I would strongly recommend another shipping method other than USPS if you ship any item, especially if it is valued over $ 50. Their insurance coverage does not matter.
I shipped a server grade computer in January. It clearly had damage to the outside of the box when it was delivered despite being marked on all sides as Fragile and Insured. The box was delivered with a hole in it, the case to the computer was damaged, as well as several inside components ruined.
I immediately filed my claim and was denied twice. It took them until May to even let me know they were denying the claim. Most of this time, the server remained in their possession at the local Post Office for them to analyze the damaged sustained to the computer.
The icing on the cake was when I went to retrieve the computer from the local Post Office here in North Carolina, the postal worker was kicking and sliding the box out the door. When I asked her to stop, she stated they always slide boxes like this, it wouldn’t damage the item.

I am commenting on the USPS HQ and not this address. I have had poor delivery service for over 16 years. We live on a numbered street that gets mistaken for other letters and numbers. There isn’t enough space to detail all of the stress that has occurred over the years. I will just detail some of the «low» lights.
1. Due to mail sorter error & human error, the post office has lost gift cards, tickets, wedding and other invitations, prizes, coupons, important IRS notices, items with deadlines, family letters (one from my dad before he passed away) and packages.
2. Packages get left on the porch or hidden behind a bush without a knock or notice.
3. Mail gets left in the mail slot. This means it can blow away or be stolen.
4. Hubby and I have both had our identities compromised by bills being misdelivered to the wrong address.
5. Hubby took a picture of a mail carrier who wouldn’t share his name, so we could report poor service. The mail carrier charged at hubby and would have hit him if he were quicker. Assault doesn’t require physical contact but you can’t fire someone on a postal route unless they kill you (per union representative).
6. Our family members know how horrible our service is so they don’t send bday cards or «how are you?» cards since we may not receive them. Anything important gets sent to my mom’s house, since she has accurate service. She lives 3 hours away so I can’t always get things quickly.
What we’ve been through to try to get help:
Dozens and dozens of phone calls to the usps 800 number, customer service, etc. It doesn’t help.
We have filed complaints. We get a case number & it gets resolved without any actual investigating.
I spoke at Representative Norton’s roundtable on the post office in ’14. I was one of two constituents invited to speak from the 300 complaints received. I read my letter to the local Dc postmaster. Being on his radar has slightly decreased issues. It hasn’t resolved them.
I have jumped through every hoop suggested to get help: call the customer service number, call the advocate hotline, involve the local postmaster, write the postmaster general.
No one cares enough to actually follow through on their good wishes or apologies. I would love to meet with the US postmaster’s staff to share our situation.
I don’t want to purchase one stamp to support an organization that can’t get their act together.

This is for the headquarters… I don’t know how the USPS thinks it is going to do same day delivery, when the can’t even get 3 – 4 day done right… If it takes more than 4 days you should get you money back. I sent a check by priority on 11-​6-​2013 from CA to TX it got there on 12-​5-​2013 #9 114 901 159 815 707 361 280. and if you try to complain they refer you to the last place that scan you package, but the problem is only half the places scan packages… # 23 061 570 000 040 136 704 was a 12 day priority… They post an 800 number which gives you a run around. How about posting all PO phone numbers and requiring scanning

Normal day to day mail delivery is efficient and reasonably priced.
My question is, why issue tracking numbers for Priority Mail?
I’ve gotten several hundred over the years, but their tracking system is like Towlie from South Park, they «have no idea what’s going on» until it’s been delivered!
Really?
If I have the package, you needn’t trouble yourselves advising me that I’ve received it, unless I happen to be comatose at the time!
The system has the package, but just doesn’t know where!
Maybe they know where my keys are, though!

I think this Unilocal entry needs to be clear on whether it represents USPS HQ or the USPS location that is inside L’Enfant Plaza. I’m taking it to be the second.
I rarely send snail mail anymore, but when I do, I usually drop through here en route to work. The automatic mail machines, from which you can buy postage, are convenient and I’ve never had a problem using them. Even when the line isn’t long, the service isn’t the speediest, but the workers here aren’t unfriendly, which is a nice departure from the other USPSes that I’ve been to in the area.

