Renaissance Washington, DC Dupont Circle Hotel

Pros: location is very convenient. Rooms are very clean. Metro and shops are at walking distance. Bar is excellent. Concierge lady is very helpful.
Cons: rooms are very very small. Beds are twin size. After placing the beds there is hardly 5 ft space left all over. Another thing I don’t like is they do not provided toilette stuff like shampoo soap conditioner in small bottles instead there is soap shampoos locked against the wall for multiple use. It’s very very congested. Internet charges are also high as compared to speed.

We had a nice comfortable stay at the Renaissance Dupont for a weekend. The beds were especially comfortable, and that being the most important factor gets a hotel 2 stars right off the bat. The Renaissance is situated quite close to everything you’d need in order to have a good retreat in DC. Public transportation isn’t far; plus, cabs are usually circling nearby. There are alot of eateries within walking distance… not across the street per-​say, but about 10 – 20 min walk thru nice neighborhoods up a ways. The concierge was very helpful during our stay, giving us information on how to get around without paying double by taking our car out of their garage too much. One of our rooms had an issue that was fixed within hours on the day we arrived and no other problems arose after that.

Love the place. Except for one weird issue the sink is so cl9se to the toilet that you can barely… really weird. Love Marriotts but wonder what they were thinking?

One of the evenings during my stay the hotel was full of young twenty somethings who were loud and disruptive on my floor and several other floors (confirmed by my colleagues who were on different floors). I called front desk twice between 10:30pm and midnight and asked them to stop the partying. Despite attempts they were not successful. There comes a time when I think you have to ask guests to leave if they can’t behave. This was one of those times. It was like staying a frat house.

Clean friendly and a very modern lobby. Unfortunately I can not say the same for the rooms, they are obviously quite out of date yet still cozy and clean. Just antiquated. Staff was great accept for a woman who made me give my breakfast back because it was only for a soccer team, which wasn’t made clear to me until my plate was filled. Seemed wasteful and rude to me but I won’t judge the whole hotel on her singular failure as a human being.

Our recent stay at the hotel was well worth it.
Centrally located and close to the D.C. Metro.
The room was nice, the amenities Ok, the location, was prime, especially if your visiting D.C.
The Renaissance is a great Hotel, the staff were
attentive, professional and I would strongly recommend it.

Probably rates 3.5 stars, not 4, but I’ll round up for a few reasons:
Good:
Great location near GWU — easy walk.
Super friendly valet/​bellhop team.
Excellent housekeeping staff.
Decent room with comfortable surroundings.
Fairly quiet.
Super-​speedy elevators — love!
Nice lobby area with coffee and bar.
Excellent rate found online.
Not-​so-​great:
$ 49 a day for parking (my rental car was $ 60 and the room was $ 135!)
WiFi was not included — I used my mobile hotspot instead.
Room was showing signs of wear.
Couldn’t get the blackout shade closet tightly — velcro?
Terrible:
Late night desk clerk. I showed up at 12:30 AM, gave her my name and she looked at me completely uninspired and said, «Nope, you don’t have a reservation.»
Keep in mind, I had been traveling all day from California, had my son and daughter with me and had GWU dorm check-​in the following morning (I didn’t need any trouble, confusion or bad attitude.)
After nervously showing her all my confirmation emails on my mobile phone, she began preparing a room key… does this mean I have a place to stay for the next four days?!
I had to ask, «Did you find my reservation?» Her reply, «Yeah, two nights.» Me, «No, I’m booked for four nights.» Her, «Okay.»
Thankfully, the night bellhop was so awesome, my confidence was restored a bit.
I enjoyed my stay for the rest of the visit and had a pleasant experience overall. In fact, I’ve booked another four nights in October, but I’ll be checking in around 6PM, so I’m hoping for a much better experience.
I get the night shift sucks, but c’mon girl… you can do better.

Came here while a friend was staying in DC and lets just say I will book this hotel whenever in DC. The staff is friendly and amenities super nice! They offered lemon water in the lobby and have «mixer» a few nights of the week with drinks and food. There is also a pool (small) but still nice and on the roof top! Overall a fabulous experience, my only negative is the parking. There isn’t much but the metro is VERY close!

They made me feel home the moment I checked in. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and pleasant. She had to give us some vouchers and instead of asking us to wait for them she said she will slip it under the door to our room so we can rest after our trip.
Looks like they just renovated lobby. It had a fresh modern décor. I have read other reviews here where folks had a smaller room. Luckily, The room we got was a very spacious king room with a full-​sized sofa bed. My wife was happy to see that they had Aveda bath products.
The location is close to everything. There is an illy coffee place around the corner. Rasika is across the street. Several other restaurants are also close by. There is a MetroBus stop across the street. The Metro is about a 8 minute walk.
This will be a good option for my next visit to DC.

