Great Indian fast food. Best for lunch or take out for dinner. Butter chicken is solid. Large portions

Excellent service and food. I love their garlic naan and spinach dish. I work close by and go there at least twice a week sometimes three times a week.

Just had their Tikka Chicken Naan Sandwhich, holy delicious. They made the naan right in front of me and used an entire chicken kebob fresh off the firestone grill. If you are craving this sort of thing, avoid the food trucks and come here! Prices on website are not up to date though, so –1 star.

I came here to order lunch to go. And, in their defense, I showed up pretty late in the day(around 3:30PM) so it’s fair that their food wasn’t as fresh as it might have been had I shown up at a normal person lunch time. But the vegetarian options were really lacking in general. The vegetable samosa was decent, my chana was OK, and portions were pretty good… but the palak paneer was pretty inedible. One, it was liquidy — not asmooth purée, I mean liquidy. Like there’s liquid sitting in it. And it doesn’t have paneer(cheese in it). Instead, it’s full of kernels of cooked corn. So one, this isn’t what was advertised because«palak paneer» literally means spinach with cheese, and two, it just wasn’t very good. The corn tasted weird. I don’t think the fact that I showed up late in the day explains away these problems. Probably will not go back unless I have a serious craving.

You’re going to miss this place if you blink … OK if you walk too fast … it’s really authentic, I had the Lamb biryani(mild) with zucchini masala(spicy) and channa(garbanzo)(mild). No choice in heat level so it comes as it comes. A true gem in a sea of corporate chain restaurants and lesser options of food trucks … this place delivers genuine goodness.

We came here for lunch when my coworkers realized our favorite place, G St. foods was closed. Based on the reviews they were kind of hesitant to come here but have been wanting to try it for a while. It’s a really simple on the wall kind of place so don’t expect anything fancy. They had a couple of the specials listed on the board outside the door and when we walked in we saw that all the food was laid out in front of us kind of like you a Chinese restaurant you see at the mall. I was thinking about the veggie combo which was two vegetable dishes plus rice, but then I saw that they actually have some South Indian dishes! Idli sambar, vada sambar, plain dosa and masala dosa!!! I was psyched and ordered the idli. They were out. So I ordered the dosa. Out. Finally they had vada sambar so I got that. It wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t that great(but I am biased because idli and sambar is all I ate in Madurai for 1.5 years). My friends’ biriyani was also ok but nothing fancy. I’ve come back here again to try the veggie combo and it was good – hit the spot and the food wasn’t too heavy. Prices are pretty reasonable. When it’s a nice day out, the outdoor seating is nice to enjoy people-watching and the ambiance.

Decent office lunch Indian. The chicken tikka masala and chickpeas were both servicable to good, if a bit bland. Despite the three star rating, i’d return.

Checking out lunch places around work and this is a gem! I had the meat platter; chili chicken with rice, zucchini and naan. Such a great combination to come back to work and make you coworkers jelly. Enjoyed the orange and green sauces. I loved the green sauce, it’s got a great taste and slowly builds up to a nice heat.

We sought out Naan & Beyond for the roti sandwiches they make, and we stopped in after visiting memorials and before heading to the International Spy Museum. You order at a counter, pay, then when your order is ready you pick it up at the counter. We had lamb roti, chicken roti, and a paneer roti. All three sandwiches were really good– Meat, cabbage, tomatoes, sauce in a rolled up roti. There are four different chutneys that can be pumped from service containers against the wall, and there are coolers of drinks if one is inclined. There is a series of tables that are fairly cramped, and the space is loud, crowded and not super spiffy or clean. At lunch time is was very busy with people taking their lunch breaks from office jobs. The food was really good.

Not worth the lunch funds. Very bland considering the type of cuisine. It’s definitely watered down for mass appeal. It’s not very good. It just fills up your stomach without the tastiness.

Called them three time to ask them a question on the menu to see if there was milk in their naan bread. Nobody picked up. So… We didn’t come at all. Part of 7 people passed. Their loss. Pick up your phone. You might not lose as much business.

Decent place for lunch. Ordered Lamb biryani and Veg Combo for lunch. Lamb biryani was good, it could be better than that. I am always surprised by Pakistani biryani process, why do we need dates in Biryani? Veg Combo wasn’t good.

I’ve never loved this place. Vats of generic prepared Indian food that never looks all that appealing. Not good, but not bad. But then I discovered that I can order a masala dosa and all of a sudden I’m a fan. The dosa was not the best ever, but it was a solid offering and one of the few places to get one in town. Total comes to like $ 8 for a wonderful carb overload. All of a sudden I’m looking at this place in a whole new light.

