Wagner’s Liquor & Wine

Wagner’s gets four stars for its rock solid selection of MD ²⁰⁄₂₀. I recommend the red wine flavor if you’re seeking a housewarming gift or something classy to impress the ladies. The reason Wagner’s gets only four stars is that their selection of cigarettes is limited and out of stock sometimes. So you might have to pit-​stop at 7-​Eleven on the way home for a pack of Newports.

I went to Wagner’s to get a rather uncommon German beer keg, and was happy they could order me one for my home bar. When I came and hooked it up to my bar, the thing was just spewing foam and after trying various things to balance the keg it was doing the same thing. I called Wagner’s, and they gave me the run around for a couple of days thinking I must be some guy who didn’t know what I was doing, but based on my experience with kegs at home I knew this was a rare case of a bad keg (bad seal, stem or overcarbonation… it does happen sometimes), and was persistent.
The owner of Wagners wanted to work with me asked the distributor if they would just exchange the keg and they said no (wow, how about that for service), however the owner of Wagners exchanged it for me for a beer of similar value. Was it the most desired outcome? No, but the owner did the right thing for a customer and took a hit on the keg. I value that, and will return to this store. Btw, they have a huge keg list so you home bar freaks like me should definitely swing by and see what they can order for you

This place is GREAT! I came up to DC for my birthday and was looking for a liquor store that had variety… Wagner’s exceeded my expectations! One of the guys working overheard it was my birthday so he gave me a discount. A++++ on customer service

This is one of three liquor stores I use, buying most of my spirits here. The prices stand up to comparisons favorably, they are close to my home, and they are the only place I’ve found offering a clear crème de cacao (everyone else sells black… perhaps those people don’t make grasshoppers?) Ha! You’ll do OK here.

It was the day before St. Patrick’s Day and I needed Guinness and Bailey’s but not for Irish Carbombs. If not Irish Car Bombs, then for what, you might be wondering?
For cupcakes, of course! Guinness cupcakes and Bailey’s cream cheese frosting were on the menu and I stopped here on my way back from running other errands. The two guys manning the store didn’t seem too interested in helping me but did point me to the Bailey’s and let me know that the larger bottles were on sale.
I ended up with 4-​pack of Guinness and decided to get the 4-​pack of mini Bailey’s also. While looking around, I noted their excellent selection of liquors and their modest wine section. The prices were pretty typical of what you’d find elsewhere so at least you know you’re not being ripped off.
A few minutes later, I was carded, rang up, paid my fare and shoved the items in my gym bag (because I try to avoid the DC bag tax as much as possible) and was on my way. I wouldn’t make a special trip here as I can find these items in stores much closer to where I live but it’s a decent spot if you’re in the area.

It was a Friday night, and I was looking to pick up a bottle of wine at Safeway after work to sip on throughout the evening. I got to Safeway and — disaster. The wine and beer aisles were barricaded, citing a temporary problem with their liquor license and no alcohol would be sold that day. Ahh! I wasn’t going to walk back up Wisconsin Ave to Whole Foods or Wide World of Wines. I remembered Wagner’s being just a short block away, so I headed there.
I was actually very surprised walking into Wagner’s. Being near Georgetown campus (and advertising themselves as DC’s #1 Keg Headquarters), I’d been expecting the typical college-​y liquor store — mostly hard liquor and beer. But they had a surprisingly extensive selection of wines. Most were a dollar or two over the price at Safeway, but it wasn’t too bad. Plus they carry Strongbow, which is kind of my litmus test for whether or not a liquor store is up to my standards. All in all, a thumbs-​up.

I got a bottle of Pierre Ferrand Cognac here about $ 20 cheaper than I have seen it elsewhere.
Also quite possibly the finest collection of blue collar American beers I have ever seen — PBR, Natural Light, Miller High Life — all the good stuff. I guess those Hoya Freshman aren’t into the real ales.

It was the height of our sophomore year Glory Days, and if you were a minor, Wagner’s was the friendliest liquor shop in town. I needed to impress a girl with a bottle of wine, and I was underage: Wagner’s Liquor would help me.
The plan was to get in there, act natural, pretend to know something about wine, and then hope that they took my fake ID. The selection of wine was a bit intimidating, but I concealed my nerves by asking a lot of pompous questions about the difference between Chilean and Argentine wine, and challenging the attendant on his recommendation. In the end, I decided to go with a boxed wine, for added value, and there were no questions asked.
This store has a friendly, neighborhood feel to it which will keep you coming back. The last time my roommates and I bought a keg here, we got a free sample of something called «Zygo Energy Vodka», a blend of Vodka and Hierba Mate.
