Description

History

Established in 2012.

Sixth Engine is a contemporary American neighborhood restaurant and tavern located in the historic firehouse at 438 Massachusetts Avenue. The building is one of the oldest firehouses in the District and the first of Cluss’s nearly 100 buildings to be constructed in D.C. in the late 19th century. It’s one of only 11 still standing. The kind of fires we’re putting out have changed a bit, but the original crest still hangs above our door.

This eatery is born of the fire in the bellies of five long-serving D.C. restaurateurs and longtime friends. Jeremy Carman, Gavin Coleman, Paul Holder, Paul Madrid, and Tim Walsh are also the names behind Town Hall restaurant and bar in Glover Park and the Dubliner Irish pub in Capitol Hill.
