Mimosa Beauty Salon

Yikes — this was the exact opposite of relaxing. There are too many people in a very, very small space — I couldn’t move and for anyone who is even slightly claustrophobic (and doesn’t like strangers bumping into you or stepping all over your stuff) — stay away. I came for a fun Friday evening girls night with champagne but they didn’t get drinks until we were out the door. Would avoid if you want anything non-​anxiety inducing.

I went here today for the first time and had a really good experience. I just came in for a plain manicure but there were tons of colors to choose from and i was seated immediately. The technician also took tools out of sterilized bag which was really comforting. What I liked most is that no one tried to up-​sell me and tell me I should get shellac or pedicure. It was simple and affordable.
The only thing I noticed that I didn’t like was how crowded it was in there. It is a very tight layout and also pretty loud. But for a simple nail salon, I really liked it and I would recommend it to people who want an affordable no frills experience.

love this place. I’ve been here 20+ times and have never had a bad experience. I’m PICKY about my nail salon and think they do a great job. attentive, well priced, and they always fit you in even though they’re always packed. even after their main nail salon burned down, they were up and running shortly after at their sister salon next door. love them!

I went to Mimosa last night for a mani/​pedi. I now have a Doctor appointment scheduled today because my skin is literally burning off from the callus removal he got on my legs. See pictures attached. It’s not worth the risk. Clearly they do not know what they’re doing.

The salon is extremely crowded and a bit chaotic. Apparently, it was two locations and they combined it into one recently. I was originally going to get both a pedicure and a manicure but after saying «ouch» one too many times during my pedicure and seeing how the nail polish looked completely inconsistent on my nails I decided to forego the manicure and call it a day.

This was my go to place until today. I travel well out of my way to come here. And I’ll admit I’m not an easy customer. I usually get at least 3 colors and have no rhyme or reason for which nails they go on until I sit down. Anyway today… after going for over a year now… they decide I have to pay more for 3 or more colors. Did they suddenly change the policy because I was here a couple weeks ago. Also, when I explained this is how I always get my nails the tech proceeded to tell me «well I’m charging you more today.» Dont give me attitude and subpar work. Thankfully they adjusted the price but I’ll only go back if I make an appointment with Michelle.

Asked for someone, and because she was busy they said they would get someone else to start in my nails. They said this multiple times. Wound up waiting for half an hour without anything being done on my nails (their 10 minutes kept extending) because the girl in front of me kept asking for extra stuff for her nails. Got mad at the third extension and walked out.
Think they didn’t want to get started because splitting the commission is annoying. But way to keep me waiting for half an hour.

Fun to visit! I enjoyed my time there. Had a pedicure — the sweet lady who did it scored my pinky toe a bit too much and I had a scab on my right pinky toe. I wasn’t able to inspect it until I got home — not too severe and the lady was sweet. I tipped her anyway and enjoyed the time there. I probably will visit another salon in the future.

Best gel nails I’ve had in the city (last like three weeks and great color choices) and they have a lot of staff and chairs so you can drop in without waiting long most of the time. Also, they’re open late, best hours. However, last time I went for a manicure, there was a rat crawling all over me and my friend’s feet. Since we were almost done with our manicures, we stayed and just stuck our feet straight out in the air because it was so, so gross. The staff just didn’t acknowledge the infestation at all, didn’t apologize or anything. Wouldn’t go back until they get things more sanitary inside.

There is no wait here despite the large number of people that go into the salon, they move people through quickly. All of the nail technicians do good jobs, but be warned, the nail polish comes off very quickly which is rare with pedicures. They also really try to talk you into getting more services, but be careful because the service increases in price really quickly, ask how much everything they suggest will cost, even if you think it won’t be extra, it probably will be. Still, this place is conveniently located near Dupont Circle on Connecticut Avenue. The staff is friendly though. If you are looking for a quick, good pedicure or manicure, this place is worth a try. They serve champagne/​wine which is a trend I have noticed most nail salons are offering now.

Great service. Walked in and even though they were super busy only waited about 5 minute. Professional service and very clean. They wrap the bowls for each person and tools are not reused. I didn’t realize they did hair too! I Amy have to come back and get my hair done.

