Food was delicious! We ordered the salmon salad & crab cake entrees. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the salad was HUGE. I asked for light dressing and it had the slight taste of dressing, just the way I like it. The crab cakes were 99% crab and the slaw was tangy enough to keep your palette alive. We do signed with mango and raspberry sorbet. Sorbet was fruity with intense flavor. For drinks: house Manhattan and tang & tonic. We highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be dining in again.

A pleasant little gem that is (unfortunately) tucked away where you can’t find it unless you know to look for it. We went on a Friday evening at prime dining time and were pleased to find that the dining room wasn’t full. The meal was served promptly and it turned out to be quite tasty. I recommend the scallops.

The plaques on the walls coming into the restaurant are the best (and only worthwhile) feature of this restaurant.
It is sub-par food with terrible service at self-agrandizing prices. There were 2 servers for the entire room when we came here, and one of the servers was throwing stuff on our table. Like, the butter… «here is your butter»… *throw*. He removed our plates by hitting them (accidentally) against our glasses. He brought tea and practically threw it on the table. I am not a softie, but it was a sight to be seen.
I will not be back here, and would recommend anyone to do the same. Can’t believe the high reviews, to be honest, although I’m glad someone enjoyed their experience at this place.

Got a voucher from TravelZoo for brunch for 2 with 2 drinks each for $ 35. Beyond a steal by DC standards. I got the crab cake sandwich and was very happy. I’m not sure it’s worth paying full price, but if you can get your hands on a deal it’s a great spot!

Bland uninventive food at high prices… our $ 33 crab cakes were awful… the salads were fine but the entrees were the quality of a low rent restaurant… if you are any kind of a foodie then avoid this place… its’ time came and went in the 1950’s.

Purchased a deal for $ 49 for this place on Travel Zoo and I’m so glad I did. The deal came with 1 appetizer to share (or dessert if you opt for that instead), 2 entrees and a bottle of wine to share. I order the Certified Angus NY Strip and my BF ordered the Seared Atlantic Rockfish. Everything tasted so good. It was definitely worth what we paid andmore. Will definitely come back.

I needed a last minute venue for 10 following a conference cocktail reception at the Reagan Building. I was able to make a reservation at the very conveniently located Fourth Estate (located nearby in the Press Club building). It was a Tuesday night and my business colleagues and I appreciated the historical references in the photos lining the walls and the ambiance, the quiet setting where we could have actual conversations, and the food and wine selections.
The service was attentive and professional. I ordered the lump meat crab cakes which were so good, I ate both of them (even though I wasn’t really hungry after my spinach salad and the first crab cake).

I decided to try Saturday Brunch at the Fourth Estate using a deal that I purchased on Travelzoo. After stepping off the elevator it is easy to see why the Press Club is a popular venue. The pictures around the walls are a true walk in history.
I’m not certain if there is an executive chef cooking brunch as the meal was satisfactory. I had a custom omelet which lacked seasoning along with the chicken and waffles. It’s the first time I’ve ever had a dry overcooked waffle at a restaurant.
The service provided was good. If the Fourth Estate improves the quality of food this would be a great restaurant.

We went there for dinner last night. First lesson for this Texas girl back in DC after 20 years, a lot of the restaurants only take reservations through Open Table. Next, make sure you get the date right as the calendar defaults to the current date.
Signage is a little challenging to get to the actual restaurant, but once you get there it is quiet and perfect for conversation.
Drinks were good, service was timely and the food was very good. I had the duck breast which was perfect; another guest had the salmon; one other had the Angus steak while the last had the mushroom ravioli. Everyone was complimentary of their meals. Good portions, very reasonably priced.
Now tips to the owners:
1. Invest in some enhancements: get real menus.
2. Keep your website menu current. My mouth was watering for shrimp and grits advertised on the website but no longer offered. Better to say on a website what you know you can offer rather than set your guests up for disappointment at the beginning of the meal.

Unilocalers, here’s one of the best kept secrets in Washington DC — NPC has a fantastic restaurant that opens to the public!
The Fourth Estate has just about the venue around — service, atmosphere, reasonably priced menu, adequate selections of delicious dishes.
My favorite lunch dish is the Calamari Salad — not only it’s delicious, it looks like it made with care and there’s plenty of it.
If you’re in town for a visit, instead of going to one of the establishments close by, why don’t you bring your VIP over for lunch? It costs about the same and it doubles as a memorable experience.
Once you’ve arrived on the 13^th floor, there’s no waiting, and if there’s a line, you and your guests can walk around the hallway to see what other dignitaries had visited this place.

This place has good food, good décor, and good service.
While they are not perfect, we were very happy. I’d give them 4.5 stars.
We had a table of 8 people for Saturday night dinner. We found them on open table, then found a deal on travel zoo. The restaurant was only 25% full.
They had a mixup with our reservation and gave our requested table to a different party. However, they apologized and made it up to us.
We had crab cakes, steak, cod, and chicken. There were also salads, bottles of wine, and desserts (flan, mouse, ice cream, rhubarb tart). The only mediocre food was the 2 steaks that were overcooked. We sent one steak back and received an excellent replacement.
The service was great, the food was delicious, and the experience did not disappoint.

