chicken Pesto Panini. All sandwiches come with fries or fruit for $ 5.49. I usually order fruit, but today I tried the fries. The sandwich was excellent (as is every sandwich I’ve had here). The fries were thin (which I like), but I prefer them a little more done. Based upon the photos, this may be an anomaly.
This is a clean, well-​run establishment. It is a refreshing change of pace from the numerous other fast food places in Waukegan.
If you are in Waukegan and looking for something different, this is a good place to go.

The staff are nice and friendly, the tacos I ate there were not great when got to the table they were cold. Prices are good but, am just talking about the tacos. For tacos I go next door, they are delicious the best tacos in town for me.

A-​MAZING! I was really thrilled to have visited this place for the first time since it has been introduced to my hometown! Today I had a chicken pesto panini with a side of fresh fried crunchy fries (try to say that several times LOL!). The panini was made with chicken in pesto sauce, spinach leaves, diced tomatoes, and some kind of cheese (I believe it was mozzarella) and my freshly squuezed orange juice. All were amazing, and their usage of fresh produce in their ingredients is an excellent choice for any and all business vs. the canned stuff. The fries maybe needed just a touch of seasoning, maybe i’m just being a little picky but nonetheless my experience was amazing!
The restaurant is small, but don’t let the size of the location fool you, it’s quite the ‘taste bud punch’ lol! Would definitely return for seconds! Will try the other entrees they offer! Waukegan definitely has potential in regards to culinary services!

Overall very good family fast food. Patty melt Burger was above average. What makes it good is the panini stlye bread with grooved marks from pressing it. The round beef patty doesn’t fit the loaf shaped bread so you have an extra ¹⁄₃ of the sandwich that was only bread but not a big deal because the bread is delicious. The beef patty was somewhere in between fast food and restaurant quality. It did not have a rich beef flavor or fresh consistency but wasnt offensive either. The sauteed onions and cheese were a modest portion and I found myself yearning for more gooey goodness that party melts are known for. The fries are crispy awesome! The horchata beverage is some of the best I have had in a long time. Great flavor with a hint of cinnamon. The regular sized horchata is small, like maybe 12 oz so I say go for the large. The dining environment is very clean and cozy. The staff is friendly and take great pride in this place. Next time I’ll try the panini as I believe this is their specialty. Overall, this is a great alternative to chain fast food joints and a good value for 8 bucks. Most fast food joints earn 2 stars so this place gets an honest 4 stars and is recommended.

Boyfriend took me here for our Sunday brunch. It’s a cute little place located on Washington and Green Bay rd. The food is freshly made (open kitchen) so it can take a while if there’s a lot of people.
I got the avocado chicken sandwich. It was pretty good. If you’re like me and don’t like the meat overly salty, then you won’t be disappointed in this sandwich. I like how they have the chipotle mayo on the side for you as well. The mayo is a tiny bit spicy which I don’t like.
I’m assuming they fry everything in that fryer, that’s why their fries have that tortilla after taste lol. The corn tortilla taste doesn’t really bother me but would prefer fries to taste like fries.
The chicken chipotle panini isn’t bad either! If you like that light spiciness on your sandwich, this one is for you! And who doesn’t like bacon on their sandwich?! :)
I notice their soft drink is kinda pricey. Especially for the size.
I would return and try their breakfast next time. Looks delicious.

Avocado Express is probably the best thing that has happened to Waukegan. The staff is friendly and make you feel at home. What’s better is the story behind the restaurant, how the husband and wife’s dream is coming true. Love it.
The food is absolutely excellent. Everything is made fresh to order, so yes it does take longer than the average fast food. Absolutely worth it. They offer a variety of food without getting too over themselves with the menu. From breakfast to lunch/​dinner the prices are amazing. Where else would you get a fresh, hot, perfect panini and crisp fries for $ 6? You as well get the choice of fries or fruit. The fruit makes this place double as an actual healthy, fast-​food restaurant.
I have to say the only downfall are the hours of operation on weekends. At least until 10pm, please!

I’ve eaten here so many times in the last month, it’s embarrassing! Everything I have tried (or that my fellow diners have tried) has been fresh and yummy– from salads to paninis to wraps. Everything is made fresh to order and the restaurant is super clean (sometimes hard to come by around here!). Nice, attentive employees and very fair prices. We definitely needed a place like this in Waukegan. A couple of outside dining tables would be the only thing that I could wish for!
