Forgot to do the latest update. After I wrote my last update, the owner recontacted me in June, demanding I take down my original post, accusing me of being the reason for her decline in business. When I told her no for several reasons, including it being unethical(and that we on Unilocal aren’t bought by companies, and especially as an Elite member, I take that seriously), that I did write an updated post reflecting her original outreach, etc. I also reminded her that I did write an updated post and I encouraged her to either publicly respond to my post or complain to Unilocal if she thought I was unfair. I wished her well in identifying the true reason of her company’s decline(I suspect it has something to do with experiences like mine and then her subsequent harassment) and asked her not to contact me again. She did not. Instead she wrote me an email that included the following: «I assure you that Unilocal does not care about small businesses like myself and even though you said that you care about small businesses like mine, your actions in this case do not hold true to your words as you have chosen to favor a huge cooperation instead of a person like me and a small business like mine. […] It truly confuses me why you would consciously choose to cause me as a person and my business such harm. « Um…whaat??? I didn’t respond. Initially I considered putting all of our exchanges on here but refrained. However, my recent review of il Canale and how their owner and manager responded in a way that makes me want to try it yet again because I think there’s something there that I just unfortunately missed the first two tries reminded me of the significant difference between that business and this. I would caution others from going here unless they want to get ripped off and then harassed.

Interesting concept, but the benefits are unproven and hygiene was questionable. I had a coupon for this, which allowed me to have 330 minute weight loss sessions, which included a body wrap and a 10 minute nutrition consultation. In communicating with the staff prior to my 1st appointment, I decided to combine the first 2 sessions into one for 1 hour. The waiting area was one chair outside the room with the body wrap — that was where I was told to sit. There was no white noise whatsoever, yet the attendant was having a normal volume conversation with me. Whoever was in the room could not have had a very relaxing experience. I discovered this when I got the body wrap and had to listen to the attendant and the next customer yakking away right outside the door. For some reason, my appointment was rushed. I was told the person before me came late — so mine did not start on time. Once I got into the body wrap, it was not for an hour, but for something closer to 50 minutes. I was a little annoyed by the feeling of being rushed through. The room itself looked like a dermatologists’ examining room. There was an open trash can with litter in it. I had the choice of sauna or body wrap. I am so glad I didn’t choose the sauna because the previous customer was just getting out, and it was not clear to me that it would be cleaned before the next person. I don’t know if they clean the body wrap equipment between sessions, you might want to check. I want to support a small business, but this was meh. I didn’t bother coming back to fulfill the rest of my Gilt coupon. The place wasn’t quiet and comforting at all, and I was grossed out worrying about germs. So when i looked back at the package at full price(without a coupon), I wondered why anyone would pay that much money.

The Skinny Spa is a slice of relaxation and bliss in the heart of one busy and stress-filled city. I heard about this Spa from a friend and I am so grateful for the recommendation. It’s kind of hidden so I probably wouldn’t have found it otherwise and I am sure glad I did. The space is beautiful and the service is top notch. Corey, who runs the spa, is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Not only did she provide one fabulous session but she gave me useful tips to stay stress and toxin free throughout the year. I went for the standard sauna and body wrap session to cleanse and detoxify during the holidays. I have been feeling very out of balance since I moved to this city so I was in desperate need of something restorative and healing. That is exactly what I found at The Skinny Spa. I came out feeling like a new, better, version of myself. And if I wasn’t ecstatic with the session alone, my clothes have been fitting looser despite a decadent holiday season! I think I am going to book an appointment now because I can’t wait to go back.