I have been here many many times as it is across the street from my office. The food is always delicious. There is normally a line.

Ate here for lunch one day last week and really enjoyed my chicken roti, but did not like the samosa… tasted like a tortilla and not a samosa wrapper. Friendly staff, geared for fast food(so not top quality), but fresh and tasty.

The bread very chewy, samosa very very oily, biryani wasn’t fresh, the only thing is the chicken was ok. When they first open the L st location the food was unbelievable. But not any more :-(

For a quick«fast food» Indian lunch, this is not a bad option. For approximately $ 10 you get a complete meal to include an entrée with rice, a main course and a vegetable dish. All this can be mopped up with the freshly made naan. All the dishes seem freshly prepared and authentically seasoned. If you go for lunch during the work week, expect to wait in line. Don’t let the crowd discourage you, it does move fast and service seems pretty efficient. Some drawbacks include the limited indoor seating and sometimes slow inattentive workers. Also, the styrofoam containers and extremely cheap plastic forks are annoying and not eco-friendly. At the end of the day the meal is worth the price. If you need a place to sit, there are several beautiful parks nearby.

This review is for the Naan and Beyond EXPRESS on 1700 Pennsylvania NW by the White house not the one on L st. I noticed some reviewers here were very generous with their ratings and some may have reviewed the L st location while some readers may unknowingly applied those ratings to the Express location. Well, I am here to tell you, Don’t be deceived!!! This place is disgusting!!! Where do I start? The food taste nothing like Indian food. Their chicken Tikka Masala tasted like orange chicken from Panda Express at the mall, I kid you not, it was that bad. How does a Chicken Tikka Masala manage to taste like Chinese food? I was confused! Second, Their naan tasted like pancakes in the sense that all was needed was some maple syrup and you would be good to go. Third, their cauliflower had a disgusting aftertaste that made it painful to swallow. The only thing edible on my plate was the white rice. I was so disappointed, upset, mad at the world because I was really looking forward to chowing down on some Indian food. I worked too hard for my pennies to spend it on bad food. Trust me and save your coins. This place is not worth it.

Typical Indian for Office workers. You won’t be surprised nor disappointed if you set your expectations correctly. Priced to afford. In theory you could get out of here for under 10 bucks. I always sneak a little north of it. The food won’t knock your socks off with heat(unless you’re from New Hampshire, where mayo is considered risqué). What I had — Saag and Corn — It was fine, I’m guessing most folks would expect paneer. — Coconut Curry Chicken(I just can’t do butter chicken, or tikka masala) — basmati — cooked well enough — garlic naan — very nice. It won’t impress anyone who makes Indian at home.(I make Indian at home, and I’m not impressed), but it smells good and is filling. Probably the most interesting thing is that one of the chef’s is from the Philippines. He knows his way around a Tandoor oven, lemme tell ya.

Good lunch spot! I got a veggie platter(2 veggies + rice + bread) and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. They also offer complimentary mango sauce and some other kinds. I absolutely loved the mango sauce! Lunch time line moves fast. Be prepared to spend around $ 10 for your lunch here. Good place to grab a quick lunch if you work nearby.

Naan & Beyond is grasping toward a 4-star lunch joint for carry out. If it’s a sit-down made to order joint you want, it like a 2.5 — I can’t stand to hang out inside it’s got weirdly crowded tiny tables. However I enjoy their food when the array standard sad lunch sandwiches get old(often). Portions are generous. Food is solidly mom & pop Indian food. Their lunch plates come with an entrée &2 sides. Delicious, steamy, hot naan, and all the chutneys you like! Mango, Hot, Mint and Tamarind Chutney — all day er’day! I hate when places charge extra for these. Butter chicken is tasty, veg dishes are good too. I love their chicken Tikka Cesar Salad — it’s a real meal but rather basic — great for folks scared to try too much spice but stuck in a rut. The mango Lassi is pretty on point and even the Rasmalai(rice pudding-ish dessert) is refreshing and lightly creamy. The sheesh takes about seven minutes, but it’s darn tasty. Note the Naan sandwich is a filling alternative to snooze food, but it has raw cabbage as a topping, not lettuce — just fyi in case it’s not your thing. I say drown it in chutney and eat your veg! This is one of my favorite lunch spots — totally worth a try.
