Urban Sustainable

Ok. It’s been five days, and I have a row of little shoots. If they become full heads of lettuce, I’ll upgrade by review: D
Seriously though, Ann/​Annie (?) was very patient with me. She set me up for my first urban gardening experiment, didn’t judge my un-​green thumb, and explained everything very patiently. Most importantly, she was reasonable. My little experiment only cost me around $ 25.
She even helped stuff all of my purchases into my backpack so I could ride home without losing anything important.

This place couldn’t have come to DC at a better time. I had just moved from a house with a yard into a giant apartment building when, with garden-​separation-​anxiety setting in, I came across Urban Sustainable.
Urban Sustainable has all kinds of gardening equipment, specializing in indoor gardening. Kirk, the guy manning the store, showed me all kinds of hydroponic systems (basically soil-​less gardens) and other options. I settled on an «Emily’s Garden», a starter kit that lets you grow 6 decent-​sized plans inside using a tub that’s about 2ft x 1ft x 1 ft. I got a grow light and was good to go.
Of course, since this was my first time trying this out, I had all kinds of questions. Fortunately, Kirk from the store gave me his email address and I’ve been bugging him nonstop ever since. He answers my questions in a day at most, and seems to really like giving advice and talking about gardening.
If you have an interest in gardening and don’t have any place to do it, check out Urban Sustainable. You’ll be amazed at what you can do with small urban spaces.

This store/​organization is a such a neat business to have in the neighborhood, and I wish them lots of success with their mission.
If you’ve ever had any interest in indoor gardening or gardening in a small, urban space (or if you just want to buy some soil and check out the cool hydroponic displays), this store has all of the equipment you need, and a highly knowledgeable staff that are truly passionate about what Urban Sustainable does.

Stopped in here with my partner to get potting material for the Norfolk Island Pine seeds we are growing. The staff was very nice, accommodating and knowledgeable. The store carries a lot of interesting and varied products for indoor & urban gardening including those cool little wall hanging gardens which I hope to get at some point soon! The prices are very reasonable as well. Definitely give this shop a shot for your urban gardening needs!
