Our Certified Packing Experts here at The UPS Store can pack almost anything. We specialize in properly packing fragile and high value items, including antiques, art, electronics, crystal and china. We also offer a wide range of packaging supplies and boxes for all of your moving and shipping needs.

History

Established in 1980.

The Mail Boxes Etc. concept was introduced in 1980 as a convenient alternative to the post office. Throughout its evolution, it has continued to define and lead the business services category it created. In 2001, UPS® acquired Mail Boxes Etc., Inc.® In 2003, the two companies introduced The UPS Store® brand. On April 7, 2003, approximately 3,000 Mail Boxes Etc. locations in the United States (at the time, nearly 90% of the domestic U.S. network) re-​branded as The UPS Store and began offering lower (around 20% on average) UPS-​direct shipping rates. In 2012, Mail Boxes Etc., Inc. became The UPS Store, Inc.

With more than 4,400 convenient locations, centers remain locally owned and operated. The UPS Store offers a variety of solutions to meet the needs of small businesses — including in-​store and online printing, mailbox and postal services, packing and moving supplies, shipping and freight services.

The worst service I’ve ever experienced. Both ladies working were extremely rude. I came to buy a box to ship some things they said I couldn’t put my things in the box inside the building so I went outside on the street to pack my things up… I asked if I could use some tape and the lady just huffed and pointed to the rack of tape to be bought. so I bought a whole roll of tape for one box. I saw those ladies yell at other customers during the rest of my visit. Those ladies need to take a customer service 101. something is seriously wrong with the way that place is managed.

I was so impressed with the service I received here yesterday, especially considering how busy the store was when I went there. The person who worked with me happened to be the General Manager, Dana Gill. Dana was extremely professional, helpful, and patient — and went WAY beyond the call of duty. She was concerned that my parcel was not packed securely enough (and took the time to explain UPS policy concerning claims for damaged parcels) so she opened it, repacked it (with styrofoam peanuts), and resealed it securely — without charging me a penny for her time or materials. Furthermore, when the postage for one of my parcels turned out to be inappropriately high (because of the shape of the contained, a tube) she recommended a cheaper way to pack/​send it. AMAZING.

Beware of this location. Paid a pretty penny to overnight an important document and it took 6 days to get to its location. Needless to say, due to the incompetence, a family member wasn’t able to close a deal on their house in time.

The staff at this UPS store is wonderful. They are always friendly and helpful and professional. I come here several times a week as a MyChoice user and its always a pleasure. When my hands are full they will even help carry the packages to my car. Special shout out to the manager/​notary James-​great guy who clearly makes it a great place to work for his employees.

I read the unfavorable ratings but had little choice, since I needed to mail some personal effects to a friend who had moved away. The articles were heavy and of different sizes, so I needed help packing. I walked in on a rainy Saturday morning and a young man named Jeron was working there. He could not have been nicer. He handled my difficult request with courtesy and professionalism, was helpful to other customers, and managed to hold it all together when things suddenly bus. He was polite, professional and efficient and I was very satisfied with the whole transaction.

My fiancé had an audition a few doors down and needed to get his resume and head shot printed. We walked in and asked «do you print pictures?» The man working behind the desk quickly said yes. We forwarded all the necessary documents and then he handed my fiancé his headshot on printer paper. Obviously shocked by this, we said very politely I thought this would be on photo paper. The man was very agitated and said they don’t do that and reiterated we would have to pay for the printed picture. Why would you say yes you print pictures if all you do is print it on regular printer paper? I could have done that at home!

Horrible service. Staff is rude and disrespectful. Unless you are dropping off a package that is already packed and labelled, don’t come here. Schedule a pick up at your home or go to another location.

I don’t usually post reviews for this sort of business but was so pleasantly surprised by my trip to UPS last week. I had a stroller and one of the folks saw me coming and opened the door. Then she saw the package in the stroller and asked if she could take it for me. It was ready to ship in less than a minute and she asked if there was anything else she could do. As she was assisting me once again with the door another customer walked in and asked if they had a notary. Once of the guys came over and said he was at her service. So not what I was expecting at a UPS store.

I’m in their frequently to pick up UPS MyChoice packages and the staff is always helpful and quick. It does get busy sometimes, but I think they try to get through the line as quick as they can. As usual — if you’re nice to staff they will be nice to you, and vice-​versa.

Terrible terrible service. Every person — almost without exception (there are a FEW exceptions) — in this UPS location is surly, rude and sloppy, and this has been true for years and years. The owner, Capt Michael Phillips — evidently creates a culture of horrendous service. Staff is, as a rule, ill-​tempered, lazy and incredibly hostile. I have never been in another store that provides such bad service. I suggest the UPS stores on M St NW (downtown) or the 2 UPS stores on Conn Ave NW if you want to be helped, not annoyed and frustrated. A visit to this store can ruin your day.

