Specialties

We are a local bar that focuses on handmade Wood-​Fired Pizzas, outstanding wings, and weekend specials such as fried chicken, baby-​back ribs, and Wood-​Fired Salmon. We have rotating local craft beers on draft and offer a large selection of fine liquors as well. Our side yard is open year round and features picnic tables as well as a bonfire pit. We strive make everyone feel welcome and are family friendly.

History

Established in 2010.

We purchased this bar from Art and Kathy who owned it since the seventies. Since taking over we have expanded hours, completed a massive renovation, and opened our kitchen. We are dedicated to serving our community in an affordable and responsible manner.

I’ve worked in restaurants and bars since I was fourteen. I am trained as an artist and educator and currently am a Co-​Director at the Wassaic Project.

Had been wanting to check out this place for such a long time and finally was able to make the trip up to check it out. Boy was it worth it. This place is absolutely a hidden jem and I would give it a two thumbs up.

Delicious pizza! The only place in the area to get neopolitan style pizza. I’ve tried all the ones they serve and they’re all excellent. I only wish they had them in bigger sizes and the kitchen was open more often…

Great little bar in an area that is lacking in good watering holes. I frequently stop in on my way home from work. The staff is friendly and the owners are extremely sweet. My only complaint is I wish they stayed open later and served food more often. But these are small infractions of an otherwise charming establishment.

My family and I had dinner at the Lantern Inn on a Friday night. The place seems like it has a nice casual vibe, the pizza was quite good and I liked the IPA on tap that I ordered.
I do think the service needs work. My husband did not get the pizza he ordered and the waiter threw it down on the table and walked away so fast he didn’t even get a chance to tell her. Rather than run after her and have to wait for the correct order, my husband just ate the one he got.
When he got up to pay, he didn’t come back for about 15 minutes. He said there was no one waiting but he couldn’t get the attention of the people behind the bar who were chatting with each other. Then apparently someone the bartender knew came up to pay and they helped that person while my husband was still standing there.
I’ll give this place another chance because I know how these things are – but the manager should talk to their staff about good service.

Visited on a snowy day over the New Years weekend for a quick daycation. I had already messaged Jeff about whether they’d be open and he got back to me quickly. Walked in, met Cassie and Peter, and we were sure our trip would be a winner. First, the excellent wood fired pizzas and the bar selection was better than most would expect in Wassaic. But what makes a difference is the people. Let’s put it this way: we ended up swapping contact info with the gang! I think Cassie is going to be our houseguest before long. Thanks Peter for the ride to the train after we’d had too much to care. Best possible way to spend a day in Wassaic. We will certainly be back!

I take the train back & forth to NYC everyday from Wassaic & noticed The Lantern Inn from my window earlier this year. Finally got around to checking it out a few weeks ago and am sorry I didn’t sooner. The kale pizza is deeelish! Great beer on draft (I’m very picky; ecstatic they had Lagunitas) & the bartender was a hoot! This will be our local watering hole for sure. Will definitely hit it up during the Wassaic Project.

The Lantern Inn has, for several years, been our favorite local bar. We looked forward to the addition of the food menu, and have not been disappointed. Without sacrificing any elements that have made the bar a local institution – attentive service, affordable prices, a communal environment – the restaurant has rewarded loyal bar patrons with a high-​quality augmentation of existing services, and has provided to new clientele a food option that is unique to the area in its focused, elegant scope and thoughtful quality. Well done guys! We particularly recommend the Maxon Mills pie. Yum.
