Tenleytown Ace Hardware

These guys have been very helpful every time i have gone in. a young man went way out of his way to help me find a range of choices of what i was looking for just before xmas.

I wanted to post this review mainly because of an experience yesterday involving one of their young staff members named Justin, who deserves some kind of award for customer service over and beyond the call of duty. One simply does not often see, these days, people as helpful as Justin was to me and my wife.
Because of some leg problems, I am using a walker, and the particular one I’m using has two wheels in front but in back two feet onto which we had put some plastic «ski-​type» sliders. At some point the day before yesterday one of the sliders broke, with the «ski» part lost but the part of the shaft that is embedded in the walker leg still inside, and wedged so tightly that nothing my wife could do, either to pry it out or to get it out by any other means, worked. And there was no way a new slider could be put into that leg of the walker without removing that piece of tough, thick plastic.
We went into this hardware store hoping that we might be able to get some type of tool that could get this piece out. When my wife asked the store clerk about this, he said, «Let me take a look at it,» and proceeded, first to try to pry it out or saw it with a sort of Swiss-​Army-​knife type of tool he had in his pocket, and then he went into the stock and got a power drill, which finally did the job. He made no sale in this interaction, but made me very happy. That is, as I said, customer service over and beyond the call of duty.

Their customer service (and quality key) made my evening today.

The store is a great addition to the Tenleytown Area of Washington DC, however their cost is extremely high compared to other hardware stores.
The staff is curious and friendly, in my opinion «OVERLY HELPFUL» to the point of being in the store for 5 minutes ¾’s of the staff will ask if you need help. Its a good thing but annoying most times.
The reason for the Two (2) stars is because of the prices. I understand that an independently owned franchise per store is expensive to sometimes run, but keep in mind of the cost of your greater competitors. Like Home Depot/​Lowes, try to compensate for your competition.
Just to get the same type of copper pipe of ¾″ 10ft, which at home depot is $ 16. Ace charging $ 32 is price gouging, and not in all fairness good business. I could understand if the price was $ 19.99 because your compensating stocking. But to charge $ 18 per 60″ is ludicrous.
The other issue is they don’t even «PRICE MATCH» retail competitors like Home Depot or Lowes. you would think there in the business to help home owners/​contractors in a bind. That’s a flat no, there in the money making business more than helping the economy flourish by keeping low prices.
What I’ve explained above is an example of 4/5^th’s of their inventory and I hope this post helps those who are in need of being educated to spot the extreme prices. Just know what you are looking for beforehand is my advice.
Overall, the store is a great addition but pricy as all git-​go like the container store above it.
Last note, Hechinger’s which was a hardware store prior was a better addition before Best Buy, The Container Store & Ace Hardware came into play in my utmost honest opinion.

Just had the worst service at this Ace store. After fighting to get into the parking lock, and with no personalized help except for someone shouting at me across the store, I got to the register with my items only to be told by the rude cashier that my item did not have a SKU. When I just stood their waiting she shoved the item back into my hand and said she could not leave the register. Meanwhile there were two male clerks just steps away. I asked how this was my problem. No help so I just left the item in the store. I will get it and my other items someplace else. Should mention that my family owns an ACE store in another state. Unbelievable.

It’s so convenient having a hardware store that’s not only super close to home, but has free parking. Ace gets 5 stars in the customer service hands down, the only reason for 4 stars is the limited selection of lumber and paint, which is constrained due to store size. Other than those small issues, you can find about anything in this hardware store. Highly recommend.

This is a solid Ace Hardware in a convenient DC location. It is a bit small, but the staff was very knowledgable. They walked me through the best supplies and method for cleaning out my kitchen and bathroom fans. They also validate parking, which is great. This is my new go-​to place for hardware (since the Ace in Glover Park is now closed, sadly).

The store is small but I am told by the owners it is their most successful store. The employees are nice. The floor layout is a bit odd but you can get help quickly. Metro accessible.

I love this place. It has everything you need for reasonable prices. The staff is really friendly and helpful.
The only downside is it can be really busy on the weekends, but that’s only because it’s so great!

