W Washington D.C.

My wife and I got in late last night from California to check in. Went downstairs to grab breakfast this am and was turned away for breakfast by a somewhat rude/​impartial lady who said I was too late for breakfast. I replied, «ok, no problem, when do you guys close for breakfast? She replied, «10:30». I then asked if I could get lunch. She said, «No, that doesn’t open till 11:30» I then asked for any recommendations since I’m not from here and she seemed annoyed to give me suggestions. After I got a few suggestions I walked outside, looked at my phone and it was 10:30… Super lame to stay at the whatever /​whenever for the 5^th or 6^th time and to have been treated way better at a Marriott.

It looked really cool inside and we were there for a party up on the roof, however there is apparently a very strict dress code even if you are a vip guest of WuTang clan members. So, bounced we were and party I did not. Thanks for nothing W. I drove 12+ hours to get to DC and this was a last minute party. I didn’t know I had to pack formal/​dressy clothes.

I LOVED my stay at the W. Some girlfriends and I stayed here over the weekend and were greeted to complementary champagne and a club atmosphere with an amazing DJ when we checked in. There was a wedding party going on, so I am not sure that is normal, but it was AWESOME! The customer service is some of the best I have experienced anywhere. We had a person grab our bags when I checked in at valet and take them up to our room for us and then hold them for us the next morning when we went for brunch. Seriously, so helpful!
The room was spacious and modern. The mini bar was nicely stocked and it was very convenient to have a downstairs bar in addition to the rooftop bar everyone seems to know and love. We even met Method Man who was staying here over the weekend (he’s super nice btw). Seriously, the W is a really great place and I would gladly stay here again!

The location is great for sight-​seeing, and the area feels safe. The rooms are okay; it was nice to have a fridge and the bed was really comfortable. Guests may also appreciate free bottled water, although a refill station in the lobby would be more eco-​friendly (so many plastic bottles!).
Monica at the front desk checked us in, she is wonderful! Throughout our stay she made us feel welcome with her friendly attitude and her helpful advice. She helped to make our view of the W Hotel a positive one. Thanks Monica!

W Roof top bar is a must! Swanky cocktails served with a view. Expensive but worth it no matter what day or the weather.
This latest night soirée marks my 5^th time to the W and each experience has been predictable in the best way.
Efficient bar staff, knowledgeable and kind.
The mood, the vibe the views– it all works.

Hotel was a real let down except for the location… ***do not leave valuable in your car***
2 pairs of expensive sunglasses were stolen from my car… These were prescription sunglasses that i mainly use for driving so I always keep them in my car and I was afraid of loosing them. They force you to valet park your car and because i always leave them in my vehicle at all times, i handed my car over to vallet and they were gone the next day. I was only there one night and we didn’t stray far from the hotel so it wasn’t like i could have left them anywhere! And of course the vallet had no idea what I was talking about… ‘This has never happened before’ Then the receptionist in the lobby was even worse… she pretended to care and said she would email the general manager right away… Yea right! One pair would have been an over sight but 2? A thousand dollars — gone!

We’re actually staying at the W now, in our little, tiny, tiny room that has the sink in the room and just a tiny little room that contains a toilet and a frosted glass shower. I understand it’s an old property, but these rooms would be unacceptable to many people. Not enough electrical outlets. There is nowhere to put your stuff. They cluttered up the bathroom counter with the mini bar (stacks of food on the counter). Even with every light on bright, this room feels dark and cave like.
Loud music playing in the lobby and elevators at all times.
I made reservations several days ahead with the concierge, Kimberly, to have a table reserved on the rail at POV. I explained we were just coming for drinks, but our guest (also a hotel guest) is a 94 year old WW2 vet and we want to be sure we have a wonderful view for him. I added we would only be there 1 – 1.5 hours. She was lovely, returned my call and assured me she understood and we would have a reserved table on the roof with a wonderful view. We went up there as soon as we arrived to be sure we had a great spot and they said they can’t guaranteed a table. I gave them the name of the concierge I spoke with. The result of this was «We’ll try». Went back to our room and had 2 lengthy conversations with the Concierge on duty. FINALLY, he said we had a table. Nothing WONDERFUL about that service. The really annoying thing was when we were there that evening, we realized there were all kinds of empty tables. MANY of them, so they didn’t even need to hassle us like that.
They did put a coffee maker in our room, which we appreciated.

