Great dal chawal!!! I don’t care if you are fancy or not, if you can get this comfort food right, that’s all I need.

It’s odd that a lot of people said that the service was bad, they have more waiters than I think they need and someone is checking on you constantly. I was in the area for a conference and went to eat here 2 times in 4 days, it was fantastic each time(with great service). The ghost(lamb) vindaloo is great, just the right amount of spice, lots of yummy rice. The garlic Naan is also great. And I got a free rice pudding each time I ate there =)

Every time my family and I have a craving for Indian cuisine, we return to Raja ji. We love the festival of the senses in the food and also the wonderful service. We have been coming here for 15yrs. We are always touched by the pride the Raja ji personel show in serving the food! It is always a wonderful experience.

Definitely not a favorite. Buffet didn’t look great so I ordered off the menu and it still was not good. Even the garlic naan was a bit bland… big disappointment.

Wow! My family and I are staying at the Omni and we Unilocaled for dinner. I am in disbelief that this establishment is not rated higher in stars :( Let me start by saying my partner is a chef and it is very rare that we go to dinner and leave satisfied. The food was delicious… All of it. Service was impeccable! Thank you for an amazing meal If you are in this part of town definitely eat here!

I LOVE this place, always a quick and delicious lunch buffet for cheap. We order to go all the time and have had 8 or so different dishes on the menu, our toddler loves the butter chicken. Tikka Masala and Dal are both excellent. Sometimes if you are lucky they throw in free rice pudding that is amazing.

Came in late on a Friday night after Zoo Lights. Very delicious and fresh meals. The servers were super attentive. We had chicken vindaloo and a paneer in tomato curry sauce with naan. Both were bright and flavorful. I originally ordered a different dish(kofta) asking if it contained nuts. The server said no. The back of house manager(?) immediately came out after my order was placed and indicated I should pick a different meal because that it did indeed contain nuts. The servers should know the menu but I’m glad he related the message and realized.

Was hungry hence was expecting good buffet. They had selection of three veggie and two chicken dishes. Not the best buffet but for price of $ 11.95, it’s okay. Food tasted okay but could been better and more heated. Partha was served fresh. Ambience is good and service was quick.

Very bad odor in the main dining area made it impossible for us to have a dine in option. We did the carry out and it was ok food. Won’t come back again and won’t recommend either. There are too many good india food options to come here

I have been going to this restuarant for many years and love the food and atmosphere. I especially like the palak paneer and chicken biryani which you can order as spicy as you like. The staff is professional and friendly and the place has recently undergone a beautiful restoration.

Jeez, why does Indian food in this city always suck? The staff were very nice when we came in bit we should have taken a hint from how empty it was. We got some bhagara baingan which was a little bland and nothing like any bhagara baingan I have had in the past(I’m Indian, and I have had this a variety of times). The rest of the food was a little bland, and lacking in flavor as well. Naan and kulchas were decent, but nothing to go out of the way for. Unfortunately, it seems like you have to go out of your way even more to get decent Indian food without paying a ton(you know which restaurant in referring to).

We ate here on a Friday night. Food and service were great. Not sure why some are posting negative reviews. Everything about this place is top-notch.

The service is terrible and the delivery drivers are exceptionally rude. I should not be greeted at my home with such disgust. I will no longer order from this restaurant.

This is my first vegetarian DC trip, so I was looking for some«healthy» alternatives near my hotel. Of course I checked Unilocal n found this place close by.:n free delivery. I ordered the Palak Paneer which is #9 on the vegetarian menu. I was skeptical about getting cheese late at night :), but I’m glad I made this choice. The flavor is good/typical paneer, not bland… Will have to see how the tummy responds tonight n may update my review :). Service was quick n friendly. food was hot n fresh! The prices are a little higher than other Indian restaurants I’ve been to, but the serving size is decent…2−3 can easily share my order… or enough for left overs.

Reasonable 11.95 buffet. Had 5 veg dishes and 2 non– veg dishes. Would have liked to seen at least 1 more non-veg dish. The 2 they had when I was there for lunch was tandoori chicken and a lamb curry. Chicken was dry and crispy. Naan was made fresh. For dessert there was keer which was really good and rasmalai which was okay. Service was prompt and friendly. Confirmed halal over the phone. May return if in the area and craving Indian food.

Terrible. First of, the service was terrible, it took forever to be seated and my order taken. The food was mediocre. Nothing special about the buffet nor the other food items on the menu. I do want to point out that the waiter however, was nice. What stood out to me is how rude the owner was … Or maybe the manager.(He was dressed really well, didn’t do much except observe everyone). He was really rude to the employees and I over heard him shouting. Someone who treats their employees like that does not deserve my money. But aside from that, the food is 2/5, service 3/5, ambiance 0⁄5 stars. I will not be going back. Sorry, the owner does not deserve my money.

Service was abominable. Took 30 minutes for someone to take our order and 40 minutes before it was delivered, even after we inquired several times. Quality of food was only fair. Never again.

Food here was decent, very comparable to other Indian places I have visited. However, the service was seriously terrible. Our entire dinner took three hours. We had to wait 40 minutes just to order. Many other tables just got up and left after the servers just ignored their inquires into the status of their orders. We were not in a rush, so it wasn’t that big of a deal for us. Overall, if you have lots of time and must have Indian food, this would be an okay stop.

Every restaurant was made for certain types of people. This restaurant was made for people who love awful tasting food. If you want long waits for the food to come, tattered seats that look like nobody cares for the place, and food that(when it finally arrives) tastes awful, come to rajaji! We were in a rush so we ordered 10 minutes ahead of time. However when we got there the food still took another 30 minutes! And the restaurant was dead empty! These people just don’t care and you can expect a 30 – 45 minute wait for the food. When we asked the manager where the food was he just shrugged it off!!! Very rude service! In addition there aren’t any fans or AC and on a warm day this was torture. In summary this restaurant is like an OLD crab-better avoided. There are many other Indian restaurants in the area. Be smart and avoid Rajaji!

I’m not an Indian food expert, but I know what tastes good, and this was great food at a reasonable price for DC. We were promptly seated on the patio. The evening was perfect for May; not too hot or humid. The staff was attentive, although initially we had two people take our drink orders. I ordered samosas and the Kadhai chicken. The samosas were large and stuffed! They were delicious, and went perfectly with the extra sauces we were given. My chicken was also will seasoned, moist and filled with vegetables. The rice was also fluffy and had a hint of saffron. If I’m in the area again, I will go back. It’s right across the street from the Woodley-Park metro.

Gotten take out, and dined in. Very excellent curries. The Murgh Makani is always great, as is the Saag Paneer. However, the REAL stand out is the vindaloo. When they say hot, they mean hot. It is VERY good vindaloo. The lamb particularly.

Having tried them again for takeout, I think two stars was a harsh, and Unilocal has it right at three. For a bite near the metro and the conference center, this will do. Their prices are higher than many other comparable Indian places that I like better, and the décor feels very aged, but it’s convenient and the people there are very courteous. I found their paneer in fenugreek sauce a tad bland, and nothing special for $ 14. The bread and lentil soup were basic, greasy and salty respectively. Not bad, but not great; you could still cross the bridge or get off at another Metro stop and do better.
