History
Established in 1951.
Founded by Don Hillermann in the spring of 1951, Hillermann Nursery started out as a hobby. Don’s brother Bernie joined him in 1953 and a partnership was formed. One year later, having been laid off from their factory positions, the two became full-time nurserymen.
The business was started at the old location on West 5th Street in Washington. From these beginnings, Hillermann Nursery & Florist has flourished. The company moved to its current location at 2601 East 5th Street in November of the year 2000.
Today Hillermann’s is a large, diversified company, employing more than 80 people and providing a wide variety of services. These services include: Garden Center, Nursery, Florist/Gift Shop, Landscape and Irrigation Design and Installation, Grading and Seeding, Aquatic Weed Control, Snow Removal, Spraying, and Lawn and Garden Equipment Sales and Service.
Second-generation family members actively continue the business through the inspiration of Don and Bernie Hillermann.

Sandi M.
Business Owner
Sandi, along with her siblings, are second-generation owners of Hillermann Nursery and Florist in Washington, Missouri. She grew up in the horticultural industry and started working for her Father, Bernie Hillermann, and Uncle, Donald Hillermann, when she was sixteen.
Sandi has been involved in all aspects of the business and in various industry organizations. She has an AAS degree in Ornamental Horticulture and is a Missouri Certified Nursery-woman. She served as the first woman president of the St. Louis Landscape and Nursery Association, the first woman president of the Missouri Landscaping and Nursery Association, and the first woman president and the first time second-generation family member to serve as president of the Garden Centers of America. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Landscape and Nurserymen’s Association of Greater St. Louis and the Western Landscape and Nursery Association.
