Delicious sushi! We all want fresh, flavorful, and pretty looking sushi and this place delivers all! My wife and I would always go to Bambu in Portland for our sushi fix, now we can stay in town. They have a few tables inside and a bar to watch your sushi being made or TV. The staff is friendly and happy to serve, no snobbery here! Good job guys, keep it up!

We eat sushi everywhere and often, we tried sushi joint not expecting much and were so happy we did. We started with a miso that was delicious, we took that as a good sign, the sushi was fresh, rice just right, generous portions and friendly accommodating staff. No complaints and look forward to going back, thank you sushi joint!!!

While I definitely applaud the changing washougal food scene, I am pretty appalled by the sushi being put forth at the sushi joint. I have given the joint quite a few opportunities to make up for the first awful meal I was served and they have still yet to hit any sweet spot of mine as far as sushi is concerned. Once it was still frozen edamame(my bad for not canceling the order when I saw them pull the bag out of the freezer), the next it was a California roll that tasted solely of mayo, another time the fish was all above room temperature and the tuna was mush as far as texture goes, and it continues. The last time and I mean it now, the first smell I got when walking in was cigarettes the second was old fryer oil, I still ordered, being set on sushi, only to find my nigiri to be shredded to bits in parts and way to thick in others. The temperature of the fish ranged from cold to disgustingly warm, the rice underneath was mushy and there was little actual flavor. This place was sold to me as better than most Portland sushi and up there with bamboo sushi. This is by far some of the worst sushi I have been served in years. Stop drinking the kool aid people, washougal food does not have to suck, oh and stop giving me styrofoam to go boxes! Updated a few days later: the owner did reach out and offer to give me a refund for my meals, that’s appreciated and classy, that said good luck to you guys from the looks of it if you can fix consistency issues you might be alright

Beyond Amazing!!! Right up there with Bamboo Sushi, fresh, clean, and their presentation is fabulous! Paul the owner is a ROCKSTAR and his passion for food and great dining experience is his top priority. This is a small space and it can get very busy. They provide take-out and call in orders. If you love sushi then skip the drive to Portland and take the scenic drive to Washougal. It’s worth the trip and you won’t have to fight traffic.

Completely believe all the reviews you read on here. The Sushi Joint has it all. Fresh fish, explosions of taste in your mouth, creative sauces, excellent presentation, and very friendly staff. We had the Fallen Leaf roll, the sushi joint roll, the rainbow roll, salmon belly nigiri, tamago nigiri, and salmon sashimi. It was all dee-licious! The sushi joint roll had wonderful flavor and a satisfying bite. Fallen leaf roll had a creative mix of ingredients and a pleasing taste. All the salmon was soooo fresh and buttery tasting. Tamago, which is something I always try, was light with that perfect sweetness. I don’t think you could go wrong closing your eyes and blindly pointing to anything on this menu. I am a true fan of Mio Sushi as I find their product to be almost as equally pleasing as The Sushi Joint. But almost! The Sushi Joint gets the edge, though slight, for taste and beautiful presentation! The only downside to The Sushi Joint is how small it is. They could easily fill three times the space just about every night. Get there by 5:00pm on most nights or you could be waiting.

We just moved from Seattle, travel for work and personally. We try to eat sushi wherever we go and felt the best sushi is found in Seattle. When we moved here one of our worries was finding as good of places that feature such amazing NW seafood. Sushi Joint compares and beats any Seattle location(and we’ve been to all of them). Add in Washougal prices and there is hands down no bigger bang for your buck sushi spot… Anywhere!

This place is absolutely awesome! Great sushi and great service and very reasonable. Additionally, the owner is very nice and personable. There could be more seating, but I’m sure they’ll accommodate for more people soon. Overall this is an excellent place to have an enjoyable and pleasant sushi dining experience.

Wife and I have been here twice now and we love it. I’m a Dragon Roll lover and they make them the right way and excellent quality. The owner has been there both times and is a really nice guy, perfect for this business. Can’t wait to see his new frozen yogurt/café a couple doors down. The guys behind the counter are wonderful, always very nice, attentive and engaging when appropriate. What a great change of pace for Washougal, perfect lunch or dinner then on to Amnesia across the street for a beer/cider. Mio Sushi is good too but this is even better IMHO. Good luck, hope you do well and the Washougal folks support you.