Your customer service system is TERRIBLE. Designed to frustrate people and inundate them with unnecessary information until they get frustrated and hang up. The phone system is designed to try to prevent as many calls from getting through as possible. Pathetic organization. No idea how this company has survived this long with service like this. They better thank God for online shopping, without it these guys would have been driven out of business long ago.

I would rather companies ship me stuff via carrier pigeon than go through USPS ever again.

This is the only full-​service USPS outlet in L’Enfant Plaza. There aren’t too many postal clerks available at one time. Still, the few employees on duty give service with a smile.

I am so pissed at the USPS. So I decided why not write a review for the headquarters?
The USPS is hands down the worst possible delivery service to use for packages or other stationery-​related ephemera. Why? Because they lie. They lie about trying to deliver when, in fact, it’s impossible that they could have delivered. Oh, they say they left a notice? Not so. Bullshit. Bull. Shit.
I’m just going to have to stop buying products online that use the USPS as their carrier. They’re so bad, I even prefer the brown UPS now!
Go to hell, USPS.

Riddled with anxiety, my cred on the line, I went to
and followed instructions to «Track & Confirm». Sure enough, «acceptance» of my letter was indicated, as was «dispatch to sort facility» with an expected delivery date of «September 1» but obviously NO delivery as per both my vendor, and the USPS site. Fitful sleep, then awakened by second, 3.+ earthquake of the week! No rest for the wicked…
Next day, I called USPS 1−800−275−8777, followed menu prompts to be immediately connected with «Track & Confirm», customer care rep, Patricia. Within minutes she initiated an investigation and created a case number. She told me it would take one business day for USPS to get back with me but if the item was received prior, to please call back to cancel the case.
Hallelujah, vendor called to say payment arrived September 7! After USPS hours (ET), I wasn’t able to cancel ongoing investigation but would Saturday (8:00AM –6:00PM) for sure, cuz that’s the way I do biz…
…for what it’s worth, I REALLY tried. After multiple attempts at due diligence, following prompts that seemed to apply but didn’t really, disconnected thrice, I had to let this go, to get to work, with hope the USPS would figure it out to cancel my case on their own.
Yet, I truly feel bad for the worker, assigned to me, who could be done with it and move on to help someone else, such a waste of time, energy and money… theirs, mine.
Had a lovely chat with an independent survey rep Friday evening, prior to my failed attempts today; hope she calls back. I’ll just read her this:
Five stars for Patricia!
Four stars for USPS online services!
Zero stars for too general a phone menu and multiple disconnects.
So, let’s just call it three stars and be done with it.

I don’t care for post offices but this one stood out for many reasons. I work in the area and had to mail a letter off. Googled map said it’s a 15 min walk. Off I go in this heat wave. Sure enough wandered around the ginormous L’Enfant Builing not knowing where the Post Office could be bc I’m following Google map. I see a sign for Post Office HQ. Asked a garage attendant and instructed me to go through the glass doors and up the escalator.
Wow, this is a nice Post Office I’m thinking as I walked through the doors. Then I noticed front desk with ID must be provided for all visitors. I’m sure I’m one of many that day that wanders into the USPS HQ assuming it’s the Post Offie.
Service was great. Although it wasn’t busy but I’d definitely walk back there if I need to mail something off.

Unlike most people, it seems, I’ve never had a problem with the Post Office. There are three Post Offices within a three mile radius in the city where I live with a population of around 60,000… I avoid the long lines at the Main Post Office by just performing my mailing at the outlying, smaller offices… or just going to the Contract substations… or not going to the Post Office at lunchtime or just before they close. And the USPS has kinda caught up with technology… specifically the Internet… I order Stamps, and FREE Priority boxes, via the Internet. That’s Cool!
But I did notice something that could be a problem for some people…
I just sent off two Certified letters and was wondering to myself how
long the tracking system keeps the Tracking Number online via the
Internet. I inquired about this to the clerk, who could not answer the
question. She then called the Postmaster (a very small Post Office)
who said that I was the first person who asked this question. He
replied that he «thought» the Tracking Numbers stayed on the USPS
website for about two months… After that, I would have to inquire at
the local Post Office for someone to download an archived
database that contained Tracking Numbers more than two months
old to look up this information… for a «nominal» fee.
I wonder how «nominal» is the fee?
With the searching capabilities of

other Search Engines… Why can’t the USPS place all the data
online?
