Threads

Came because this is literally next to my house. Prices are kinda pricey ($ 15 for brows + tip) but they have decent hours and I was in desperate need of a thread. Kind of an odd location due to the fact that it is next to a bar. Ring the call box and go upstairs, it’s actually kinda sketchy looking upon first arrival.
Threading was good and fast! No wait. Only one lady working. She was nice but nothing over the top.

What I did like is that the lady I had didn’t overthread and make super defined arches. But based on the reviews below, definitely ask for Sonya. I went for the first time and went with whoever was available (one other lady since it’s a small place). My brows were uneven when she finished so I asked to her thread a little off the top, but she still left one brow noticeably longer than the other. By like a cm. I didn’t want to risk her overdoing it and it’s something I can fix on my own with a little bit of plucking so I just left. I’ll probably go back and ask for Sonya.

Probably the least painful eyebrow threading I’ve ever had! The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is because Saraswati didn’t do a perfect job — there are some stray hairs at the edges of my brows that she didn’t remove. Also, $ 17 for a threading ($ 15 plus tip) seems high.

I got my brows threaded here like 5 years ago and I’m STILL angry at what the last did to my eyebrows. I’ve always had fantastic thick brows to the point where people stop me in the street to compliment me. I got my brows threaded there and she butchered my brows to the point where they never grew in the same. It pisses me off to this day obviously if I’m coming back to write a review AGAIN. I’ve been using castor oil to try to get them to come back but it’s barely working. They are both uneven and just look terrible. I just started seeing an eyebrow guru that comes in to town once a month from Philly and she’s trying to revive my brows. I wish I could tell you the name of the little young girl who butchered mine there. She probably got fired. Anyways thought I’d let everyone know again. If I could give this place zero stars I would.

Sonya gives my eyebrows life and life more abundantly. She’s quick, personable, and masterfully skilled. For someone who is extremely meticulous about their brows, Sonya is your person.

I was not impressed. Both of my eyebrows were different shapes.

Gone here because its close to my office. Skill level varies widely. last time I went, it was painful and I came out covered in red bumps. Dc threading is cheaper and the women there are way more consistently talented/​knowledgeable.

I always love my beautifully sculpted eyebrows when I leave Sonya’s chair.
Note: I take the time to describe that I like my eyebrows to remain thick. Sonya always cleans up my brows and maintains their shape.
I am a happy customer.

The ONLY place in DC that I trust with my eyebrows. I have very delicate (okay, sparse) eyebrows so I’m very picky about who I let touch them… one pluck too many and I’m virtually browless but Sonya was AMAZING! I have no experience with the other woman/​women there, I only go to her.
UPDATE: I had some time to kill before happy hour so I stopped in after I left work but Sonya wasn’t there, I was little nervous but I would feel bad if I just walked out on the lady there (that’s rude, right?) Well I learned a valuable lesson that day, A woman should not take chances with her eyebrows. I don’t know her name and didn’t bother to ask but she was unattentive, my eyebrows were threaded too thin and they didn’t match! I have sparse eyebrows as it is and Sonya shapes them perfectly.
My advice would be to call ahead and make sure Sonya’s there.

Time for a follow up from my previous review… So, I DID go back after 2 weeks, and I’ve been going ever since. To this day, I haven’t had a bad experience. Make sure that you request Sonya — she’s the best and the quickest… Not to mention, she actually talks to you and makes you feel comfortable. Cash is their preferred method of payment, and they are not shy about it! However, they will accept cards. I’m not sure if you can leave a tip on the card, but I usually try to tip them in cash instead.

This is my first time threading and it will be my last. I can honestly say this was one of the worst customer experiences of my life. I went here for an eyebrow thread with a coworker who raves about this place. When we walked in, I had mixed feelings: excitement because there were lots of women there so it must be popular, and revulsion because it reeked of body odor.
They got me into the chair quickly which was good, but everything after that was a disaster. First of all, I regularly tweeze and get waxed and this was MUCH more painful than either of those AND took longer. I was sitting there for at least 15 minutes while the woman broke at least 30 threads, and even spit one on me. I am all for beauty is pain, but I think she broke a ton of my hairs and didn’t even get them from the root. I finally had to say «this is enough» and stopped there, practically ran out of my chair, paid and left. My coworker just informed me that it looks like I’m wearing purple eye makeup.
Needless to say, I have NO idea what all these four and five star reviews are about. Horrible.

They do incredible eyebrow shaping, and I am a loyal customer. However I would only go to Sonya.
I went last week and had them done by another girl and I now have red spots from thread skin pinching that look like 5 insect bites. They will heal, but Sonya NEVER has this issue and her eyebrows are the best.
I would give them 5 stars if they were all like Sonya, and had to give at least 4 because of her.

Standardly (is that a word?) priced — I have tried this place a few times. It’s not huge which makes waiting if there are more than 2 or 3 people a little awkward. One of the girls who did my eyebrows was very rough and I ended up with redness and a little lumpy irritation. I vowed to stay away. However Dupont Threading is too far of a walk sometimes (high wind, rain, cold) and my girl at my nail salon (see review for A List Nails in Barracks Row) isn’t always available. I went back to Threads yesterday and luckily I had the woman who I had once who didn’t hurt me. Her name is Preethi. She was quick and pleasant and did a great clean job without affecting my shape which is exactly what I wanted.

