Business Owner

I founded Wanderpups because I like dogs, the outdoors and walking. I grew up surrounded by animals and have missed not having them around for much of my adult life. Since moving to DC nine years ago, I’ve gotten my dog fix by fostering through local organizations and volunteering.

My other interests include nutrition, exercise and writing. My vices are coffee, plane tickets and aimless wandering. I graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2004 and was a logistics officer in the Air Force for seven years. I still serve in the reserves because, well, I love America.

I have a special place in my heart for rescue dogs so I will donate $ 1 earned from every walk to a local rescue organization. It’s really hard to give back with limited time and resources, but this is my attempt to make a difference.

I can’t speak more highly of Mel and her team. Mel is always super responsive, willing to work with her clients to do what best suits their animal’s needs, and she hires great people. They’re reliable and will care for your pet like its their own. Highly highly recommend Wanderpups.

Wanderpups was a wonderful & reliable service that I would highly recommend to anyone. Mel was incredibly responsive and patient when my schedule & needs varied. While Mel and her team gave my elderly dog great care – what struck me the most is how Mel handled everything after my dog passed away. She sent me an incredibly thoughtful email, had the dog walking keys seamlessly delivered back to my home AND wrote me a condolence letter in the days following. I think it says a lot about the business being run when Mel takes such care after you’re no longer able to be a client.

Melonie goes above and beyond the call of duty. I couldn’t ask for a better person to care for my dog. She follows instructions and makes scheduling a breeze. If anything is off or my dog is sick, she is in contact right away. She’s 100% reliable and always on time. She offers jogs with your dog too and even does in home sitting. I completely trust Mel and her team.

We did not want to board our dog for the holidays and found Mel’s ad in the Hill Rag. I called the number and Mel came over to meet our dog. He took to her immediately. If you are a pet owner and want to be assured that your pet will be loved and cared for while you are away, you can rest assured. Mel took such great care of him that he has attempted to follow them home when we see them at the park. We highly recommend Mel and we will definitely use her in the future.

I have a fairly timid former feral cat who takes a while to warm up to people. I found Mel prior to an extended holiday vacation and she was extremely reasonable and accommodating. She took care of our little guy for the entirety of our vacation and sent pictures of him warming up to her. Impressive. As long as Mel is around, we won’t be using another cat sitter.

Mel is incredibly reasonable, accommodating and reliable – even on last minute trips, she’s fit us into her schedule.
