Just average bar food, just a fraction of the online menu was actually available and the food was very greasy. Friendly and fast service though.

Everything my family ordered was very well made. Kids even said it tasted homemade. Cobb salad was so fresh, especially for a bar. Service was GREAT!

I’m not sure where I first heard of Waukegan. Was it Bill & Ted? Ferris Beuller? The Blues Brothers? I don’t know. But suffice it to say that I have never been there. Until now.
I came up to Waukegan to see Joel McHale. And before the show we came to 17 North to have a drink and a bite.
The best thing about this place is the staff. Super nice, super helpful, and super friendly. Really. The other great thing about this place (and Waukegan in general) is the price. $ 4 for a shot, $ 5 for a beer. What nice change of pace from the jacked up prices of Chicago proper.
The okay part is the food. Not a huge selection, for sure. Bar food for the most part. But pretty tasty, actually. The waffle fries, especially, get a special mention.
The less than ideal is the beer selection (honestly, it’s shit, with only a few descent locals), and the weirdo gambling vibe. Yeah, there are video gambling machines in a few places with the requisite zombie old people sitting there on their oxygen machines hitting the buttons as fast as they can. Damn, I’m depressing myself…
Really, 17 North is okay. Drop by, have a nice burger (and the waffle fries), a few drinks, and then head to the show. After all, that’s the only reason you’re in Waukegan, isn’t it?

Limited offerings in Waukegan before heading to the Genesee Theater, but 17 North is a wise choice. If you are looking for frills and fine dining, keep looking. However if you want a clean spot to eat or chill before a show at the Theater, this will work. We enjoyed a Beef Sandwich and Prime Rib Sandwich. The Beef wasn’t fancy, but solid, tasty, and plenty of mozzarella cheese upon request. The Prime Rib Sandwich — again not much to look at, but there was a ¼″ thick slab of prime rib which was cooked perfectly and had a real nice flavor. For dessert we had a homemade Candy Cane Cupcake, which was moist and delightful. The bar was fine with the typical, better known craft beers, on tap and then bottles of other well knowns. The price was really reasonable too — two people $ 25, including a drink each! The servers were very friendly and efficient. The washrooms were large and clean (always a bonus). So if you are going to a show at The Genesee Theater, stop here first — and the afterwards. .. Our server told us if you bring in your ticket after the show, your first drink is FREE! Nice!

Came here with 4 other people for a drink and bite to eat. The bartender was really nice. She got our drinks out right away. Food came out quickly after we ordered. Food was really good. Would defiantly eat here again.
We came here early evening so not to many people were in the place. Seems like this would be a really fun place on a weekend or with a group of friends.

I was taking my hubby and his friends to the train to get to a soccer game, and unfortunately we missed the train. BUT, fortunately because we missed the train we spent an hour at this bar since it is literally right across from the train station. The bartender was very, very friendly, I am pregnant and not able to drink but she didn’t give me an attitude for asking for water with lemon the whole time which sometimes happens. :P They also have delicious cupcakes here! A very good bar, with a wide beer selection (mostly bottles, but they have a lot of craft beer to select from.) especially for the area.

My wife and I had to wait 20 minutes just to get served. And then we were given excuses as to y it took so long.

This bar is something special. We were camping near by out of town and we instantly felt welcome by the owner, bartender, and local patrons of the bar. Great atmosphere and the drinks are strong!!! Great place to watch a sports game or get a quick bite to eat! Definitely a hidden gem!

Great place to watch a game. We went for the Blackhawks. Plenty of screens, attentive staff, great prices on drinks and a drawing for a jersey at the end of the night! Lot’s of fun and the place has a fun crowd.

Delicious bar food, haven’t had an item I didn’t like! Great selection of craft beer and a warm and friendly staff. It is a hidden gem, but a gem indeed!

Jeni the bartender is awesome. Solid bar quality food. The cook also came out and made sure out food was all good. Spicy Polish was tasty.

Came here on a whim and had a blast! Great drinks, great service, and the game is on, no matter which one it is. Good place for a good time with friends. 2 stories, a bar on both levels, and a restroom on both, too! Super convinient! Pool, comfortable lounge area, darts, good drinks, and the owner is a great guy, too!

This place has the best coffee in Waukegan. The prices are very reasonable. We like their weekend breakfast: good diner-​style breakfast food, cooked the way you like it.

This place is great. It’s big and roomy. The insides are clean and neat. The staff is all super friendly. The food is so good. I brought my parents here for Veterans Day and had the most delicious breakfast. I stop in sometimes for lunch. I most recently had a hot plate special, lasagna. It was so good! They just added darts and pool tables upstairs! We played all night long! Definitely will be back and I always refer my friend.

This place has just recently added a second floor which has pool tables, fooseball, darts… Pretty cool. The bar is extensive and has good variety of beers on tap. They have daily specials which are quite the bargain. I found it hard to not like anything on the menu. We ate at the bar; fast friendly service and the food was tasty! We ordered the buffalo shrimp, buffalo chicken sandwich, buffalo chicken wrap, and the buffalo wings… Yeah I know a lot of buffalo but everyone loved the food. The bar offers 8 nice flat screens and there is also a gaming section which looked fun but I didn’t bother checking it out since I was with a group. I’d definitely come back here and recommend this place to friends.

An assertively modern style façade that is far different to the surrounding buildings at this restaurant in the heart of Genesee Street. The interior sets you in a more modern appeal with a mix of the original staircase that leads to a quite impressive lounge area on the second floor. Newly added televisions tastefully cover the walls that lead to the long bar that is tucked into the rear. A great choice of craft beers and liquor clearly line the bar area. The menu which is all American which includes a Reuben that is making news among the patrons. I enjoyed the simple Turkey Club that was well put together. I got a glimpse of the One Pound Burger that was clearly the largest Burger that I have ever seen. The staff was wonderful and informed me up the upcoming Breakfast that will be served coming soon. My overall experience was great and it is great to see this type of restaurant on this side of downtown Waukegan.
