Stephen Hoyt – State Farm Insurance Agent

As Stephen himself defined his company, he likes to think of State Farm as the «cream of the crap.» It’s crap, for sure, and he helps to insure that it stays that way. Having had him as my agent for over 10 years, and paid significantly over $ 100,000.00 during that time (I had to buy my own health insurance as I worked for myself), I turned 65 and he sold me medi-​gap part F. They denied a claim for routine blood work that I was assured by medicare and by various doctors that was always covered. Stephen assured me that it was covered… it wasn’t. When it was turned down, he assured me that he appealed it… he didn’t. He also promised to pay it personally if State Farm didn’t…he didn’t. Over the years, and more towards the later years he lost more papers, forgot to do what he promised, forgot to return calls or my emails, etc. When asked a question about insurance, he began to tell me his latest anecdote about himself, and I never got answers to my questions regarding insurance. He was once a decent agent… but in my opinion, he’s «aged out.»

Returning from a trip, I discovered a derecho storm (June 2012) had decapitated two huge, over 80 years’ old tulip poplars, collapsed much of a long fence, and landed a large branch on my neighbor’s porch. One call to Stephen Hoyt gave me the State Farm mediator who asked for estimates for the fence replacement and for clean-​up. Within twenty-​four hours of my faxing the estimates to the mediator, I had a check for the fence Replacement and for the maximum debris clean-​up allowed. What a relief and a pleasure to deal with such professionals in a time of disaster and insurance need!
