Waterville Public Library

Waterville Public Library is a great place to being little ones for playtime. We come here as often as possible.

Oh dear, what a disappointment :(
I am a book worm and absolutely love libraries. I was looking for a quiet place to get some work done on my laptop between two appointments for work and thought: What better place than a library?
Well let me tell you: I would have been better off picking a Cancan bar over this library if I was going to get any work done at all. Partially, the incredible volume of noise isn’t the library’s fault as it is currently undergoing massive renovation. So they cannot help the constant pounding, drilling, sawing, banging, clanging, thumping, etc that goes on without a break.
But to add to this, the staff sit at their open desk are and talk loudly to one another, gossiping in voices that carry about what they had for lunch, their husbands, and the latest show they saw on TV. And since the main desk is only a few yards from the only tables available to sit and work at, you are forced to overhear every single syllable of the staff conversations.
Then, to add insult to injury, the patrons of the Waterville library seem to have no understanding whatsoever of common courtesy when it comes to other people: I sat there on my laptop, clearly attempting to get work done, while an elderly man had an extremely loud and long conversation on his cell phone literally less than a foot from me, a dozen or so teenagers stomped around, texting each other and throwing coats at one another, and a woman shouted over and over again at her young child who kept pulling magazines off the racks and throwing them. I sat there, unable to work, in absolute disbelief at what was going on around me.
As if all this wasn’t enough, the staff purposely turned their backs on me and made me wait for well over five minutes while they finished their loud conversation before they would acknowledge me long enough to respond to my simple question regarding where the bathroom was. The shelves and furniture look as if they haven’t been cleaned in a decade, so bring some hand sanitizer if you’re forced to frequent this establishment.
Quite frankly, this library is the loudest, dingiest and least welcoming I have ever set foot in. I thought Mainers were supposed to be welcoming and friendly! :(Avoid it at all costs if you can!
