Principal Attorney Karen Shinskie graduated from Harvard Law School and began her legal career in 2001 at the U. S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division in Washington D.C., where she worked as a trial attorney enforcing federal voting rights laws for approximately 5 years. From 2006 until 2013, Ms. Shinskie worked as criminal prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. She handled hundreds of cases during her seven years as a prosecutor, and was the lead attorney in more than 40 trials before judges and juries in the D.C. Superior Court. Ms. Shinskie was a senior AUSA in the Domestic Violence and Sex Offense section of U.S. Attorney’s Office, where she specialized in prosecuting violent interfamily felony offenses and sexual assault. After resigning from federal service, Ms. Shinskie has focused on family law. She is a volunteer attorney with the D.C. Family Court Self-Help Center and her firm represents clients in the full range of family law matters.
