This place is really good. Their breakfast sandwiches are good and they have options for people like me who don’t eat pork. I get a turkey bacon, egg, and cheese croissant almost everyday on my way to work. Their prices are decent. Just make sure you check your egg before they leave. Sometimes they’ll rush and it won’t be cooked all the way through. I also wish they toasted their croissants, but overall it’s a great place. The staff is really friendly too.

Finally, a pizza place that reminds me of home! A nice big thin slice of pizza that reminds me of NYC. Well done guys, it is simple and I will be returning. Nuff said. Lunch special $ 7.95 for 2 big slices and a medium drink. Kudos all!
UPDATE: Came back for lunch and got the spinach feta and mushroom pizza. HOLY GOD it was amazing, that is my go to, please do not take that off the menu! I just wish you guys were open on weekends or past 5pm because my weekend nights would be so much better if I could get a late night bite of some Long Island Style pizza! Well done!

I work for a company in Falls Church that does a lot of business meetings in D.C. Jim is amazing at making my order to perfection and delivering on time. The selection is great and perfect options for small to mid-​level business meetings. I really appreciate the responsiveness and dedication to making sure our order is correct every time. I would highly recommend Washington Deli for business meetings and your next catering event.

I wanted to really enjoy my pizza after reading the wonderful reviews on Unilocal.Well… I was seriously disappointed. The pizza that I chose was Meatlovers and Sausage with peppers and onions. Sounds delish, right?! Wrong… the meat was dry and had a weird look to it. The crust underneath each slice was burnt. Sigh!!! Never again. Sorry!!!

Really excited to find a pizza place in DC that would deliver for my lunch meeting. The pizza was great, still hot and the cheese was gooey. I typically order lunch a few hours in advance of our meetings as a courtesy, but sometimes that means your pizza is made too early and it sits around and gets gross and cold, these pizzas DID NOT have that problem! The slices were pretty large so I might ask for double cut next time I’m feeding a group. My office has decided this is our new go-​to instead of the place across the street.

Awesome pizza. Not as good as New York pizza, but above average for dc. Generously portioned salads. Not fancy, but lots of options for toppings and for an extra dollar, they will throw on a healthy portion of protein. I find it a better value than the fancy salad stores.

We use Washington Deli for boxed lunches for a school trip. The food is great — so is the selection. The prices are very reasonable. They deliver to wherever you are — they drove to where our bus is parked. The service is excellent — Jim helps us from start to finish and I couldn’t be happier.

There must have been something wrong today. After reading the raving reviews here I decided to order a pizza from the Washington Deli. I picked up my Classic Margherita pie and walked back to the office to share with my coworkers. When I Opened the box I was surprised to see a huge pizza with tons of sauce and hardly any cheese. I know that a typical Margherita pie would have some of the sauce exposed since the cheese is applied in balls (or large sliced up balls) and therefore leaves some space between coverage. This was not the case. There was so little cheese! If this was my business I would not have let that pie leave my store. Where they out of Buffalo Mozzarella cheese?
The sauce was so sweet and thickly applied that it was overwhelming. Rather one dimensional and lacking any type of bite. Needed some wine, some spice, some garlic, something to balance out the sweetness.
The crust is really good and it’s the only thing stopping me from posting a 1 star review. Solid flavor, great texture, and just the right thickness. Too bad the pizza was so bad.
$ 22 and change for a trip to the trash can. Only 2 slices were even removed from the box here at the office.

There are two food items DC fails at: Pizza and Bagels. Washington Deli gets it half right with their pizza which is the closest thing you will find to NY style in the district. The owners are from Long Island so I imagine that helps. They’ve mastered the crust recipe and it shows. My favorite slice is the meat lovers, but you really can’t go wrong with any of their pizzas. They also cater, which is nice because I hate ordering from dominoes.

At first I had an over-​cooked, dry gyro platter that I did not enjoy at all as it barely had any flavors. Came back a second time and tried their pizza — 2 large slices with a fountain drink. The crust was thin and surprisingly good, would go well with a dipping sauce on the side perhaps.

I am such a pizza snob. If it’s not New York style I’d rather eat something else. Chicago’s version is pot pie. Washington Deli makes the best pies I’ve had in this city bar none.
I don’t even live in DC anymore-​far from it, but every time I am visiting the parents I make my dad stop here and grab a whole pie. Yes their lunch deal is super cheap for a slice or two and a soda but I can’t get it often so I go all in. One would assume Fort Lauderdale would have a few retired pizza bakers from NY but I have yet to find one. All of the best bakers swear it’s gross city water that makes the crust taste as awesome as it does-​and if DC and NYC share one thing in common, it’s gross water. Just look at the Anacostia.
I digress. This place has delicious, foldable slices that even as I’m sitting 1000 miles away writing this I’m craving. Best part is if I remember correctly it’s next to the sports club… ha diet killer!

Excellent crust (not too thick) for foldable slices. A wide variety of topping choices (I love their Margerita and Veggie pies) with savory, slightly sweet sauce – yummy! I ordered a bunch of pies for an office party, and was not disappointed. I’ll definitely be ordering from Washington Deli again.

Quick and easy place for a slice of pizza. Easygoing and friendly staff. Plenty of choices and options to keep it interesting. Great for lunch.

I love Washington Deli! Had to place a catering order for 80 people in a federal agency building and they did an exceptional job! Very quick in their responses and easy to work with. The catering menu is awesome. The box lunches were quick, easy, and a crowd-​pleaser. Breakfast menu is also great. I would totally recommend them!

