Whole Foods Market

Let me preface this by saying I love animals. Anyone who knows me knows that. But, I was at Whole Foods tonight and someone had their dog here (not a service animal). It wasn’t in their purse/​bag and it wasn’t on the ground. They had it sitting at a table where many other people were eating and it was eating off the table. I admit to doing this in my own house, what can I say, I’m a sucker for a cute face, but when you’re at a restaurant or serve food, that is not appealing to see. We complained three times (including to a «manager» [lies] named Tammy) and each time we were told/​promised that it was a service dog (it wasn’t — by designation or action) or that they were handling it (they didn’t). I’ve shopped here for years, but can’t see myself returning. Shame on you, Whole Foods! Shame on «Tammy»

This store is my go-​to for a substantial lunch after a study session at Starbucks. The dining area here is nothing special, but hey, at least you can watch the Patriots get slaughtered by the Eagles on the TV. This store is medium-​sized — it’s not as big or modern-​looking as the P Street store. The product selection is what you would expect. My tofu was a bit more firm than usual. ⁸⁄₁₀ overall.

This location is convenient when have errands in Georgetown. The staffers are friendly. I could spend three hours just looking at all of the interesting items on the shelves.
The store has a coupon booklet. You can also look up coupons online. There are cooking classes, tasting nights and events throughout the year. The stores have different inventory. If I can’t find something at this store, I can drive down the street to the next one. There are four Whole Foods stores within a few miles of each other.
The produce selection is usually pretty decent, but it isn’t perfect. Sometimes the cucumbers are better quality (and cheaper) at Aldi. The c heese choices are amazing. The employees are nice about sharing samples when I can’t make up my mind.
Parking is free. My only «issue» with this store is something Whole Foods probably isn’t in charge of: getting out of the parking garage and returning to Wisconsin Avenue. You have to wait for a red light while going uphill. The exit/​entrance is small and you are in competition with pedestrians wanting to cross directly in front of you and across the street. Not all drivers are careful and I am always relieved when I have safely navigated out of that area. It won’t prevent me from getting my tofu on, but I am always extra cautious when driving away.

Shout out to Babel for helping me with beer and cheese! Also to the super friendly guy working in the meat department tonight– I can’t wait to come back for some dry aged steaks! :) Everyone here has been so sweet and helpful. With sale items and 365, the prices are on par with other grocery stores, but I trust the quality here more. Also, free parking!

This is the Whole Foods I usually shop at in DC. it’s conveniently located near my father’s house. I like the selection of groceries and produce here as well as friendly staff. Also unlike the stores I go to in New York they have a nice selection of wine and even an in-​store chiller.

Whole foods in major cities are usually my favorite to shop at. I had high expectations for this one since its in the Capitol. Honestly I was a little disappointed. It was your average sized whole foods and nowhere near as good as the ones in Philadelphia and Los Angeles and even Cleveland. I went there looking for my halo top ice cream which is scarce where I live. I was disappointed that they only had 4 plain flavors. The bakery and hot food bar seemed okay but nothing special. They had a parking lot and parking was free so that’s a plus.

Rating the beer selection only.
Modeled after the two-​story, underground WFM you’ll find in Union Square NYC. Beer selection is a little annoying. Downstairs is where most of the beer is, but the size of the selection is pretty small. I did find things like new DFH 750mL releases, Dupont ciders, Flying Dog In de Wildeman, single bottles of weird stuff I’d never heard of. Prices are a little steep. About $ 4.99 for a single can of Ten Fidy and $ 12 for Stillwater Cellar Door 750mL. But then as you check out upstairs there is a bit more beer but it is not duplicated so there are more six packs up there absent from downstairs. You can also find the WFM exclusive beers that someone contract brews for them. They are cheap, but tasteless.

What happened here? Fruit was similar to Safeway in the 70’s. Out of Neals Yard cheeses. Don’t have Irene’s cheese blintzes. Definitely worth the trip to Balducci if you want fine food and go to Wegmans for a clean well stocked market. Hole paycheck part real.

Nice place, great employees who are always willing to find an item or a price — and do so with a smile. Love the quick check out lane; more places should copy the model. Prices tend to be Whole Foods high, but you know that going in. There’s a few pretentious aspects to the store (c’mon would it kill you to stock a known brand?), and the interior is a rabbit warren, but the quality of the products are top notch.
I’d give this more stars, but something they do here concerns me: the open displays of cookies and other unwrapped bakery items, and the «sample» trays that have no toothpicks. I saw a sample tray of melon just left out with no tongs, picks or napkins, so customers were reaching in and rooting around with their bare fingers. The open cookie and sweets displays are a health disaster waiting to happen, as are the uncovered trays of food in the salad and hot food bars.

This review is for Darnell, who works in the meat department. He knows his stuff. If you don’t see what you want, he will find it or an even better option (ever heard of flap skirt steak? Way better than regular skirt steak). He is patient, friendly, and courteous to regulars like me and also to the less regular.
That said, at least 3 other Whole Foods employees today were wearing their pants very low. I saw 3 separate adult butt cracks, which, I think, is mildly offensive in a grocery store. Hope they work on that.