I came to this nails salon and my first impression was it was small and crowded but I know they has another close by site that had its window busted out and I assumed that was the cause of the over crowding.
What I could not account for was the rudeness and frantic atmosphere. I was asked by several different people what I was having. The same lady came coming back to me and asking the same thing and then appeared to be upset that she kept getting it wrong!
My friend was drying her nails after her manicure and a hair fell into it. The lady seemed so upset to have to add another coat. And worst of all when my one friend went to check on our other friend the nail tech hushed her and then pushed her! NO BUENO

I was sold when my friend told me that they use new plastic bags for each customer in the pedicure bowl. Also realized that they use new tools for each customer as well. That right there brought me great joy! My manicure was great as well, and all this while sipping refillable champagne. Why NY… why do you not do these things??? I was satisfied with my mani & Pedi, but now I shall go back to doing my nails myself since I’m back in NY. Haven’t found a nail salon I trust with clean practices, or proper customer service.

I really love this place. Ryan is the best for acrylic nails and he is so nice.
The beat part is how late they are open. I don’t know any other nail salon that stays open until 11pm. It is great for my busy schedule. The place is very clean and the staff is all very nice. Plus you get champagne while getting yours nails done so it’s really a win win.

Upsides to mimosa– lots of champagne/​alcohol, great quality work, friendly service, reasonable prices, second floor upstairs so there’s a lot of space.
Downsides to mimosa– the space is very cramped, and they’re usually packed (presumably because of all the free alcohol…), so you have to wait forrrrrrever even with an appointment. They might seat you, which is nice, but that doesn’t mean they’ll start working with you anytime soon. The last time I was there with my girlfriends, we waited over 30 minutes in the chairs for someone to come see us. We were given champagne while waiting, which was nice, but it was still exhausting. We were there for three hours on a week night even with appointments.
My polish lasts and the quality of work is good, and I’m always down for free champagne, so if I have two or three hours to kill and am not in a rush I would go to Mimosa. If you’re looking for quick and efficient, I would not recommend them.

Mimosa is my go to nail salon. It is hard to find a decently priced manicure/​pedicure in DC.
I recommend coming here for Happy Hour — Monday — Wednesday. Gel manicures are down from $ 30 to $ 25 and pedicures are down from $ 28 to $ 25. I still think $ 28 is pretty expensive for a pedicure, but this is the norm in DC.
The thing I like about Mimosa is that there are actually two locations right next to each other. If one is too busy, you can always try the other. The staff are attentive for the most part (when they’re not super busy) and do a pretty good job.
They offer you a glass of champagne when you come in, which is a plus.
They have a great variety of colors for both gel and regular colors. For the gel colors, they do have sample colors on the outside of the bottles, so you can KIND of tell what the color will look like.
This place does get VERY crowded so I would recommend coming in at off hours.

Ok I think a 3 is fair here. i have been back because I love some of the ladies, but I will not again go on a saturday!

After 2+ years of living in DC, I have found no better place to enjoy a mani/​pedi than Mimosa salon.
— There is never a wait
— The prices are fair ($ 30 or less for a gel mani)
— Gel manis don’t chip for weeks
— There are a number of color/​brand polishes to choose from
— Massage chairs for pedis are always on point. Never had a broken one!
— You can opt for a number of additional services — foot/​leg massages, sugar rubs, etc.- for a good price
— They take tips on credit cards (many places accept cash only).
— You get FREE champagne during your entire visit. Yes, FREE. During the ENTIRE visit.
This place does get crowded, especially on Sundays. However I have never had to wait for more than 3 minutes (it was really just to have someone get their makeshift shoes on and move out of the chair). The best experiences I’ve had here have been after a boozy brunch, when I feel the need to continue pampering myself with my friends.
Treat yo’self, and take yo’self to Mimosa Salon.

My friend and I came here after a misunderstanding in our reservations at another nail salon. They were able to take us in 20 minutes which was convenient. Didn’t realize how small and cramped the place is though! We were literally squeezing in to get to our chairs. My nail technician did the same and knocked down a few things before she got into her chair in front of me. The whole place stank of strong chemicals too.
My technician seemed rushed because they were so busy. She didn’t talk much either. The worst part of the experience was when she took a big chunk of my skin when she was cutting my cuticle. My finger kept bleeding for the next 10 minutes. She was apologetic but how can I enjoy my manicure when my finger was stinging? She did bring me a 2^nd glass of complimentary champagne. And the manicure was $ 15. I guess you get what you pay for.
I’ll probably not come back because of how claustrophobic I felt. My nose feels funny from the strong smells and I have an unwarranted injury. There’s more space upstairs and only a few clients. I don’t know why they don’t split up their customers between the two floors.
