I began my career as a wildland firefighter in the US Forest Service, I switched a few years ago to a municipal department and now work fulltime as a firefighter locally in the Greater DC area. I started Mosquito Squad of Greater DC in the fall of 2007.

What brought me into the public health pest control business; I loved the uniqueness of the Mosquito Squad business model when I first saw it. Since I started the business I have poured my heart into building our reputation by providing excellent workmanship and customer service. What I have loved and enjoyed most about this business has been my interactions with our customers, I love hearing about how our service has made a difference in their lives as well as dealing with the challenges of meeting expectations. My aspiration is to continue to build on the reputation we have and provide the best possible service in the industry to our customers.

I had a terrible experience with DC Mosquito Squad. I was doing the organic application because I had an active garden, but it wasn’t working very well, so I asked them to come and do one application of the normal/​more toxic application. I stayed home so I could be sure that they weren’t going to spray my vegetables and herbs. Even though they were supposed to give me notice when they were coming, they didn’t. I looked out my window and saw a man with a gas mask on spraying ALL OVER my garden, including on my vegetables! I went outside, took a mouthful of the stuff, and he proceeded to argue with me. The worst part was that I was having a tree trimmed that day, so the guy with the gas mask was spraying all over the garden while 4 – 5 other men were standing around and/​or working. How irresponsible! How could you spray with other people around, spray on the vegetables in the garden, and then argue with the owner once you’re called out for all of the above. I wouldn’t trust that the folks doing these applications are in tune with what management asks them to do… if you garden or have pets, steer clear.
p. s. They did give me a full refund, remarkably, after spending a ton of time on the phone with them, livid.

I was holding off on a review until the season was done. I paid $ 630 for the season, May through October. It was ok, but I will not hire them again next year. I have dogs that are in the backyard so I always tried to schedule when I was home. I didn’t always see the email that they send the day before to let you know they’re coming. Clearly if the dogs were in the backyard they didn’t spray. Only once did they call to say they were unable to do the backyard because of the dogs. The other times I would get the notice as usual indicating the entire yard was done when I knew it couldn’t possibly have been done. There were other occasions when they would be gone less than 10 mins after they pulled to the curb, so again, I know they didn’t do the backyard even when the dogs were inside. I called twice to have them come back after witnessing them skip half my yard. The attitude I got when the crew returned was not pleasant, so I gave up. Unless you’ll always be home to keep a watchful eye I wouldn’t suggest hiring them.
Did I have mosquitos? For the most part, no. Which is why I’ll be generous and give 3 stars. What I did have was a crazy amount of gnats. I thought they were covered from what I’d read, but they’re not. It’s an extra fee per application. When I paid $ 630 up front for the season I wasn’t about to pay MORE.
I’ll do more research next year and find a better company.

Made a huge difference in our quality of living! We have a pool and eat outside each evening. We were miserable as we either sprayed our bodies or swatted at bites daily. One visit, and that is all history. Wish I had known about them earlier. I will never go a summer without them!

This service is a definite MUST. I didn’t think it would work honestly, but even after the 1st treatment, that same night, my wife, kids and nanny all noticed an unbelievable improvement. We could all be outside for hours without scratching. This is seriously some of the best money ever spent and I will continue to scream from the rooftops to anyone I know about how effective it is. I even told my General manager at Lakewood Country Club they had to use them as its been a problem. Also, their communication whether by phone or email is amazing. They leave no stones unturned and I give them 15 stars for service, value and PERFORMANCE!!!

Terrible service — they failed to call before coming to spray numerous times. When we tried to reschedule spraying they failed to show up or call to inform us they couldn’t provide service. Complete disappointment.

We finally decided that we had enough of our mosquito problem in DC. We had spent two summers trying to combat the issue ourselves. Clearing water-​trapping items from the yard, mosquito dunks in gutters and drains, planting mint, lemon grass etc, the mosquitoes just laughed at us and then started eating us. I tried commercially available sprays from Home Depot etc and they just did not work either. When the mosquitoes turned on the newborn we decided to get serious about the problem and called Mosquito Squad in the middle of the summer.
They prorated a summer contract for us and applied their first spray on a Thursday. AMAZING. We got our yard back. The process was a little intimidating. The specialist do show up in exposure suits, however, they were professionals and treated all of the nooks and crannies around the yard. They also asked about our herbs and avoided those.
Our contract called for a treatment every three weeks. We were also told that we could get intermediate treatments if we had a problem. We had to call on two occasions and the technicians arrived a couple of days later.
Most impressive is that when our contract ended at the end of mosquito season with a last treatment all was well until the Indian summer of October. The mosquitoes returned and we contacted Mosquito Squad. They returned the following day and treated our yard again! No more mosquitoes for this last week! What great Customer Service. We noted a problem and Mosquito Squad fixed it without the slightest delay.

No mosquitoes… period. First year we have used the service — last year we were eaten alive. Holding back 5th star to see how things go now that we are really getting hot, but I am very optimistic. Good customer service, reasonable price, and a great product.

I can actually go out in my garden since I started service with Mosquito Squad. I have asked that they not spray my grapes and they comply. I have a big garden with lots of flowers and shrubs that mosquitos love. We also compost out grass clippings which apparently little biting gnats can breed in — ugh. This company is great. I give it 5 stars for their service and billing staff!

I love Mosquito Squad. We live near the Potomac, in Potomac Yard, where the bug problem is seriously bad. I mean, at one point our backyard was probably a swamp, and the ground gets flooded when it rains. We have a huge backyard too, with lots of bushes and spots where mosquitos like to breed. Not to mention the kiddie pool and various other toys which we aren’t so good about emptying out.
We were having serious mosquito issues, to the point where if my 1 and 2 year old sons and I stayed outside for 15 minutes, we had about 5 – 10 bug bites and had to go inside. You could literally see the mosquitos swarming about us.
1 hour after the Mosquito Squad first sprayed, the mosquitoes were gone. Not a single bite, and not a single mosquito in sight. I was amazed, and delighted to be able to play in the backyard with my two boys again. There was no strange odor or evidence at all of the spray, other than the lack of mosquitoes.
The effects really did last for about 21 days, when they made another visit. A couple of points in the season, when we were especially bad about not emptying the kiddie pool and so forth, the mosquito population increased. I would just call or email, and they would come right out within a couple of days. I received excellent service and feedback, and the servicemen were very polite.

Okay. Well, I have to say that what they do is great. They do keep mosquitos away. HOWEVER… there are a few issues. They continue changing their «formula» and depending on the time that they come by, you will be bitten. Second, and this is the BIG one. We have two dogs. When the people from Mosquito Sqaud come by, they are responsible for closing the gate after them, but the last TWO times they came, the gate wasn’t closed and each time they were on different sides of our yard. We have no had our dog get out after their visits on two occasions. We live less than a mile from the Beltway and this isnt’ something that I feel is acceptable at all. It’s not a lot to ask: just put things back the way they were after you’re done.