Came here with my husband to celebrate the fast sale of our condo and had a really nice time.
Early evening, mid-week so it wasn’t crowded at all. Our server was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu.
We were pretty hungry so we played it pretty safe. Caesar salads to start but we did split the vegetarian zucchini quesadilla; I wasn’t blown away but it was fair. I modified my tasty crab cake entrée and opted for the asparagus instead of the pineapple slaw (allergy). I’m glad they were open to substitutions. The blueberry cobbler a la mode was a delightful surprise, the cornbread crust was a yummy touch.
I have background in news so The National Press Club is kind of hallowed for me, such a rich history. It took us forever to leave because I wanted to read every picture caption!

Definitely an impressive night out. I treated my hubby to a birthday dinner here the other night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My duck entrée was amazing and my husband’s crab cakes and grits were true comfort food (the crab cakes don’t have a lot of filler, but they do feel more rich and creamy than other crab cakes I have had). For dessert, my husband got the toffee cake (delicious) and I got the raspberry and chocolate mousse duet. Served up in a martini glass, it’s is decadent and delectable! YUM YUM!
Service was super friendly and professional and the ambiance, although not incredibly «romantic,» was chill and calm and great for conversation. Perfect place to grab a dinner out of the way if you want to be away from the masses.

It’s a fun, different sort of place.
I enjoyed walking through the National Press club to get to the restaurant. All of the pictures and history make it feel like some sort of museum.
I thought the food and décor where all a bit dated (a dome of rice pilaf?), but it actually works for this place. Our server was super friendly, and the prices were on par with other places in downtown DC.
It seems like a good date place, especially if you’re both into politics, since the pictures and whatnot will definitely spawn some conversation.
I doubt I’ll go back, but its worth checking out.

Definitely one of the best kept secrets in DC! And you don’t have to be a member of the press to dine here? I’m sold! Was lucky to have had lunch here with several colleagues and an employee of the National Press Club.
I had the Seared Scallops, Lemon Beurre Blanc, Sautéed Spinach and Red Lentils Rice. The flavor of everything on the plate was exactly how I love it to be. The scallops were just the right temperature, the sauce had so much flavor (!) and the spinach and lentil rice were perfect side dishes. I’m not a fan of plain spinach but when mixed with the creamy sauce, it was so good!
For dessert i shared a bit of heaven. A sweet biscuit with whipped cream? and pieces of fruit — so good! I don’t like chocolate (I know I’m one of few women who don’t) so to have a dessert dish that did not have any chocolate was a nice change.
The added treat: Executive Chef Susan Delbert came out to our table to talk with us and she was incredibly nice.
The bathrooms were a bit of a hike but I don’t mind especially because they were clean.
Overall, I can’t wait to go back!

I went here after purchasing a $ 49 dinner for two from TravelZoo.
It was a little tricky to find the place, but thanks to tips from the other reviews, that wasn’t too much of an issue. Just remember that there are two different elevators (they have signs directing you to the proper one).
The hostess was great as well as the servers. While I was there, the crowd seemed to be older (~30+) and saw families, groups of friends, and couples. Appearance looked like fine dining, but pretty relaxed atmosphere.
As far as food goes, I had:
Winter Fruit Salad with Grapefruit, Pineapple and Kiwi over Spinach — Nothing special to me, to be honest I didn’t eat the entire thing even though it was very light.
Grilled NY Strip Steak — I had it cooked medium, it was tasty, but again, nothing special.
I’m not much of a champagne drinker, so I can’t really comment on that.
Overall, the service was great, but the food was just okay. I wouldn’t go here for the food, but if you’re interested in seeing all the pictures and such (it is in the National Press Building) it might be worth a trip.

Very disappointed this time! Decided to have lobster again in their Lobster Night on the last Wednesday of every month. The presentation was fine, the lobster looked fat and juicy, that is until I bite into it. It was over cooked to the point of chewy! I told the waiter too. The funny thing is that the claws is perfect! How can that happen! If you boil the lobster, the meat’s quality should be consistent for the whole Lobster. The service is good as usual, and the roast potatoes is great, but the Lobster was a real disappointment. Although they have a deal last night that if you dress up as a lobster, you get the lobster free!

Food — Shrimp Risotto was good. They give you jumbo shrimps.
Service — Not excellent but, above average.
Atmosphere — Quiet, older (40 – 90 years old) crowd. Décor is also dated. No view.

I bought a $ 49 dinner for 2 deal on Travel Zoo otherwise I would not have known about this place. I had the Shrimp Risotto, my husband had the steak and my son had the pork chop. They all were very delicious. Service was great too. One of the servers was teaching my son how to fold napkin in various shapes.
They also validate for parking. Go to the PMI garage on G Street between 13^th and 14^th St.
