The St. Regis Washington, D.C.

My wife and I came to DC for the holidays. Every night we spent at a different hotel. Just to try something new. The St. Regis was by far the best and nicest!!! Super friendly staff, large clean rooms, blocks from the WH, and just an awesome hotel!!! We changed our New Years plans to stay at this hotel. Everyone would be very happy here!

I have spent numerous nights at this hotel over the years and frequently used the restaurant and bar for business meetings. I will say that of all the hotels I’ve stayed at during my career, this is in the top 3, and what separates 1 from 3 is virtually negligible.
Let’s be clear. There’s nothing inexpensive at this hotel. You are paying for service that is truly impeccable. The hotel restaurant and bar were redecorated a few years ago and truly reflect a very upscale and more modern look. I do miss the days when you could smoke a cigar in the bar, it was by far the BEST cigar bar I’ve ever been in. The ventilation was phenomenal and the ambiance was great for a casual night out or closing up a deal. Regardless. The rooms are spectacular and from the moment you walk in, the service could not be more attentive. The staff at the door are friendly and inviting and the reception desk is absolutely perfect. The bottom line is that you’re getting what you pay for.
The rooms are definitely decorated with an older crowd in mind and for someone that stays in upscale hotels such as the W and Westin, there’s a distinct difference. I do enjoy the rooms and come into the hotel knowing that high tea and traditional design are hallmarks to this hotel chain. The chandeliers in the rooms are immense and really give a richness to the space. The storage for clothes and TV are built in and unobtrusive. If lucky enough to get an upgrade, the suites are just stunning. And as simple as it sounds, one of my favorite features are the TVs in the bathroom mirror.
This hotel is a fantastic value and I would recommend it not only for staying overnight but also conducting business.

I don’t know what they pipe through the AC but this place smells like a god damn barnyard. The last thing I want to be reminded of when I’m staying at a classy joint in DC are my days back on the farm with the donkeys. No seriously, there were donkeys. And this hotel smells like a bunch of donkeys. Or chewed-​up hay. Not even kidding. Five stars my ass.

Just wanted a night beyond the norm so stayed in the city after a long night partying with friends. The St Regis is one of the best hotels I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The cost of the room was worth it defiantly

This property really grew on me. I was shocked when I first saw the room… way too small and not nearly up to St. Regis snuff. The bathroom is smaller than your average budget hotel.
After 24 hours I was sold, though. Service was terrific. I loved the little touches, like free shoe-​shining, turn-​down service, your choice of paper hung on your door, the human wake-​up call that comes with a weather forecast.
The bed was comfy and the couch a good touch. Weirdly, the air conditioner was amazing.
I’m not sure this belongs as a St. Regis though… maybe more of a Luxury Collection?

Beautiful old-​world hotel. The location is great— very close to the White house. Lots of good food near by. I recommend the The Bombay Club at 815 Connecticut Ave NW Washington, DC 20 006 for an elegant Indian dinner, and breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien («daily bread») at 800 17^th St NW Washington, DC 20 006.
The hotel is small and so is the lobby. A little reminiscent of European hotels. Staff is amazing, including the concierge. Beds are fabulous. Ask for a room that does NOT face 16^th Street, since the building across the street (on 16^th) is under major construction. It can be noisy and isn’t a nice view.
Reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because the bathtub — shower is a nightmare to get in and out of. The hotel even provides a two-​step step stool to help you climb in and out.

Stunning, breathtaking, and utter elegance… this hotel is 5 stars all the way! I adore everything about this place — the chandeliers, the ceilings, the wood… I could go on and on. I would love to move into this beautiful place and call it my home! The staff was very professional, the bed was comfortable, the room was tastefully decorated and the shower was just right… everything you need for a fantastic stay!

This review is on the hotel rooms as well as the food and beverage/​catering team as we just had our wedding at the St. Regis.
My entire family is in agreement that the St. Regis went above and beyond, constantly exceeding expectations during our stay. From the moment we checked in until the moment we left, every single member of the St. Regis Team provided superb service. I felt like everyone who worked there was so happy we were having our wedding with them, as if I was the first bride they met!
The hotel itself is so beautiful. I love the décor. I had a beautiful suite with more space than I knew what to do with. The St. Regis continuously sent up wine, fruit, champagne and sweet note cards. The hospitality was unreal.
The coordination they provided for my wedding was more than I would have expected. They were more helpful than our event planners in many ways because they remained calm and always had a smile on their faces which was very comforting.
The food blew my mind. All of our guests raved! Follow Martin Keeney’s lead and listen to his recommendations. He is a true foodie and has fun sharing his ideas. He knows what works. The servers tended to my husband I throughout the evening constantly making sure we had what we needed (RED BULL!).
We are now on our honeymoon at the St. Regis Princeville in Hawaii. We are truly on a St. Regis high after the amazing experience we had. We will always have fond memories and are so grateful to the St. Regis DC for making our wedding such a beautiful day.