By far, my best eyebrow shaping experience. I live very close by, and I can’t believe I never knew this place was here. I’d been going to Dupont Threading and had never gotten my eyebrows shaped without a considerable amount of pain, so I just assumed that was the norm. I found Threads on Unilocal,and since it’s so close to where I live, I figured I’d give it a try.
It is tucked away in a somewhat obscure location. It’s upstairs above Post Pub on L Street NW. You have to get buzzed in, which is a little confusing because the sign on the door gives instructions that are different from the instructions on the buzz box. Either way, minor inconvenience and not really a big deal as I had no trouble getting buzzed in.
I didn’t get the name of the woman who did my eyebrows, but she was amazing. The amount of pain involved was CONSIDERABLY less than any other eyebrow shaping experience I have had, threading, waxing, and plucking combined. There were times that she was removing hairs, and I didn’t even feel a thing. And it’s reasonably priced ($ 15 for eyebrows). Although I’d pay double that considering how good she is. Usually I leave with tears streaming down my face from the pain. But getting threading done here, my eyes didn’t water a single bit. This is definitely my new regular spot for eyebrow shaping!

Best threading I’ve ever received, and a reasonable price. Sonya is an eyebrow wizard, no photos required. I just told her verbally what I wanted and she got it perfectly right. They get docked a star for having really weird hours during the holidays. As in, I call ahead of time to see when you’ll be open, you tell me, I drive down from Maryland, and the shop is not open during the time you told me it would be. Nor is it open the next day. And no one is answering the phone. But this place is still my favorite place to get my eyebrows done without a single doubt.
Parking here is terrible because it’s close enough to downtown to have hours you can and can’t park, so I highly recommend metro (McPherson). Also it shares and address with a pub type place in the same building, so if you’re looking for it from a car window while driving, it’s easy to miss. It’s the door between the restaurants (one is shut down with big wooden fortress type doors, one is not), and you have to be buzzed in. I had a tip about which directions to follow to get buzzed in because there where two different ones with different directions, but the last time I went, neither was there so hopefully that’s changed.
I think she takes cards, I always get cash before she comes. There’s a BoA literally around the corner.
5 star results, but 4 (or 3) star customer relations.

I wish I had known this place was here. It’s tucked above Post Pub, and literally around the corner from my office.
I had my eyebrows threaded at Unilocal’s Fantasy Land, and strongly preferred the experience to waxing. So when it came time for me to clean up my brows, and I looked on Unilocal to see what was nearby, Threads was the obvious choice.
The door is easy to miss, but if you know that it’s between the club and post pub, you’ll find it. Follow the instructions to be buzzed in, walk upstairs, and let the wonderful ladies take care of your furry brows!
Relatively painless (more of a sharp tickle than pain), and super fast, with MUCH less irritation than waxing.
Now I’m ready for date night!

I decided to stop by because 1) I was in the area (literally a block away) and 2) It had such good reviews on Unilocal.
It was fairly easy to find, but I can see how people could miss it if you’re looking for a big sign. The door had instructions on what code to punch in to get into the place and opened for me on the first try.
You climb up a narrow staircase and enter what seems to be a living room. When I walked in, there were two ladies inside eating noodles and watching a Bollywood movie. I told the one who was sitting in one of the threading chairs (the younger of the two) that I’d like my eyebrows shaped and thinned out a bit.
Not sure who did my brows because I didn’t get a name. No pleasantries at all. She seemed more into her movie. Now, granted I hadn’t had my eyebrows done in 4 months, but I did keep them groomed. I just wanted a bit more shape. Maybe time makes a difference, because the string broke several times. However, she still finished quickly, about 8 minutes or so.
My brows looked nice, but not thinned out at all. Usually, a threader does one brow, asks me if I’m fine with the shape, and then proceeds to the next. No such luck here. She did both and had already wiped me down with sanitizer and was watching the movie before I could look closely (I have to put my glasses back on to see). I touched up my brows the next day at home.
Sure I could have asked her to start again, but if they’ve already assumed they did things perfectly, I move on to the next place. I don’t like to take chances with my brows, as I can’t draw them on to save my life.
Overall, it was fine. But for $ 15, I expect to be wowed. I’ll stick to getting mine done at Union Station. It’s only $ 10, the ladies are friendly, and there’s shopping :)

Fast, easy and relatively painless when compared to waxing. Walked in on a Monday lunch hour no appointment, and luckily there was no queue — was out in 10 min. The outside looks a bit dodgy, but once you’re up the stairs and inside, its a bright yellow room with Bollywood blaring. A nice change of pace… Sabrina did a great job. Thanks!

Sonya is the truth. I drive all over DC for her to do my eyebrows. Yes it is that serious.
Sonya always shapes my brows perfectly. Lets just say for us girls with very «Thick» eyebrows one stray hair, one side too small will look horrible! I am very finicky with my eyebrows because they can make my outfit look bad. Hehehe. But Sonya is the best she pays attention to detail and she SHAPES THE EYEBROW TO YOUR FACE! I put that in caps because that is a very important technique. Certain shapes do not look right on everyones face shape. PERIOD. Sonya’s work is painless. It hurts less than wax and she will make you love threading. Still $ 15 bucks for your brows but let me tell you… it last 3−31÷2 weeks versus wax that last a mere 2 weeks. I love me some Sonya and I will continue to «stalk» her for my brows. Lol
Now I’m thinking I shouldn’t have shared her. Oh well :)

I’m not sure if he was still talking about my eyebrows at that point but I think that was a good enough sign to get down to Threads. Yes, it is more expensive than LA or NYC but it is pretty convenient if you work downtown.
Tips:
1.Bring cash
2.Call ahead if you are going between 4 and 6 pm
3.If you have sensitive skin, put some Neosporin on afterwards to reduce redness
4. Avoid the peeps who are heading up to the psychic