An organization I was involved with hosted a convention in DC and we used The Renaissance in Dupont as our home base. Overall, we had a really wonderful experience with their management and event coordinator.
However, in the very beginning we had some challenges around the contract. For instance, our contract initially only included X number of rooms; and we were told that if we needed more we could always add them and they will honor the room rate. However, when it became clear that we needed more rooms they did not honor the same room rate and said that it wasnt part of the contract. This caused us to split up our guests between two hotels which was not ideal.
However, besides this initial problem everything went smoothly during the weekend of our event. And our event coordinator was a pleasure to work with.

I think this is actually a great hotel and am a bit confused by some of the reviews. Admittedly, I was only there for 1 night on business, but still overall very good. It was $ 275/​night but in a very good location, modern, and very large rooms. The room service was quite delicious and very quick — not cheap but for good food, I will spend it. They comped my internet because they put me right next to the elevator, which I appreciated. If you plan on parking there, the price for overnight is outrageous! Thankfully I did not have to park. The reason I deducted 1 star because the bathroom was alright — the body lotion seemed used as it was half empty. Also, the bathtub was a little slippery so I’m not sure if they left any cleaning agents on it. However, they have good products: Aveda. Overall, it’s a thumbs up.

I stayed at the Renaissance, Washington, DC Dupont Circle Hotel located at 1143 New Hampshire Avenue. Here is my review:
1) Hotel is overpriced for what you get.
2) I got a bad case of Athletes foot stemming from my hotel room that I assumed was clean for a hotel of this caliber. WRONG ASSUMPTION !!!
3) The housekeeping is awful. They do not leave enough toiletries and its quite a hassle to have to call about this, particularly when its common sense when more than one person is staying in a room to leave sufficient and reasonable toiletries for more than one person.
I spent money in an overpriced hotel and leave with a very bad case of a nasty fungal infection of my feet. There are bathroom disinfectants and carpet cleaners that are very effective against bacteriaI and fungal infections. With proper housekeeping what I went through should not have happened. I paid extra precisely to avoid this kind of thing. It turns out I came back from my trip to Washington, D.C. with more than I bargained for thanks to the poor housekeeping of the Renaissance Washington, DC Dupont Circle Hotel.
*Note: I read a comment about cleanliness and cleanliness does not equate with fungal feet infections. With proper housekeeping people would not come in good health and leave with infections.

This was great value when i bought through
and got parking package. Just showed them the app for them to honour the package. Parked car for us and lets us leave it there all day and all night and then until 6pm the next day!
Rooms small but nice enough and the location was great for bars and a 15 minute walk to Whitehouse.
Git a nice little upgrade for the larger room when he realised there were 4 of us.
Friendly staff and bar open till 11pm.

My friend and I were able to secure an affordable rate for two nights at the Renaissance Dupont Circle via Priceline’s Name-​Your-​Price offering. The lobby was modern and stylish, which raised my hopes for what I would find upstairs. Our room, however, wound up being minuscule and pretty standard. Regardless, the space was clean and offered comfortable beds that we sank right into.
In terms of amenities, the lobby bar had a great selection of wine and cocktails. The service was timely and efficient. There was also an illy coffee shop in the lobby that offered great espresso beverages and delicious croissants. The gym was reasonably appointment with updated equipment and fresh apples. Though we did not sample the food at the restaurant, we saw a salad being delivered to one of the diners, and it looked fresh and robust.
The highlight of this hotel was the location, which was only a few blocks from either Dupont Circle in one direction or Georgetown in the other. It was certainly a walk to the trendy U-​Street Corridor or main tourist attractions, but this also allowed it to be in a quieter and still convenient area.
If the price was right, I would stay there again for sure.

If you stay here you will be located in a nice residential neighborhood. This is a smallish hotel that feels half-​way residential itself, very unlike the big convention hotels downtown. Everyone says hello or good morning whenever you pass by. The breakfast is good, whether in the lounge or restaurant, and the staff is really nice. They can solve your problems night or day. I have to single out James W. for reserving a suite that was perfectly quiet (as requested) and Ashley for checking me in with gusto. One night my TV would not shut off (manual or remote) – not a good thing, no matter how addicted you are to TV – and after a call to the front desk a guy from electrical was up to the room in minutes to fix it.
The tricky TV points to the one problem I did discover here – this hotel is totally worn out in terms of décor and furniture. The first thing I noticed on entering my room was a stain on the carpet, and the sofa was ratty and worn out. The lamps were odd too and didn’t shed much light. (The bed and the linens were fine.) Renaissance is supposed to be an upscale brand within Marriott, so my guess is this place is probably slated to be refurbished quite soon. At least, it should be. I just hope they do the job before I return to D.C. I might want to stay here again.
They do have a sense of humor here, since the hotel was decorated to celebrate Festivus rather than some other December holiday. I think this would be a good place to come for North Korean Independence Day, and invite Seth Rogan and James Franco.