Very positive experience here! We walked in looking for someway to attach our new DC plate to a car we inherited from PA (where only the back plate is required). We found Jeanette, who was EXTREMELY helpful for us. We explained our needs, and she took out a license plate frame from the package to see if it would fit. After we found that it did not work, she took our license plate in the back and drilled some extra holes in it so that it would fit. We only paid for the screws and fasteners that we ultimately needed to attach the plate. Truly is The Helpful Place!

Just had the best retail experience of my life here. Door greeter warned paint dept by headset what I was seeking, paint dept person was waiting for me and walked me to what I needed, then walked me to next employee I needed to replace car key battery, which he did with screwdriver in his pocket, then checked me out. Awesome. A DC plus: paint dept person is an economist with Commerce Dept.

Always great, personalized service. I am happy to pay a bit more to support Tenleytown Ace. They have a wide product selection and I always search there to avoid driving to the dreaded HD.

I came here and got terrific customer service from Shane. The store seemed to have a lot of knowledgeable employees available to help. They had everything we needed, and it’s a very convenient location outside the Tenley metro station.

Amazing. The most friendly customer service of any store I have ever been in. I love going here just to have 3 different people ask me if I need help with something. Great store.

A ton of home goods and hardware at good prices, with helpful and friendly staff. I was glad to find out they validate parking and their flexibility it much appreciated – their duplicated keys didn’t work the first time around and they made a new set without hesitation when I returned to let them know. I will definitely keep this Ace Hardware as the go-​to hardware store for my DC needs.

Great local hardware store like the old days! Wide and varied selection of home, garden, repair items for the entire house. Plenty of helpful staff on floor who will walk you through your shopping list — like where do you keep the #6 brass flat head wood screws! They seem to have a bit of everything or will order something for pickup a couple days later. We have been going since they opened.
Saves a trip to the big box stores outside the beltway.
Yesterday we went for outdoor patio furniture and got a metal table and 2 chairs with cushions for $ 129. The floor walkers carried it to my car and put the set into the car — no work for me. My wife got her list filled of filters, gardening stakes, wire fencing, bedside clock, grass seed, birdseed… you get the picture.
Yesterday we were helped by 4 different staff and the assistant manager, Ryan.
In the big box stores I have to look for the right expert who may be 2 aisles over helping someone else.
Hence, five stars. Keep up the excellent service.

This place has saved my life on many an occasion. I’m used to wandering aisles aimlessly when I enter a store, but every time I come into this one, someone greets me and lets me know exactly where to find what I’m looking for. The prices are great, too!
Everyone here seems like they really like to work here, which is refreshing. My only criticism is that it isn’t closer to where I live!

Awesome service. within a minute of walking in that door, someone will ask you if you need help. I went in to buy a $ 10-​$ 20 air filter I walked out with a $ 4 one after I was advised quoting studies that unless I had allergies, I would be better off with the cheaper air filter. Imagine that, not trying to upsell you… now that’s service!
Only downside is that this is a relatively small store and is sometimes out of the exact item I want.

I don’t give out too many 5-​star ratings, but this place deserves it. When working in retail, customer service is of utmost importance, sometimes even higher ranked than pricing. Ace Hardware delivers on this in such a way that I believe it’s the friendliest, most useful, best hardware store here in D.C. I’ve never left here without feeling able to successfully finish that project at home.
The hardest thing to deal with about Ace Hardware is simply finding it. But don’t worry, I got you covered. First off it’s right next to the metro — the west side of Tenleytown AU metro station. You walk out that station and go into the building direclt in front of you. Take the escalators to the right so you’re downstairs and walk out to the parking garage. Make a right and voila — Ace Hardware ready for your every need (in hardware at least!)
I’d say the only other thing is that the place is pretty tight — not too much space, but having the help of great staff you’ll easily find what you’re looking for. Oh — one cool thing I just did this weekend was find out you can rent drills here. Only $ 10 for 24 hours.
Go get something done!

I went back here to get my ceiling paint tinted. I must admit that this time around, the service was 100% better. Someone greeted me at the door and the guy taking care of the paint was knowledgeable and answering my questions. However, when I was getting my paint tinted, he noticed that the prior salesman sold me the incorrect base # for one of the cans. That kind of sucked that the prior saleman had done that.
I can’t give this place more than 3 stars since my service here has been quite different both times.
