Similar to a Thai or Shiatsu massage. The massage was Asian style (I’m Asian), in that its purpose was more for traditional medical healing rather than in-​the moment relaxation. This means lots of heavy kneading and pressing accupressure points. Obviously not everyone’s style, but if you go into it knowing you’ll get a work out, you might appreciate this ancient therapy. As some posters mentioned, wear loose clothing, and don’t expect a whole lot of privacy.

Went because I found a groupon. Very kind staff! Had a nice conversation with my masseuse! Might give you a discount if you’re a regular, will definitely go in for another massage.

Loved it! The people giving the bad reviews just aren’t used to a real massage. I get one once a week… but first time here!!! He stretched me, bended me, knelt on me, it was amazing!!!

I wonder why others didn’t see feel or appreciate this massage– no frills yes but the 10 or more times I’ve been here have been therapeutic — if you have ever been to Asia — this is the standard that I’ve received in Thailand and Singapore. Minimal privacy but who cares? Wear loose fitting clothes and get ready for true reflexology and a deep tissue massage — do $ 75 minutes with the owner and you will leave pretty amazed. Start with reflexology and then full body.
About $ 90 depending on if you feel generous — I’d say he deserved the $ 20 tip.

This was the worst massage experience of my whole life. I took my mother out for a massage after a stressful week. I called in beforehand to ensure that we could have the massages together. They are a team of three people and no one speaks English or understands at least a little bit. When i called I eventually gave up and hoped that somehow there would be two available spots. They started with the reflexology, which was incredibly painful and not at all relaxing. I am Asian myself but honestly if you run a massage business you just have to at least know a few English words to be able to communicate and ask your customer if they are in pain. There were a few moments where I just had to forget my politeness and scream «NO. That HURTS!» so that she would stop. For the Swedish massage they mainly used their elbows and for some reason focused not on the muscles but actually on the bones! At some point I thought I would be end up in a wheelchair. Honestly, this is my first Unilocal review and I am only doing this to warn people: If you love your mother and yourself — do not go there!
When we had just started a guy came in asking for a massage and they told him in broken English that he would have to wait 30 minutes. After an hour he left upset saying that they lied. They tried to hold him there saying «hold on, hold on!» — this place is a disgrace. Just the fact that I as a customer have to see this is just unprofessional. In general, there was no privacy and they never asked if the strength of massage was ok. We left frustrated but relieved that we actually survived this torture. At the wall behind the counter are specific certifications for acupuncture and other massage techniques. However, not all of the employees obviously have these skills. I wonder if maybe the good Unilocal reviews can be explained by that. Maybe only the manager is actually qualified to do this sort of massage?
At the end, I already wanted to leave a small tip out of courtesy and being polite… However, before I even mentioned it the three of them jumped at me and insisted to get a tip. I might be old fashioned but to ask for a tip and consider it granted is just rude and unprofessional. My mom left on her flight a few hours later and I felt bad because I made her go through this terrible experience. Never again. Please stay away from that Groupon deal.

For a no frills massage and reflexology this is the place to go in DC. The staff was friendly and I left relaxed. I would definitely go back.

I’ve always wondered how long I’d last under extreme interrogation — the answer is 60 minutes. After an hour of these guys playing origami with my appendages, I was ready to scream apologies for America’s meddling in Indochina. The timer rang like the chopping propeller blades of a Blackhawk rescue mission.

I came here because I had a Groupon, and it was in the neighborhood, and I really wish I didn’t. This was the worst massage experience in my life by a mile. I called ahead and asked whether I would be able to get a masseuse, they said that I would. I got there, and there was only one masseuse and she was already working on someone else. On top of that, every other massage I have ever gotten had an element of privacy; not here. The massage tables were maybe a foot apart from each other. I also have always had the option to be clothed to my level of comfort. Not here. I had to do this with my clothes on. But none of this was what led to the one star rating.
I went ahead and agreed to let a masseur work on me. The first ten minutes of my «massage» they had me sit in a recliner and dunked my feet in a tub of green tea while the guy half heartedly rubbed my feet. Then they reclined the chair, and they guy rubbed vaseline on my feet and proceeded to use his knuckles and nails to cause as much pain as he could. I have a pretty high threshold for pain, and this guy worked every bit of my foot, either with his knuckles or by digging his nails in and scratching me until it was obvious on my face that i was in pain. I just wanted it to be over.
Then they have me lay down on the table and he proceeded to massage me using almost entirely his elbows, continuing with the theme of pain. I kid you not, I have a bruise on my back from this «massage.» Other highlights from the massage portion was pinching me with his entire hand, and putting his fingers in my ears like her were trying to give me a dry wet willy. It was awful!
The icing on the cake was after the hour of torture, they guilt tripped me into tipping the guy even though his service was truly horrible. STAY AWAY. And the guy that massaged me would be better served working as an interrogator or a prison guard at Guantanamo. I cannot stress how terrible this experience was. They may have cheap prices, but do yourself a favor and stay the f*ck away

I’ve been in many massage places. My left leg had always been bothering me, but this place has definitely made it a lot better. The place is very professional, provides the best service, and also a reasonable price! Steven, who is the boss, gave me the massage, very skillful. My leg is basically functioning as normal right now. Definitely a great place for young professionals who are stressed out at work!

I had a fully loaded spring semester this spring. My back been hurting so badly. Thus, I was thinking of going to a massage place. A friend of mine referred me the place. Steven was my massage therapist. He was so nice and professional. My back is not hurting any more. I deff would recommend my friends go to the place if they need to relax their body.

I had a moment of envy when the dude before me had this moment of major realization (or an orgasm) as he described Steve’s reflexology skills.
While whoever it was worked on my tired feet was pretty good — my reaction was nothing close to the ecstasy that orgasm-​dude had.
But for $ 45 for 45-​ish minutes, I wasn’t complaining either.