I’ve eaten a lot of sushi in my time. In a lot of places. I fondly remember the old place in Montréal where I tried sushi for the first time and Canada’s former prime minister was sitting in the back room with his sons. Funny one of those kids just assumed office. I discovered places in my travels, odd places in Eastern block Europe, over-rated celebrity places in San Diego, local powerhouses in Altanta, Morimoto’s in Philly… I would place The Sushi Joint in the top 5 I ever experienced and the absolute best in Portland metro. I know Portlanders are frequently offended at the notion that Clark County could have anything worth traveling for, much less Washougal. This small restaurant has about as much counter-space as Swan’s in San Francisco, arguably the best oyster shop in the world. They have a non-descript Hispanic-looking sushi chef and a soft-spoken front-of-house owner who takes suggestions on which flavored juices and alcoholic beverages he should start to stock. He quality of sushi depends first and foremost on freshness. Next on presentation. Third on creativity in new combinations. Fourth in price. This place has it all. The BA beach features deep fried rolls which are topped with spicy tuna. A stuffed avocado features avocado slices wrapped around crab salad giving the appearance of a rather large avocado in the center of the plate. I could go on, but we are still eating our way trough the entire menu. They only offer Mochi balls for dessert, but if you’ve ever had one, it’s perfect, especially given how small the open kitchen is. Fact is, it’s already getting crowded at peak times with people waiting inside the door on cold rainy December nights. My guess is that by January, it’ll be always crowded with people lining up outside until they knock down the wall and expand. I’m not looking forward to the inevitable price increases. Not the first really successful place on Main Street Washougal, but all Portlanders note, Amnesia brewing across the street makes it a nice combination evening!

Bottom line: best nuevo sushi in Clark County. It’s a very small venue but the service and atmosphere are great. Prices are reasonable. What an unexpected treat. Ate here for dinner and had the salmon, ahi and hamachi nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, gyoza and a house salad. The nigiri was good. Rice was OK but a little mushy and the fish was frozen/thawed but good quality. The spicy tuna roll was very good. The gyoza was deep fried with a sweet/spicy Vietnamese sauce. It tasted good but kind of a stretch for a sushi joint. The house salad was very good, a whimsical combination of seaweed, cucumbers roasted pork and micro greens. The place is very small, the bar and a few of tables but has a feel like something you might experience Asia since many restaurants are that size or smaller. The décor looks to be work in progress. Hey, they just opened. The service is great and the owner was great too. I had to take one star off for the fish being frozen, the rice and the small venue but compared to the other sushi places in the area, it’s the best by far. It’s now my go to sushi place. Yeah, I have been to the trendy sushi bars in Portlandia and this place can hold it’s own with them at less cost. Check it out. Ate here again 12÷19÷15 and it was great again and they have BEER and Sake!!! I LOVE this place.

I’ve been eye balling the gorgeous food photos posted on Facebook for weeks.(Go to Facebook right NOW and look!) Today was the day we ate sushi!!! Washougal roll & Spider roll were as delicious as they were beautiful. Warm sticky rice, fresh fish, crunchy veggies, and flying fish roe bursting with goodness. Oh. My. Gosh. I never knew sushi was this amazing. Good thing I took photos before the Panda & I dug in– because we ate every tasty tasty bite.

So awesome to have sushi here in Washougal. Makes it even better that this place is absolutely delicious. The price is right for the quality. Everything was very fresh. Try the stuffed avocado, it was amazing, but not on the menu.

My husband and I tried the sushi joint on a date night. It was a Friday night it was busy. We put our names on a list and were texted when our spot was ready. The wait was not a problem as we headed for a beer across the street, The owner was very friendly, personable, and accommodating. Food was promptly served and was delicious! Sushi was great and probably better than our usual favorite place(Mio). We will be back. The down side of the place as its really small and doesn’t accommodate larger parties. But that could be a good thing, it seems so many places go out of business probably due to high rent and not enough business. We love to support local friendly businesses.

Andres is an excellent sushi chef! Great service! Yummy fresh sushi! We really enjoyed the Beauty & the Beast Roll. My daughter loved the shrimp tempura. Also great spicy tuna hand roll.

Wonderful little addition to the all so barren Washougal culinary theme. We judge our sushi restaurant with 3 basic elements. Rice, miso soup and fish. Rice, sticky and soft, just like the way it should. Slightly warm(fresh) and properly seasoned(not too sweet and not too sour). Miso soup, great flavor, not watery and not fishy. Fish, fresh and generous. Sushi joint nailed all three! We are so happy to have such descent place to satisfy our sushi craving right in our little town.

It was so good I forgot to take a picture of my amazing food. I’ve been there twice and both experiences were fantastic. The dragon roll is my favorite so far and the salmon nigiri was very fresh. The price was fair because you are paying for QUALITY! This place is very small inside so if you’re worried about having a place to sit call ahead and see if they are busy. And be considerate to other patrons by eating and not hanging around for too long because there are many good washougal/camas establishments that you can hang out at and chat.

O.K. so I’m going out here on a limb and gonna say it is the best sushi bar in all of Clark County. It was amazing. Wow! We will certainly be back just to make sure. I like the setup – love sitting at the bar watching the chefs. We had the Dragon Roll and the Washougal Roll. Beautiful presentation but the taste was as good as top notch places I’ve been to in Portland & Seattle.
