Mike Jones – State Farm Insurance Agent

Moved to DC and wanted to stay with State Farm, who I had been with for 12 years. The set up was fine– but there was 0 communication afterwards. I had a mix-​up with my mailing address and wasn’t receiving mail– and my policy lapsed (I had no idea) and there wasn’t a phone call, email– nothing to say, ‘hey, you’ve been with us for 12 years and we were just calling to confirm you wanted to terminate your policy.’ Then they wouldn’t re-​instate my policy when I straightened out what had happened with my mail! After 12 years of business with them.
I’m with GEICO now and my rates are lower– and the costumer service has been stellar so far.

I moved to DC from California last year, and I’ve always appreciated State Farm’s great service. I called this office (because of the other Unilocal review) to have them switch my account over. The woman on the phone was really nice and helpful, said she’d call my CA agent and get it all started and call me back the next day. This was in October. I haven’t heard from them since. I’ve called and reached an automated system, I’ve left messages, I’ve emailed their general info address. I had to register my car and needed DC insurance, so I switched to Geico, which I’m loving (so far).
The worst part is that I emailed my CA agent to let them know I had cancelled my policy, and I explicitly said in writing that they no longer had authorization to charge my credit card. I removed my CC information from my online account. After a charge went through, which infuriated me (how do they still have my info? Even if my account can’t be cancelled by email, they still can’t charge my damn card — they should have sent me a notice saying payment wasn’t going through) — I called State Farm HQ and talked to a very sweet lady who said she couldn’t reimburse me, but she’d contact my agent and list my policies as cancelled in their system. Of course, haven’t heard from the agent, and I just got a standardized State Farm email politely letting me know my bill is ready to view… If I have to put a hold on my credit card to get them to stop charging it, I’m going to be PISSED.

So, I have been meaning to write this for a while… I am no longer with State Farm, mainly because of the lack of response I got form Mike Jones Insurance Agency after my car was hit (while parked) by an uninsured driver driving a car that was not his.
Let’s just say that no «Good Neighbor» was there for me when my 3-​year-​old car was hit…
My car should have been totaled, but State Farm had it repaired… for $ 8000. It’s a Corolla, so the damages were more than half the value of the car. The repairs took more than a month, and the «certified» repair shop was extremely shady.
After I filed a claim with State Farm (since it was hit by an uninsured motorist and therefore covered by my policy), State Farm did not call me once. I NEVER spoke with Mr. Jones, and I when I did call his office, I was told to call State Farm’s claim office and talk to someone on «Team 22.» I had several issues with my car and the repairs, and I never spoke to the same State Farm person more than once. I had to reexplain my situation EVERY time I called «Team 22.» It was frustrating and the people on «Team 22» showed very little concern.
Within days of the accident, I actually did get a phone call from a very nice person at GEICO, as they were representing another person who had their parked car hit by the same driver as well. They wanted to help coordinate the details of the accident and help me out however they could. They created an account for me for this incident –even though I was not their customer.
State Farm’s lack of personal customer service made this an awful experience. What’ the point of having a local insurance provider if you do not hear from them when you actually need them?
Well… a few months later, I got married, added my husband to my insurance, and switched to GEICO… and wouldn’t you know? I am saving $ 30 /​month and have better coverage and an additional driver on my insurance. AND I have had great service from GEICO.
I called Mike Jone’s office to confirm my cancellation, and I did get Mr. Jone’s on the phone himself. First time… and the last for this disappointed customer.

State Farm Agent Mike Jones, I don’t have others insurance agents to compare you to, but I do know good customer service and you’ve been good to me.
1) When I hit a deer last year, you were calm and efficient at getting my car fixed and letting me know the process with minimal hassle. Thank you.
2) No hassle for my low mileage rate reduction this year. And thank you for the reimbursement check last year.
3) Also, thanks for letting me know my options for when someone sideswiped my parked car last year and didn’t leave a note. I didn’t know that if you file a police report, your deductible for superficial damage is a lot lower ($ 200 instead of full cost of repair). Thanks for looking out for me.
I’ve never been to their physical office location, but I do pester them on the phone once in a while. When I first called 2 yrs ago, they had a very snippy receptionist who could never get my name right (My last name is not difficult to say or spell, and I also do not appreciate being asked where I am from right after I tell people). However, the guy Anthony I’ve been dealing with as of late has been polite and helpful. He explained to me how a rate change would work (especially so close to the due date for my 6 month premium). Also, since the State Farm site was down, he happily took my credit card over the phone for payment so I wouldn’t be late.
In conclusion: I may not know a lot of insurance agents, but I know that if other adult responsibility-​type-​businesses operated half as well as these guys *ahem*Comcast*ahem* the world would be a much better place.