Alrighty my fellow Unilocalers, another pizza review.
I had to check this place out since I had a craving for pizza again. I ordered a slice of BBQ chicken pizza and the spinach/​mushroom Alfredo pizza. Both slices tasted good, crispy crust but a soft middle interior. I was a bit skeptical about ordering since the slices are already made but the taste and the deal (2 slices and a medium drink for only $ 7, WINNING!!) but I was satisfied nonetheless. I’ll have to stop by and get their other slices and perhaps even try their sandwiches.
Those idiots giving this place a bad review are very likely exaggerating what went wrong. It’s good pizza, if you’re not a fan you can eat at dominos with all those other negative pizza punks!

I soooo wanted to like the Washington Deli when I first walked by it. Growing up in Jersey and working in Manhattan early in my career, I appreciate a good deli and it looked legit. My litmus test for a deli is to ask how rare their roast beef is. It was late in the day, so they must have prematurely put everything away, but I was shown a hunk of perfectly pink roast beef wrapped in plastic wrap, so I ordered up a roast beef sandwich on a kaiser roll with provolone, mayo and lettuce.
Then the illusion was shattered. After unwrapping the roast beef, it turns out it was pre-​sliced despite there being a deli slicer right behind them. Next, no kaiser rolls only challah, but I can live with that. They wrap my sandwich up and I head to the register. It turned out to be pricier than I expected as the prices were higher than on the take out menu I had grabbed the day before: $ 5.45 for the base sandwich, $ 1.00 for a roll, $ 0.75. Food prices are rising — I get it – but the same sandwich would be $ 5.95 according to the take out menu, so time to throw away the old menus. With a can of soda and small bag of chips, it came to over $ 10.
Still optimistic about my meal, I got back to my desk and was disappointed by the first bite. The roast beef was bland and almost had a plastic texture to it despite its rosy hue. The roll was dry and a tad stale, causing me to cough on a bite until I could wash it down with my soda. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t as good as I expected, which may be because of my own preconceived notions. I’ve had better roast beef at Jersey Mike’s where they roast it themselves and slice it to order, not to mention make their own bread.
Despite my experience, I still want to like Washington Deli, so perhaps I’ll try again with one of their specialty sandwiches, pizzas or salads. I applaud them for having variety like the «Lefty Driesell» with sliced turkey, Munster, Russian dressing and cole slaw, which is something you can’t find at Subway. Their pizzas by the slice (an important sign of a good pizza place) looked good and the salad ingredients looked fresh.

Every month or so, I order our office lunch from here. They are always extremely accommodating and friendly, even when I put in a last minute order. Everything’s always so easy-it’s so nice being able to order online and have it delivered to the office without a hassle. They’re always early, which makes my life much easier. The best part? They’re so reasonably priced!
Today, the new company credit card I used to order with online didn’t work, and Jim, the owner, was so patient and understanding as I got to work and called with another one. Definitely the best catering deli in DC!

I had a groupon for this place. The meatball pizza was good and so was the «white pizza». As others have mentioned – yes it is greasy – but not any greasier than most pizza. I like how you can see the pizzas at the register so you can see what you are getting. Staff was friendly but efficient. They seemed confused by my groupon but figured it out eventually.
Worst thing about this place is the hours. They close at 5pm during the week and website claims they are open from 9 – 3 «Some Saturdays». I called 6 or 7 Saturdays in a row to see if they were open and every time it went to vm. If you are reading this and considering buying the groupon, don’t do it you work a normal 9 – 5 because you’ll never get to use it. I wish they were more transparent about this upfront.
If this was open later I would definitely return.

Dropped by for a quick take-​out lunch while walking from a meeting back to the nearby K Street parking garage. I ordered the Rocky Balboa, which is basically a chicken Philly with the meat cut a little differently. The veg was fresh and al dente, the chicken was flavorful and tender, and the cheese and other toppings were all applied in just the right amount. Even though the sandwich was rolled up and carried down the street and eaten in the car 10 minutes later, it was still hot but not soggy. It was really good, though the sandwich roll was pretty small for the price (but that’s D.C. for ya) and they didn’t offer me that specific sandwich on any wheat bun or anything.
The place seemed busy, and they were relatively fast. Washington Deli also has a salad/​fruit bar and a pizza bar downstairs where you can order by the slice. The pizza looked REALLY good. I might have to stop in and try it sometime.

I actually work in the building where Washington Deli is located. I bought the Groupon a couple weeks ago. The deal is you pay $ 5 and get 2 pieces of pizza, a cookie and a large drink. You had to buy two of them, but not only did I have $ 10 in Groupon credit (perfect!), I figured $ 10 for two lunches in DC is such a steal that I couldn’t go wrong.
Boy, was I wrong. Blah. After the pizza I got today, I can’t say I’ll be back. I got a slice of white and a slice of fresh basil. The pieces were huge, but greasy. Maybe the greasiest pizza I’ve ever had. I blotted each slice with a paper towel prior to eating, and it was like the grease just spread and multiplied under the paper towel. I got as much off as I could and took a bite… ick. The crust was barely crust at all. It was soggy and limp. The toppings seemed adequate, but the pizza was so bad… I only took a couple bites of each, willing it to taste better. Alas, it did not. And into the garbage they go. I wish I had my Groupon credit back.