One of the best Whole Foods in the D.C. area. The Whole Foods on P Street and the one in Friendship Heights are a bit bigger, but this one is big for being in the heart of Glover Park just a mile from Georgetown. Free delivery to your house on anything in a 1.5 mile radius. What can I say its Whole Foods — fresh organic meat, juices, produce, and all kinds of food higher in quality than any grocery store in the USA. You know the deal.

I used to go to Safeway all the time, but that was less convenient distance wise. So I started going to Whole Foods. I like Whole Foods a lot, however there are two things that will still make me go to Safeway on occasion.
1. The prices are higher, not exorbitantly higher, but enough so that you notice the difference.
2. They are always obscenely busy. As the only Whole Foods in this area, EVERYONE shops here. This means it is busy at any time of day.
I would not recommend going on the weekend, especially after 11AM, you can barely move, the lines are atrociously long and everyone is really tense. Not how I want to spend my day off.
The employees are pleasant, their main focus is on getting people through the line as fast as possible and they will yell at you in order to keep the line moving.
My fellow patrons in Whole Foods are often quite rude. I have had my cart rammed, people squeeze between my cart and a product, while I am looking at the product, paths blocked by Little Old Ladies (LOL) while they pick out the best fruit.
Really its just too crowded and the people that go here are too stressed (politicians, lawyers, doctors). I like the quality of grocery products however they are often completely out of what I came for such as organic strawberries.
I highly recommend their KIND chocolate/​nut bars located in the 15 min checkout line. The peanut butter chocolate is the best.

I also really appreciate Whole Food’s unparalleled commitment to fair trade, animal welfare, sustainability, and healthy living. Grocery competitors– Harris Teeter/​Kroger, Fresh Market, Food Lion, even Trader Joe’s– they can’t come close to Whole Foods in these important areas. So I hope Whole Foods keeps expanding, especially in and around DC.

Must be the summer. Went to the store and a couple of mouse were frolicking in the fruits and vegetable section from one side to the other. Several of us saw it and reported it to one of the persons that was setting the fruit.
Not really his highest priority I guess. DC Inspectors!!! Where are you???

The closest Whole Foods to my home is the Clarendon one; this Whole Foods is closest to my work. I actually prefer going to this one. Despite being in DC, the parking situation is better than the VA one. I love their food bar, and come here during my lunch hour even if not to pick up groceries. There is usually ample seating to enjoy my food. They have a great selection, and even when busy, it doesn’t come off as chaotic like the Clarendon store.
They have a nice separate section for body/​health goods towards the front of the store. I like browsing there after I eat since it’s next to the seating area, but it’s weird that once you select your purchases, you have to walk back towards the registers to pay instead of a register being right there.

This Whole Foods is just around the corner from me, so it is definitely convenient! I came here to get some treats and their bakery section definitely offers a variety (cookies, brownies, tarts, croissants, etc.), as well as a comparable bread section. They have your cheeses, your meats, the hot food, the salad/​hot food bar, wine, pastas, and fresh produce. Everything was neatly organized and clean, and there were plenty of staff available for any questions and such. I like that they have an underground parking available for the customers.

This Whole Foods is smaller than most and does not have the variety of specialty dairy and gluten free items I need — which has forced me to also go to the bigger Safeway down the street.
I do appreciate the express line checkout, it’s super convenient when you are grabbing a few quick items.
The cheese section was smaller than I am used to and was more confusing than others.

I went to this Whole Foods location for Wine Down Wednesday one week deviating from my usual Foggy Bottom location. Comparing it to Foggy Bottom’s Wine Down, it was a lot less crowded, the stations were spaced further apart and it was a different atmosphere. Here the staff spent time describing the type of wine and what the small plate of food was that we’d be tasting. At Foggy Bottom, perhaps because it is so much more crowded, they don’t describe the type of wine or what the food is that you’ll be tasting. It was nice to try Wine Down at a different location, but I’ll continue to go to the Foggy Bottom one just due to the fact that is Metro accessible, whereas to get to the Georgetown Whole Foods location I needed to take the Metro and then transfer to a bus.

Pretty good as WFs go; I was going to give them a 4, but for two things. One, the Social Safeway down the street is bigger and better. Two, their checkout area is confusing and lines move slowly, and they recently made it worse rather than better.
They have a deep underground parking garage with employees constantly watching to make sure you don’t walk off. Free parking in this neighborhood is worth something though. The garage has murals by the local Fillmore Arts camp; big plus for that.

This whole foods saved us from a prosecco shortage. As in, we’d drank 8 bottles and needed more (what? There were 15 of us.) We ran down to whole foods in the 90 degree DC heat, working up what you can imagine was a powerful thirst.
We get there and are amazed at the number of sparkling wines. Now, having gone to the WFM in Austin (the mothership) I knew that they’d have some selection but we were greeted by a whole end-​cap of the fizzy stuff ranging from $ 7 to $ 50.
We grabbed some on the lower end of that spectrum — threw in some bandaids for good measure and sniffed the beauty bar — and then headed back up the hill for some bubbly goodness. Not bad Whole Foods, not bad at all.