So, my favorite rooftop spot so far! It’s not too far from the White House, it’s in the heart of downtown DC. We tried to go to the Hamilton but it was too crowded so we hopped down the street on my friend’s suggestion. We circled the top at first, but it was super crowded. One of my friends asked the hostess for an empty table, and she told us that there was a $ 40. We had an awesome table right in the center of the rooftop action! Our server was very attentive without being annoying or stifling. One of my friends ordered the Strawberry Lemonade, which she said was delicious; my other friend and I had a simple glass of wine.
I wasn’t super hungry, so my friend and I shared a pepperoni pizza. It had these weird sweet pepper things on it, so we both picked it off. It was $ 16 for a 4-​slice personal pizza; this is why this place only got 4 stars instead of 5 lol. You’ve got to be kidding me, it was so small! But it was reallllllly good, so I guess we were just paying for the location. Once the sunlight dimmed, they came around and brought a nice candle to illuminate our table. I’m definitely going to return here with my boo for sure!

Worst hotel in DC. Stay away. Poor management! horrible crowd

Convenient location, could see the White House from rooftop.

Very good hotel! At the center of Washington, D.C. A corner away from the White House. When checking in the host didn’t look like she was pleased to be serving us but the rest of the staff was very nice. Also, all major and lower end stores all around the hotel. Marshal was a corner away, Hm down the line, Macy’s, banana republic. Etc! Also, many restaurants around as well. Next time in Washington, DC will be staying at the same hotel.

This review encompasses my thoughts on POV (their rooftop bar), Pinea (restaurant), and the W hotel itself all in one.
POV — very classy rooftop bar overlooking the city/​White House. I’ve been here a few times and have always had a great time. Good music. There are two rooms with one main room that has the dance floor. Cocktails are pricey, too sweet, and are low in alcohol content. The people here are usually in their late 20s/​early 30s. The first time I went, there were a lot of old couples (weird!).
Pinea — food sucks. Period. Definitely not worth what I paid for. Don’t come here esp when there are so many other great DC restaurant options. I got the risotto and mussels and both were bland.
Hotel — Absolutely in love with the interior design of the hotel, both throughout the hotel as well as in the room. Was here for two nights and room service was prompt. Was sad to see that there was no bathtub. Great location and I loved my stay.

You cannot beat the location and service of this hotel. Both are outstanding. The room itself is well appointed and, like most W’s, has very cool features. I was a little worried when I checked in that I was going to hear others through the walls but I had a lovely, quiet stay. There are really fun «goodies» available in the room (they cost a lot but they are really fun and great if you are hungry, thirsty or forgot your accessories!). The absolute best thing about all Ws are the BLISS products. They are fabulous, quality products for hair, face and body. Take the time to walk around the lobby — the décor is very unusual. My only complaint is the parking. It’s very expensive and, during this visit, my car arrived REEKING of (cigar?) smoke as if someone sat in it all night and smoked in it (I’m a non-​smoker so it was sickening). For the cost of the valet, they should be washing my car — not stinking it up.

This review is for the rooftop bar. I think it must be semi-​outdoor in the summer, but alas, I was here in the winter so the space was sealed shut albeit with clear plastic so you can still get a view of the White House.
There are two bars here with seating dispersed throughout the whole area, which is quite large. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced. People here were definitely having a good time, and I was here on a Sunday night!
I liked the wall décor, which had some murals, as well as the dim lighting via hanging Edison bulbs.

This hotel is a five star experience, start to finish. The location is exceptional, right across the street from the White House, blocks from the Mall, short walk to China Town, and close to the Metro Blue line from DCA.
The hotel oozes class, but vibrates with a funky vibe. The rooms are a bit cramped, but you feel pampered, even if it were not for their «Whatever whenever» program. Little touches like having hot cider waiting for you in the lobby on a cold evening, and hot coffee in the morning. (I do not like the hotels that sell Starbucks instead of giving you a cup of what you need to start your day. That is bush league.) And the staff never stopped asking what you could use.
Plus they have good restaurants and a couple bars, including a rooftop soot with heaters for cold nights.
On topi of all this, they had a better rate than their competition in the immediate area.

Probably one of the best rooftop views in DC. You get a sweeping view of the White House, Washington Monument, and The Lawn. Amazing. Drink prices are hefty, but they’re nicely mixed and clientele and décor is a little chic’r than the clientele and décor at the Beacon rooftop. Music is also hipper and overall you feel a little more posh than any other rooftop in DC. You better come and grab a seat well before sunset though because it will be slammed and all the prime seats taken.