«Nice DC Hotel»
We spent 2 nights here. The hotel is standard for the Renaissance brand. I found the staff to be very helpful. The rooms are clean, comfortable and of a decent size. There is a starbucks in the lobby and the bar area is very nice, we had a few drinks there on both nights after being at local eaterys. The price we paid could not be faulted and it is well located, we walked to the White House and the tour bus stops at the hotel. If coming back I would stay here again.

My experience here was definitely mediocre at best. I chose this place because of its close proximity to the training I had to attend the following morning. I booked last minute so I was charged $ 159 for the night, which is actually not too bad for a Friday night in downtown DC.
When I arrived, I was told the valet parking at the hotel would be cheaper than anything nearby, and I would have a full 24 hours to keep my car there. However, when I called concierge later for more details, I was told a garage across the street was actually $ 20 cheaper, and that I would have to remove my car by 5pm. I had to have a stern talk with the manager about the misleading information and, thankfully, he was very accommodating.
In addition, you have to pay a pretty steep rate for the internet (the connection is decent). The room is quite small and commodities are pretty basic. Room service forgot to give me silverware too!
All in all, I would not return to this hotel. In fact, I was unbelievably happy to check out in the morning!

Rooms are fine. Small but come with the basics. You know, a bed, tv, phone, towels, coffee machine, hair dryer, bathroom, etc.
Room service is available for breakfast or there is a small café in the lobby. They have coffee, bagels, danishes, and some fruit.
Gym in the lowest level has lots of cardio equipment including elliptios, stationary bikes, and treadmills. A few weights but not that much room.
Stairs are around but hard to find and use for actually getting somewhere. They were designed for emergencies not for actual use like getting to the lobby.
Parking is available but Im told its $ 50 a day. Crazy but welcome to DC kids.

Don’t confuse Renaissance Marriott with the actual Marriott since they are only located a street apart. I just got back from my first trip to DC and stayed here for 3 nights.
Since I took the red eye, Ken L. and I arrived early morning so we were planning on dropping off our luggage and coming back in the afternoon to check-​in. I left my phone number with the people at the check-​in counter and was called before noon saying our room was ready. The staff here were very friendly and we were always greeted when we left and came back to the hotel.
The hotel itself looked very modern and clean. There are a lot of sofas/​seats in the lobby along with a handful of computers for guests to use to go online. There is always infused water in the lobby for guests to stay hydrated. Love the taste of the fresh melons/​citrus fruits infused with the water.
Our room was on the smaller side but I was pleased with the cleanliness of the room.
There is a good size gym in the lower level of the hotel. It has the usual treadmills, ellipticals, weights, etc. It’s stocked with a water dispenser and disposable cups, towels, apples, and ear buds for guests to plug into listen to music or to the television sets.
While it’s technically located in Dupont Circle neighborhood, it’s quite a walk from the actual Dupont Circle. The closest metro is actually the one at Foggy Bottom which is a short walk from the hotel. the DC Circulator bus is also another convenient option if you’re going to Gerogetown or Union Station since there is a stop right in front of the hotel. Just keep this in mind while you’re planning your trip to DC. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here.

Although it says it is situated in Dupont Circle area, be forewarned that it’s still quite a walk from the circle. Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle are the two Metro stations closest to the hotel and again, expect some 10−15-minute walk to get there.
Check-​in was a breeze! Thanks to the lovely front desk staff who were very friendly and helpful. They greeted us with all smiles as we walked in to the lobby. A water jar was waiting right next to the counter infused with fresh berries and was perfectly chilled. It was a nice welcome after all the walking we did. We came around noon thinking all we were going to do was leave our luggage since check-​in time was not until 3pm. Much to our delight, our room was ready. Alleluia! Our key cards were handed over and next thing you know, a little cart came out from behind the lobby with stuffed toys and children’s books. My girls got to choose any item from the cart for keeps. They were psyched!
We requested for a King bed but got advised while checking in to get two double beds instead since we were a family of 4. I’m immensely grateful for the suggestion. I expected the beds to be small but were rather big, almost like a Queen. Pillows were soft and fluffy while the mattress was really nice and comfortable. We all slept soundly during our stay. I couldn’t complain… except for one thing, the alarm went off in the morning without us setting it. That was unexpected.
Their bathroom is brightly lit. It had a tub which was convenient with our toddler. Bath products were Aveda and towels were aplenty. There was also a blow dryer in there which is the norm in almost all hotels these days.
No fridge in the room but they had a coffee maker with complimentary coffee and tea. There’s a desk by the window which means they cater more to business travelers. Flat screen tv, check. Lots of drawers, check. I’m quite sure I saw an ironing board and an iron in the closet but don’t quote me on that.
The hotel itself is more like a boutique so the rooms are not huge. They’re moderately sized but didn’t feel cramped at all with our family and all our luggage.
Lobby was nicely decorated for Halloween and an Illy coffee shop resides there as well. I never got to try their food but if anything, there’s lots of dining places around the area.
Overall, a solid place to stay while in DC. If we get a good rate, I’d stay here again but if not, I prefer a place closer to the Metro.
