Nothing special about this place unfortunately. Food seems to be unnecessarily overpriced and not worth it in terms of taste.

I WASHARASSEDBYONEOFTHESERVERSBECAUSE I DIDN’T TIP! She followed me outside in the cold. I told her that I didn’t have and cash, and that I didn’t feel comfortable tipping with my card. She responded by saying«that’s what the tip line on the card is for.» THEN, said«don’t come back here» and walked away. I called the restaurant later in the day to speak with the GM. I was told that he was in THAILAND and wouldn’t be back until the end of the month.

Mediocre sushi. Lackluster rolls. Staff is more interested in chatting with each other or being on their cell phone. A completely meh experience.

We stopped at this restaurant on our way back to the hotel and right after we ordered we looked at the reviews and got worried because they are not too good. But our food was actually very good we had the dinner special with teriyaki chicken, edamame, rice, California roll, salad, and miso soup and everything was very fresh and tasty.

Do not eat here. It’s a sushi restaurant with no rolls? Pros: none Cons: They seriously only have 5 basic rolls such as california, spicy tuna, philadelphia and that’s it! Insane… Fish was slimy, and not fresh. Service poor. Menu limited. Very over-priced. Strange part is that it was busy and packed even though service sucked and dining area was very cramped. Will never eat here again.

I love this spot! My go to when I am working late. It’s located in my work building and super close to Metro Center which is so convenient. The sushi is fresh, the staff is friendly, decent prices, no complaints. They have an awesome Happy Hour that is the most affordable in DC. Definitely a spot I take visitors.

The reason I give this a 1 star is for the simple fact they employed the disgust practice of overcharging for liquor. I ordered a well drink but when I received the bill from the young-ish waiter) I don’t know … late 20’s Japanese guy), it showed a Patron. 1) I ordered a well; 2) it wasn’t even Patron. So, TWO parts shady. Needless to say, I will not be returning there.

Terrible food. Poor quality of ingredients(fish is too thick when made sashimi). Won’t be back

Not my favorite restaurant. Went to lunch with some coworkers and it was very busy. They had a lunch box special for $ 13.95 and you could get edamame, a salad, rice, California rolls and your choice of meat teriyaki. There was a lot of food and the service was okay. I would probably choose a different restaurant based on the space(it was a very small restaurant), the service wasn’t the greatest and it was very busy around 1 for lunch. The waitress was also not helpful and wasn’t very attentive. I would not go back.

If a Japanese place can’t make chicken teriyaki properly, that tells a lot a lot the qualify of the place. Sushi doesn’t look too good although I didn’t order sushi. Rice was undercooked. Would give it 1 stat but miso soup was OK, so they got 1.5 stars from me total.

Two words. Warm nigiri. Two more. Slimy shit. So apparently that’s not enough words for Unilocal to list as a review. So let me add some more. Terrible. Awful. Disgusting. Slimy. These all describe the fish quality at this place.

Observations: Order tickets placed on all the sushi and sashimi — YUCK! See photos. Sashimi pieces butchered and hacked, not sliced cleanly as it should be — See photos. Water and green tea pitchers left out in the open on the counter where anything can fall into it. — Gross! Clearly this place has no sense of food preparation safety. Unacceptable. Service painfully slow.

Bleghhh. I ordered a Tekkadon and a Agedashi Tofu. Tekkadon was a total failure– rice was unevenly cooked and mushy, and the fish was watery from a pitiful de-frosting process. I think this is the first time I’ve ever felt compelled to leave a tekkadon unfinished, in any Japanese restaurant. Agedashi tofu– the battering/frying was done adequately, but they used the wrong kind of tofu(should be silken, not the semi-stiff«silken» they sell at typical grocery stores) and gave almost no broth. The broth was pretty insipid, too. Definitely not coming back.

My DRAGONROLL was good my spicy tuna roll tasted like it was StarKist out of a can. Service was good 40 dollars it was worth more like 12 dollars. The best part it was a cold raining night and it was only a block from the Grand Hyatt.

Probably the worst sushi I’ve ever eaten. Not the least bit fresh and super expensive. There are far better sushi spots within short walking distance from Metro Center. The yellowtail was OK, but definitely not the freshest. My son’s eel roll was just blah. He said he’d had better from the supermarket. I might go back again if I were hungry, but for the prices… way, way too high for the quality of food and size as portions.

Very good sushi, at very reasonable prices. The tempura shrimp dinner is delicious, and the sushi very fresh. Highly recommended.

Confusion on arrival as the sign said ‘Closed’; we alerted them to this but there were no thanks. Ordered drinks only to be told that the Shiraz was not included in Happy Hour. Unfortunately my psychic powers were weakened by the sightseeing and when I asked if the Malbec was included, I was told«No». Great. If your HH wine list is just going to say $ 6 on selected wines, at least give us a clue. Nonetheless I stuck with the Shiraz for being stuck there all day; I’m no Lionel Blair. The starters of Yakitori and Yasai Tenpura were great and drink top ups were attentive and regular, although the table water was noticeably missed by my temple veins and I. Starters were snatched away as soon as feasible, despite a husband having not finished. Sometimes this Thai-Style service can be forgiven, but maybe not when only 2 other tables are being served. The entrées represented good value for money and the Salmon Teriyaki was good for the amount of Salmon that you get., although the sauce could have been thicker and more plentiful. No dessert menu was offered so I reciprocated by tipping in coins.

*Ho-Hum* [insert a sigh] As the rest of the reviews stated Sushi Aoi is «just okay». If you are looking for sushi and no funny business, come to Sushi Aoi and they will treat you right. There is nothing special about this place or unfortunately the sushi. If you are looking for food in a convenient location downtown and don’t expect anything more, then this is your place. Keep in mind that the sushi is just average.

Pros: This place is conveniently located downtown(right near McPherson Square and Metro Center) and runs good specials during their happy hour. Cons: You get what you’re paying for– this is below-average sushi. Got two of the $ 5 sushi rolls from the happy hour menu here, and they were both disappointing. If you are looking for food from a functional perspective(that is, to sustain life) this is your place, but don’t expect anything more. The sushi is just not very good here.
