Metro Bus S9 Silver Spring-McPherson Square

This bus goes exactly where I need to go I just wish they would let college students in for free or at least a reduced price. I have to pay for college on my own and paying two to three bus rides a day is a lot for a college student.

Yes, I love this bus… but it picks you up at McPherson almost a full block from the S2 and S4 stop. So… you see the S9 and you hightail it over there only to find out it’s going to sit there for 20 minutes. Well, they don’t tell you anything, it does just sit there for 20 minutes. In the meantime, a dozen other S2, S4, 42, 43… fly by you, stopping down the block.
Anyway, the simple solution would be for the S9 to stop where the other busses stop. Or stick to its schedule… but it’s metrobus, so that’s never gonna happen.

This is the bus we’ve all been waiting for … assuming you need a bus along 16^th Street. For many months, I stood waiting for the S buses (S1, S2 and S4) only to see bus after bus already packed with passengers. A 10 minute bus ride would easily become 30 minutes just waiting for people to cram inside an already crowded bus. This also assumes that you weren’t already waiting 20 minutes for the first available bus.
Our prayers were heard.
WMATA introduced in March the limited-​service S9 Express Bus (
) that runs from Silver Spring, MD to McPherson Square in DC. There are 16 stops instead of the usual 54. Between Irving Street and M Street there are only 4 stops. And, more importantly, most of these S9 buses are brand new and top-​of-​the-​line. There are even handles along the rail that passengers can grab a hole of (no more clinging to a stripper pole). On the down side, the S9 Express Service is rendered useless during heavy congestion. When cars are bumper to bumper during rush hour, the S1 can be just as fast as the S9 (at least between Irving & M St.). Nevertheless, we can always use more buses.
