Mount Pleasant Massage Therapy

I don’t know how Elizabeth isn’t famous in DC because she has incredible prenatal (pregnancy) massage skills. She was recommended to my by my doula and I wish I had found her months ago. She has package deals so you can get in to see her regularly. She had lots of pillows and cushions for bolstering and instead of doing a gentle massage on a pregnant lady, she addressed the pregnancy issues I was having (rib compression, swelling in my legs, sacrum soreness) with special techniques that helped me sleep better! She showed me how to have my husband work on my legs, suggested hanging out in a pool (which I did and now my legs are soooo much better). I am going to see her as many times as possible before I deliver and can’t say enough good things. If you are pregnant — see Elizabeth — it will make your experience much less miserable!

Elizabeth is incredibly knowledgeable about the body. She went after my knots with precision and care. She also has a nice, quiet studio with some funky Asian decorations. She is very professional about keeping clients’ information private, and I find her prices quite reasonable.

I’ve been going to Elizabeth once every month (sometimes twice) for almost a year now. Her demeanor is very calming and professional. And her technique is impeccable. She always makes sure to address my problem areas (i have chronic stiff neck and shoulders). Ive been to many many massage therapists over the years and she is absolutely the best.
She runs the massage space out of her professionally setup space in her home — there is a separate entrance to the massage space. There is a separate, dedicated bathroom for clients that is always immaculate and clean. The price points are reasonable and affordable — I dont think you’ll get a better deal anywhere else in the DC/​VA/​MD area.
I have referred many friends to Elizabeth and they are all fans. Im very sad to be moving away from DC because she is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend!

I went to Elizabeth for the first time today after I was having a lot of pain in my shoulders from either too much yoga or an old back injury… probably a bit of both.
She runs the massage business out of the finished basement in her house. The interior is spartanly decorated with a massage table, a screen that separates the space. The only major decoration is large Buddha statue. However, it is everything that I want from a massage space — warm, quiet and inviting with relaxing music.
She started the session by going over my medical history with me and talking about my needs. It was a bit more formal than any massage that I have had previously but I appreciated her taking the time to discuss my particular back issues.
During the massage, she did not talk except to ask a couple of questions which I prefer. She really focused on the trouble areas in my back which is exactly what I wanted. The lotion she used was very nice — neither strongly scented nor super greasy.
Overall, I would say that she is friendly and professional… everything that I want in a massage therapist.

Elizabeth is very professional and definitely knows how to work those knots and aches out of your muscles. She is short on words, sometimes to the point of seeming a bit curt on the phone even though she is always professional; she won’t talk you up during your massage nor will she give long-​winded answers to things you may ask her. During the massage, you feel like all of her energy is spent on you, which is a very good thing from a masseuse; it never feels like she is distracted from the job. She will hit on knots you didn’t even realize you had, and she’ll direct her focus on whichever area you indicate is most desired. Also, no wimpy massages — she has strong hands.
She uses really great lotions for the massage, which I totally appreciate. You won’t walk out of your massage session feeling and looking like you’ve been dipped into a vat of oil, or smelling strongly of anything that would give away the fact you’ve just spent an hour being pampered. It can be your little secret when you return to work or head off to evening activities.
Her studio is a partitioned area of her basement with soft lighting and spartan decorations. My first visit here I was unsure if I was down with the atmosphere, but my second visit it somehow felt more comfortable. The only thing I was a little uncomfortable with is that the back door has a window in it that does not have a curtain and there is no waiting area, so I wondered what might happen if another client came early for their appointment. They could essentially look right in on me in my rather vulnerable situation. Maybe a nice sheer curtain over the back door window would help this.

Elizabeth runs the place out of the basement of a house in Columbia Heights, so it’s easy to miss, but don’t worry, it in no way reflects her work. She’s calm, professional and courteous. She really worked with me; asking me (before the massage) what areas I needed help with and adjusting the massage to suit my needs.
