I recently went to Shah and Shah to see about having a family heirloom replicated as a gift for my mother. From the moment I began working with Caroline and Colin, I knew they had a life long customer. The care they put into creating an experience for their customers and most importantly the quality and craftsmanship of their jewelry is truly unparalleled. They managed to maintain the integrity of the designed, while to make the ring even more beautiful than the original.
I can’t wait to work with them again!

I started coming to Shah and Shah when I needed to purchase a wedding band and didn’t have a lot of time. We worked with Faith to create a band that complimented my engagement ring but could be worn solo as well. the price was extremely reasonable, the work was flawless and it was done in less than two weeks (other jewelers said 6 — 8).
Since then, I’ve come back a number of times for me and with friends looking for something special. Colin, Emily and Caroline are always friendly, helpful and never ever pushy.
You can try on anything in the store — from gold studs to flawless engagement rings to cocktail rings that take you back in time. There is no pressure to buy, no pressure to upsize and no budget is too small to work with. I recommend Shah and Shah to everyone looking for jewelry and, to a person, they all call with nothing but raves.

Day. Made.
I never thought I’d be a gal who had a jeweler. I just didn’t think it was me. But, one day, I accompanied Alejandra and Jenna to Shah & Shah. I remember telling Colin Shah, «I’m just here with them, I’m not looking. Jewelry isn’t really my thing.» He gave us the run of the place and didn’t place any pressure on us. We tried on everything from cool boho silver bracelets to vintage Rolexes to crazy diamond sparklers. And, I became smitten with a small rose gold band set with black diamonds. I didn’t know something could be so me. So, I bought it for myself to celebrate a promotion. Which became a tradition… Score a huge career win? Go see Colin to memorialize it. They have been a physical reminder of a lot of hard work, risk taking, sacrifice and celebration.
Launching Verified Strategy was certainly one of those big moments. But start up financing a business on your own means a strict budget. So, I figured… when I grow more, I’ll go see Colin.
But, this morning a package arrived. Colin sent me this perfect rose gold bracelet that matches my milestone rings.
I love that he was that thoughtful — and has the confidence in me that I’ll be a success and be back in the store soon. I remember he said it when we first met, «I don’t just want you to buy something and leave… This is a long term relationship and we will celebrate those milestones.» Very, very cool.

Colin and his staff are very knowledgeable and welcoming. Over the years I’ve purchased a locket, diamond bracelet and a luxury watch from S&S and have been very happy with everything. S&S offers value and very high quality jewelry and I also use S&S for repair/​service for our watches and jewelry. We are customers for life.

My first piece with Colin was an engagement ring, which as most know, is an important and sometimes scary purchase. I learned so much from him as we worked together to get the perfect diamond and setting. The result was awesome, and I have gone to Colin for many pieces since.

My fiancé and I were absolutely delighted by our experience buying an engagement ring at Shah & Shah. Every step of the way, Colin and Catherine provided incredible customer service — it was everything I was hoping for (and more) in my jewelry shopping experience!
When I first started looking for engagement rings, I felt lost at sea, browsing through online retailer websites, and I had a tough time getting comfortable talking with sales associates at the chain jewelry stores. Fortunately, I mentioned to an old friend at a happy hour that I was starting to shop around for rings, and he told me about his experience with Shah & Shah from years before, raving about their quality products, trustworthiness, and customer service. I called up Shah & Shah the next day to setup an appointment.
After an initial phone conversation about ring types and price ranges, I arrived at the store to find an enchanting, intimate environment that immediately put me at ease. Catherine had prepared a variety of stones and ring types to walk me through the ring design process. She and Colin were very warm and patient in helping me choose the perfect ring, even as I asked dozens and dozens of questions over the course of the afternoon! They are incredibly knowledgeable about their profession. It was a very relaxed conversation — they were not pushy at all. If anything, they helped provide the right guidance to make sure I stayed well within my budget. And in the end, I found their prices very competitive with other places I had looked.
My fiancé could not be happier with her ring — and Shah & Shah continues to be incredibly helpful even after the original purchase, offering a complimentary resizing to make sure the fit is perfect, and complimentary cleanings at any time. We were so happy with the ring that we returned to get our wedding bands, and again found amazing customer service and competitive prices.
It’s clear that Colin and Catherine really value their customers and look forward to building long-​term relationships. I feel lucky to have found Shah & Shah — they are a true gem!