Typical of all St Regis properties. Extremely solid! Location is fantastic (2 blocks from the White House). Service was great. Starwood member and was treated well. Upgraded to a suite! Was worth the extra cash during Cherry Blossoms week!

The nations Capital John J. Astor style… I truly enjoy staying at this hotel when I am in DC, and will continue to do so, but it is short of 5 stars. The service is wonderful, helpful, considerate, and seem to be able to read my thoughts and appear in a cloud of Ninja smoke. The lobby and the ball rooms are worthy of stopping by just to sit, read, take pictures or have a cocktail… you might feel the urge to throw on a smoking jacket or fur stole. The bar and the restaurant ooze higher end charm (as reflected in the prices… not a shocker though).
Short story longer… the rooms need a little more care and update; I have been fortunate to enjoy a few of the suites to include the Astor, the Metropolitan, and the Empire (butlers included… cool free feature BTW) and they need a freshen up on upholstery, carpets, and the general beaten up nature of surviving the tests of time. Almost 80% of the time my room was not ready for the 3:00 check in, and 100% of those times they offered us free drinks in the bar so that may actually balance out unless you are a teetotaler. There are a few «exotic dance» clubs around the corner on K that often create unique dinner and breakfast window conversations since the dinning room has floor to ceiling windows.
Do: try to use SPG points and options here as they are happy to accept them and give perks; do have breakfast in the restaurant… killer bloody Mary’s and eggs; ask for a room that faces 16^th vice K street; try some of the old school cocktails in the bar and check out the glass walls that double as a wine cellar in the restaurant.
Do not: get a room on the second floor as you can hear noise from the bar or wedding event in the ball rooms; expect to find affordable parking within a few blocks;

The first day, they set up a coffee machine in the room (since there are none set up), which I thought was lovely. However, the next day they did not clean or replenish it, When I called the butler, she was accommodating, but not apologetic. They brought a new coffee set up, but the same thing happened again — good one day, not cleaned or replenished the next. The same thing with turn down service, there was limited turn down, with only one night of full turn down. Even replenishing the shampoo etc. was sporadic. Now, while these are certainly all first world problems, I think the St. Regis brand strives for luxury and excellence, and I have to give them an average mark here instead of outstanding.

Luxurious, beautiful décor. I didn’t stay here, but I’ve dined here and attended various events. This review is applauding their décor and the bar, which is one of my fave in DC. My fave drink is pisco sour and it’s not easily done or often that I enjoy it. It was fabulously done at their bar, with touches I hadn’t experienced before, but liked. Definitely go for a drink here and take some nice photos. I was told that Michelle Obama likes to come here for pisco sours as well. She apparently has my good taste :)

What a luxury to stay here. My room is great and looks right onto K Street. My room came with free breakfast and I feel that I have been pampered since I arrived three days ago. I would stay here just for the bedding — the sheets are amazing. An added plus is the new crossover program between Delta and Starwood hotels and the fourth night is free. It’s not where you go — it is where you stay that makes all the difference.

I would never stay here on my dime.
The hallway smells of cigarette smoke. Bathroom has light bulbs out and is the size of a guest room walk in closet. No coffee/​hot water maker. No iron/​ironing board. View of a nasty abandoned building next door and a bunch of old AC units.
This hotel doesn’t have the amenities of a 2 star hotel. I would not expect this from a St. Regis hotel.

My wife and I just came back from our trip to DC so our stay at this hotel is fresh in our minds. Here are notes from key aspects I consider important or made an impression (good and bad) from our stay:
Location — GREAT
It was literally a 5 to 10 minute walk from The White House. You could literally walk onto the sidewalk from the hotel, look down the street and see The White House. Conveniently located between two metro stops and reasonable walking distance to the Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and Vietnam War Memorial.
Room — NICE
Very spacious and the bathroom was nice. Bed was comfortable. TV was an older LCD. Furniture was old but nice. Noise was okay but you could easily hear people in the hallway (woke up our baby twice). That’s about all I have to say about this aspect.
Parking /​Valet — TERRIBLE
I called down ahead of time from our room to get our car pulled and still waited 15 to 20 minutes until our car arrived. Another time when we returned to our hotel, there was a huge backup at the valet and no one was there to take any of the cars. It was so bad that the backup when into the street and I had my wife take the baby to the room while I waited another 10 minutes before I could hand my keys to the valet attendant.
Room Service — GOOD
Called for breakfast and everything was brought to our room as expected. Didn’t take long for the food to come (the usual 10 to 15 min) and they promptly picked up the table when we told them we were done. My only complaint would be the price of the room service /​food. $ 70 for 2 plates of scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, bacon, ham, coffee, glass of orange juice. I should have gone to McDonalds down the street but when you have a 4 month old infant, I’ll pay for convenience but this was a little too much.
Hotel Staff — EXCELLENT
Everyone at the front desk, bell desk, and valet were great. I know I complained about the valet situation but the people were great… just not the actual service/​efficiency. The bell desk was very helpful in moving our luggage into and out of our room. The valet guys were awesome in helping us unload and load our rental car with all our luggage. This was our first trip with a baby so we had more luggage than we normally had but all the help from valet and the bell desk were well received.
View — WORST EVER
If you decide to stay here, ensure (at all costs) a view that faces outside the hotel! I typically don’t care about the view, but this was worth writing about because it was that bad. Although we traded a room with a better view for a room with more space (because of the baby), the trade off was not worth it. I remember staying at the YMCA hotel in New York when I was in college ($ 25/​night) and the view for that room was on par with what we had at this St. Regis. Use your imagination to think about the worst view from a hotel room (like a brick wall) and that’s basically what we had.
Price — AVERAGE
You typically get what you pay for and this location didn’t bring anything new or surprising. We’ve stayed at several St. Regis hotels so the price for this particular one and the overall hotel experience is just average for the price paid.