I stayed here using starwood points so it was pretty nice. We got upgraded to a suite– good views of the monument and plenty of space. Bathroom is pretty big and comes with a shower and tub. The room had a king size bed and the living room had plenty of space to sit in.
The lobby is pretty nice, as you would expect a w hotel. The building is old but everything looks newly renovated. I’ve been to their POV rooftop a couple times, pretty views and pretentious people.
I didn’t have high expectations because it is downtown DC at the W hotel… people are probably going to be pretentious…
I have stayed a the W in other cities and the décor was a lot nicer so don’t expect much when coming here. Don’t get me wrong, it is still pretty nice here but not worth $ 400 – 500 a night…
It is close to everything since it is located pretty close to the white house. If you can stay here using points– I recommend doing that and not spending your own money.

Lovely building inside and out. didn’t stay here but attended a work event and was thrilled with what I saw of the hotel. Filled with odd art and odd people, the hotel seemed quite hip, falling in suite with the other W Hotel locations that I’ve visited. Multiple bars with spectacular views of the city… Centrally located, charismatic staff, pretty ideal if visiting DC

I wasn’t staying as a Guest, as we opted for quick libations in the Living Room and Roof Top before our next venture. From the Doorman to every employee we passed, we were greeted with a very engaging demeanor.
Once we ascended to the rooftop lounge, we were extended positive salutations again from a three person Host Stand. I got my coat checked by a beaming smile that belonged to Miss Marly, with her eccentric yet fashionable demure… OMG she belongs on the Catwalk!
When we walked in, I immediately started to gaze at the illuminated views, especially of the White House. I tried to send a morse code to President O. to come over for a glass of Malbec, but he didn’t answer.
Of course the DJ was on point, the crowd was dressed to impress, it really was a flare of nightlife happenings.
The interior design was on fashion fleek to the 10^th, I love the red walls! The selective & by designed fabrics of the unique & stylish furniture was with a trendy & stylish posh effect… big ups to the Interior Designer.
There were a few tables marked off for RSVP, but was glad to see open tables to be utilized, in addition to the communal tables.
I really enjoyed looking at the nation’s monuments in between sips and dancing. We didn’t stay long, but our time was very enjoyable.
As we were heading out, I noticed my phone was dying & needed some juice before headed out. & lo and behold, the Concierge had those canine ears in full mode as he walked up to me and said «Hello, welcome to the W, my name is Marlon & I charge your phone for you»…well how about that?
While my phone was getting a quick charge, I watch Marlon live and in living color handling an impending guest’s accommodations. He listened, confirmed, typed & everything else that comes along with be an extraordinaire Concierge in matter of seconds. He exuded such panache & professionalism with his craft & his attire was crisp to the T. He knew the ins/​outs of the city, the happening places & destinations to go to.
I like to interact with employees that really enjoy their job… it makes servicing us guests, clients & etc such a better experience. Marlon really gave off the W Wow factor in interacting with everyone that came his way. He was even kind enough to snap a picture of my Goddaughter & I in front of the famous Polaroid Wall.
Our visit here makes me want to dust off my SPG card & start earning points again.

Beautiful, modern hotel. The room was really nice and the décor was lovely. The bed was super comfy, the TV had tons of channels, and the shower was great.
However, it’s PRICEY to stay here (we had a wedding rate which was nice). Also, the AC just isn’t cool enough in any of the spaces (rooms, hallways, ballroom, etc) — it felt damp and humid everywhere to me. Also, despite the beautiful interior, I wouldn’t stay here again because the roof deck club was SO LOUD I could hear it all night in my room like it was right next door (the loud noise went until at least 2am).

Tolles Hotel direkt an Weißen Haus (3 min zu Fuß). Modernes Hotel, das sich auch von der Einrichtung her im positiven Sinne von dem sonstigen amerikanischen Standard abhebt. Da nahe am Weißen Haus ist die Lage eher ruhig, aber daher auch eher funktionale Gebäude (wenn auch schön anzuschauen, da häufig alte Gebäude). Ein strammer Fußmarsch bringt einen aber ins Georgetown, wo man dann shoppen oder gut Essen kann. Einzig kleiner Kritikpunkt sind die Kosten für WLAN.