Shah & Shah is a truly special place and a remarkable experience — I am so thankful a friend referred my fiancé here when he was shopping for engagement rings. I have a stunning diamond on a diamond band that was hand crafted by Colin, the one in a million jeweler, to fit my individual style and taste. It was also really important to me that my hubby-​to-​be enjoyed the experience, so Shah & Shah was the perfect fit. I love the privacy and attention you get at Shah & Shah as you comb through the beautiful pieces, try things on, and get a sense of what works best for you. The two of us went back to Shah & Shah to pick our wedding bands and had the opportunity to celebrate our engagement all over again with a team of people who had been so excited and involved leading up to the proposal. Getting along so naturally with the jeweler has been such a great experience when making big decisions! (Also, now that Colin knows my unique style and personality, it’s exciting to know I have an advocate for my personal preferences the next time the man in my life pops in to get something special!)

I’ve made two purchases from Shah & Shah and both have been excellent experiences. The salespeople are knowledgeable and attentive, offering a personable and personal experience that you don’t get from larger chains.
Most recently, Catherine spoke with me regarding re-​setting a pair of diamond earrings that I had which didn’t suit me at all. I was hesitant at first, but I’m so glad that I ultimately decided to take her advice, because they look amazing in their new bezel settings! She knew what I wanted and what would look good on me even better than I did myself!

There’s no good way to say this so, I’ll just go ahead & spit it out: my maiden last name is the same name of this business (no relation whatsoever). So, imagine the excitement I felt when I was 2mo into my engagement & learned of this jeweler based in MY city, of all places! It felt like kismet. So, it pains me to give 1 star to a biz that bears the last name I had for 30yrs… simply put: I didn’t just want to love them, I wanted to fall madly in love w/S&S & get my ring from them. For reasons I won’t describe here, my fiancé proposed w/​o a ring so, we had nearly an entire yr to look for & purchase «the ring» & so, I was excited to take my time in working w/S&S.
I first learned of S&S when I met Colin Shah at a networking function; he seemed kind & like an overall nice guy — he actually made me feel like he wanted my business. He was quick to give his card, & I was even quicker on making appt via email.
What came next, after entering their office w/​my fiancé — was what assured that I’d never return.
The friendly, eager-​to-​have-​your-​business Colin wasn’t there. He was there physically, but the personality/​mentality was of someone else. We walked in (their office is tiny & split into 2 parts — front area is showroom & back is open office area with/​desks, a vault, & that’s where they conduct all the business). I’d just walked in off a busy K street, & wanted to just take a deep breath & relax but w/​lack of seating in front & total openness (no doors sectioning front from back) — I felt the comfort AND privacy of the coveted ring shopping experience was compromised. As we waited, we asked receptionist to direct us to which showcase had some engagement ring examples [of work they’ve done or can do] & she was of no help. So, we just kinda stood around (for ~20mins) (why make appt?) & stared at their random jewelry in showcases.
Anyway, after waiting, we were greeted by a woman who acted like she was doing us a favor — no excitement or personality detected; I’ll call her «DD» [Debbie Downer]. I was a bit taken aback bc I’d come in there so smiley & excited to just freaking be there & I was under impression our appt would be w/​Colin — he’d made it seem as such after I emailed him,& his receptionist did, too. When we sat down, DD says, «Have you all ring shopped before?» & of course, we told her it was our first time but that we’d once quickly stopped into DeBeers @ Tyson’s Galleria just for a quick peek. To which she replied, «I used to work there.» Awkward pause. And, she went on to ask us who helped us there & whatnot… nothing related to our appt. I looked at Colin a few feet away — he didn’t look over at all, never smiled, & that made the vibe weird… bc he was literally only a few feet away. However, he was w/​what I’ll assume is a very valued customer — she was an older woman who — from everything I heard — either had a lot of money or was buying substantial amount of jewelry or both. It felt odd to hear the whole convo & watch him in action & not so much as get a «hello.»
Long story short… my fiancé is not a picky guy. When DD asked if there was anything specific he had in mind, all he said is he def didn’t want a chocolate diamond for me. And what does she put out first? A chocolate diamond! Almost trying to convince us about it. The way she dealt w/​us just didn’t feel like any ring consultant would deal with first timers. No books, no real visuals (except for loose diamonds, or anything). We were utterly confused. Finally, Colin came over & was cordial (yes! just cordial), but then awkwardly asked to speak to my fiancé alone. Turns out he whisked him away to talk pricing & the talk basically ended w/​Colin pretty much saying my fiancé’s budget was too low, that they do business at a certain level of $, & to call him back when he was ready to up his budget or talk more. WHAT!?! Is that how you respond to someone who already has a budget in the early 5 figures?! I don’t get it. It’s like they didn’t give a darn about our business & it showed bc I never got any follow-​up from them. When my fiancé shared w/​me what he & Colin talked about, I was appalled & immediately began researching where else we could take our business. And, we did just that: Vishal Hemrajani of Pave Jewelers was a true Godsend. I’m sort of glad I had this horrid experience with S&S or I wouldn’t have the beautiful ring I have today.