The service here is wonderful! They helped me mail an eBay shipment after closing hours with no complaint. Another time, they saw me struggling with my bike trailer while trying to drop off a package and came outside to get it for me. They are much friendlier and mor helpful than the FedEx.

The staff here is friendly, helpful and efficient. They have a notary public on staff (just call to make sure she is working on that day,) and it’s super cheap. Downside is that the store itself is small, so it can feel crowded after only three customers inside. And the boxes and packaging equipment are ridiculously expensive. Instead of paying $ 9 for a standard packing box at UPS, take a 7-​minute drive to U-​Haul. That same box cost me $ 1.45 there.

I don’t understand the negative comments about this store. The staff is polite and helpful and always calls me by name. Are they perfect? No, but they’re very competent. This is a great UPS store and I highly recommend. BTW, they don’t charge for tape if you’re a customer.

I’ve been a box holder at this location for over a decade and wish there was competition I could take my business to. I cannot count how many times over the last 10 – 15 years they have misplaced packages, told me I didn’t have any when I did, or have just been plain rude and incompetent. I went there today and was told I only had two packages repeatedly. I left, went home, check my amazon account and of course, have at least two other packages there somewhere. The only thing this UPS Store has going for it is the high theft of packages from people’s door fronts and the lack of competition.

This particular franchisee has verified to me over the phone that they break from the policies of other franchisees and charge for things that are normally gratis, such as UPS labeled mailing envelopes. What is worse is that when I grabbed said envelope and asked for my cost to ship before handing in my credit card, the gentleman told me the cost without the envelope and, then, proceeded to attempt to charge me nearly $ 3 for the envelope on top of what he quoted me. I refused to pay and shipped for a much lower cost at USPS, across the street, who didn’t charge extra for a priority mail envelope.
While I can understand the need to charge more to cover higher rents in this location, I cannot tolerate bait and switch, IMHO, tactics. I have been so burnt by these guys in the past that I just called ahead to ensure they wouldn’t try to charge me for a postage paid by addressee return item when I drop it off. This is a sad situation.

I’ve only had positive experiences at this location. All of the staff who I’ve interacted with have been incredibly helpful and at times, they’ve gone out of their way to help.
When you ship with them a few times, they create an account for you, which streamlines the process a bit.
I’ve never been charged for extra tape. This is Capitol Hill, though, so I I imagine it is their policy to charge for as many things as possible. It will just depend on who helps you when you stop by.
If you are ever by Eastern Market, I would highly recommend this location over the USPS across the street.

On Wednesday July 2, I needed an urgent package to be in Kentucky by the close of business on Monday July 7. I hadn’t gotten out of work in time to go to the post office, so I headed to UPS. I had done a little research and based on online price quotes, UPS was cheaper than FedEx.
It had been a rough day. I was leaving for vacation at zero dark thirty the next morning and hadn’t packed a thing. I spent most of Wednesday tying up loose ends at work only to find out at 4 pm that a document package I had yet to compose needed to physically (not just postmarked) be in Kentucky on Monday 7 July. No extension was available, and I’d be sending the package with one less business day (July 4) to work with. Needless to say, I showed up to UPS a little on the frazzled side.
James helped me at the counter, and all was going well until he said…“Ohhhhhh…we can’t ship to P.O. boxes.” Ughhhhhhhhhhhh. I didn’t have a street address for the package, and I was flying out at 8 am the next morning… to an island… meaning even if I brought the package with me, there’d be little to no chance of it making it to Kentucky by Monday.
After explaining my dilemma to James, he worked his magic (or witchcraft… who knows?) and somehow was able to send the package through USPS via UPS. I didn’t ask questions, I just sealed the package, got a receipt and was on my merry way. The best part was I paid less than had I sent the package through UPS! Brilliant!
Thank you, James, for whatever you did that day to send my package. It was one less thing I had to worry about before going on vacation.

As others have reported this UPS Store charges $ 2 for tape and don’t have the kindest employees working there. I went there today to send back a package and just needed a piece of tape to put the shipping label on. Yes they really do try to charge you $ 2 for a .05 cent piece of tape. I asked if they were serious and they sure were. At this time I had no idea what other Unilocalers were reporting. I asked the two employees if they ever heard of Unilocal.They said «yes» and they said «You go ahead and write your Unilocal review.»
I went next door to the Pound on the Hill restaurant and they kindly gave me the piece of tape I needed. Upon return to the store with my taped package they told me that you dont tape packages with scotch tape. They said they would tape my package which did not need anything else if I gave them a good Unilocal review. I gave them a 2 star instead of the 1 which I was planning on giving.
Sorry UPS Store on Pennsylvania… this franchise owner/​management needs to address its employee training and revisit its $ 2 for any tape policy.