After checking in on Saturday, the St. Regis staff did quite a bit to make us feel very welcome, and I have a better taste in my mouth about the experience.
«Absolutely awful. If negative 5 stars was an option, they would receive less. My wife and I made a reservation 3 months in advance, only to have our room sold from under us. I was then given a greasy $ 20 to take a cab ride to a hotel down the road which they would be comping for us. Did I make a reservation at the St. Regis to stay at another less prestigious hotel? No.
I’m sure it’s a great place to stay unless there’s an event going in in DC… Oh wait, that’s every weekend. Avoid like the plague.»

For my new husband’s birthday, I wanted to do something special. Being that we live in two different cities, I thought spending a Saturday night at the St. Regis would officially crown me the best wife ever. I was right.
The St. Regis Washington DC is definitely the place for romance, business travel, or spending a nice weekend in DC. It is walking distance to the Orange Line Metro, and short walking distance to the White House, (2 blocks) and a number of museums, and things to do. We checked in and were immediately greeted with a smile. The hotel itself is stunning, with lots of history. Our room was perfection, the bed was heavenly, as I slept really well, with top notch bedding, and pillows. It has a full mini bar with some solid wine choices, and everything that you would need. The stand up shower is big enough for two (ahem, I said romance right) and the room was very quiet. In addition, they left a sweet little dessert that read Happy Birthday which was delicious! They have a 5 star restaurant in the hotel, and fantastic bar with fireplace inside. Perfect for unwinding after a long day of sightseeing, or before a night on the town. The location really cannot be beat, the service was 5 star, and the hotel gorgeous. Everything from the moment we arrived to the moment we left was amazing. I would stay there again and again if given the choice.

I travel frequently to DC for work, and have stayed at various Starwood and Marriott hotels. This St. Regis is more of a «classical» style, so expect older style rooms.
I would, overall, recommend the W (nearby and more modern plus you get the Bliss Spa perks) or the Westin Georgetown (more modern).
Pros: Beautiful architecture, great modern/​comfortable bathroom with a tv in the mirror (albeit a bit small), great location for touring since it is centralized.
Cons: Older «classical» rooms (unless if you like that style), the gym is very small.

ach ja, die Lage ist «großartig». 200 m vom «White House». Sehr plüschig das Ganze und sehr teuer (ca. 400 USD). Internet muss bezahlt werden (15USD/​Tag). Kostenlos in der Lobby. Das Fitnesscenter ist so was von trostlos in einem Kellerraum, nicht einladend. Der Frühstücksraum ist freundlich, zeitgemäß eingerichtet, dafür ist das Frühstück (kein Buffet) mäßig. Nach Georgetown sind es ca. 4 km.

This is an amazing hotel. I guess it might be expensive, but I don’t know much about that since I always handle the food and my wife handles the hotels on vacation. She said something about getting an insanely good deal though where we only had to pay half the normal rate, so I didn’t ask any questions.
Here are some of the great aspects that made me extremely glad we stayed here for our 4 day trip:
— perfect location: it’s a block north of the White House, nice and centrally located near all of the major stuff to see and do.
— FREE access to the full service Mint health club across the street. This is a huge perk — instead of the typical tiny, depressing little hotel gym, all guests here get to use this huge, state of the art gym.
— daily turndown service with free bottled water and nice, soothing classical music playing for you on your return.
— great water pressure: unlike the intolerable low flow shower heads that plague most hotels, the showers here are great. They’re like the shower heads they use to hose off circus elephants that Kramer got in that classic Seinfeld episode.
I would definitely recommend staying here, and I would easily come back if I am visiting D.C. again.

Gorgeous hotel, centrally located, great staff.
You clearly get what you pay for. The rooms were clean and super nice and the bathroom was amazing as well. The biggest problem I have with traveling is that the hotel showers are never powerful enough. This one will drown you and leave your face sore. The water was so powerful and really made my stay here that much better.
All the staff here are super friendly and helpful. You really can’t go wrong here.