If you are looking for stunning, bespoke jewlery, Shah and Shah is the place to go in Washington. Colin Shah designed a beautiful rose gold engagement ring and I’m excited to see my ring paired with my engagement ring. Colin has great ideas if you are looking for something different and offers great advice. My fiancé was pleasantly surprised at the ease of purchasing the ring and genuining enjoyed working with Colin.

Shah & Shah were absolutely wonderful. I came to the engagement ring buying process a total rookie (as do most people), but being a recent college graduate with a modest bank account I was also as a rookie to large purchases in general. Needless to say I was a bit nervous to start.
When I came to the door of Shah & Shah, I was expecting a smooth talking salesman trying to take advantage of my naivety. Mike Shah was the complete opposite. He is the father in the father-​son duo that make up this company, which has been a family owned DC establishment for four generations. He reminds me of someone’s benevolent and keen grandfather, sensitive but savvy with a twinkle in his eye and grin on his face.
Mike Shah was very gracious and obliging. He spent many hours educating me in the various points of cut, color, and carat. My indecisiveness, which would have brought a lesser salesman to vexation, was met with patience and understanding. During the process, I brought Mike design for a unique engagement ring, and he worked closely with me to sketch out the design and help me model it three dimensionally, leaving me confident that he could execute the custom job perfectly. Moreover, he entertained literally every pricing option possible, helping me choose the one that would get me the best bang for my buck.
And speaking of buck, Shah & Shah is not too hard on the wallet. Mike let me compare the diamond he eventually sold me with diamonds of equivalent quality on Blue Nile, to show me the price differential. Because of their location in an office building rather than a store front, Shah & Shah can really reduce prices due to lack of overhead. And boy did they. After designing the custom made band that I wanted, Mike even threw in extra diamonds on the side for no extra charge. His reason? He wanted the ring to look the best possible and when he was lining up the diamonds, he didn’t think it looked quite right.
Mike is clearly an artist when it comes to jewelry designs. He would not cut costs to produce a less than ideal ring. My fiancé was delighted with the ring and so was I. I couldn’t be happier with Mike Shah and Shah & Shah jewelers.

Absolutely fantastic jeweler. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. I was brought to this jeweler by way of a colleague just after I got engaged. I’m not particularly well-​versed when it comes to jewels and jewelry (up until my engagement, I’d only been wearing a ring I’ve had on my finger since I was 12 and hoop earrings). My colleague brought me to Shah to get my ring sized down a bit. She’d been getting jewelry repaired and has let me accompany her on the way to pick them up. On my first visit (a Wednesday), I was helped by Colin, who was very laid-​back, personable and funny. Upon examining my ring, he advised that he could have it resized and back to me by the following Wednesday. But after realizing that I’d only JUST received the ring and probably would like to show it off a bit, he suggested that I keep it with me and bring it back on the following Monday. That way I“d only be without it for a couple days.
I came back on Monday (after the horrible storm that had passed through DC). I really didn’t expect them to be open – as I know many people were dealing with power outages in the area. But Faith and Michael were there. They welcomed me in, explained that Colin was out, but they were more than willing to help me.
Michael advised that there may be a slight delay (July 4^th week, but he just MIGHT be able to get it fixed fairly quickly) He then let me inspect my diamond – showing me my diamond’s distinct ‘feather’ in the microscope. He took the ring and told me he’d have it fixed as soon as possible.
I got to chat a bit with both of them (and realized halfway through that this is afamily owned business – and THIS was the family). They are really passionate about art – and really fun to talk to. Great GREAT people and they’re from this area – so they have a lot of love for DC and the people.
Beyond that, I got a call late MONDAY (same day I dropped it off) letting me know that the ring was fixed and ready for me to pick up! So I was only without it for less than a DAY! AND – it fits PERFECTLY.
I am so grateful for this place and proud to have them as MY new jeweler. I cannot say enough positive things about them.

I also found the price for my ring adjustment to be quite affordable (unexpected really). I plan to go back there to shop for a gold chain and possibly my wedding bands! :-)

Shah & Shah is family jeweler with imagination and quality. The shop is in a nondescript office in the middle of DC. The jewelry however will captivate you. You will find almost any metal or stone. If you have an idea, they will help you bring it to life. Shah approaches the art of jewelry making with the aim of creating something that meets your aesthetic, rather than getting into a numbers game of price and weight. The good news though is that prices are very reasonable.
I highly recommend Shah and Shah for any custom jewelry.
