Max James – State Farm Insurance Agent

I’m not sure if this is the same agent that helped me with a huge apartment fire I had in 2008 (that agent was AWESOME!), but after moving back to DC in 2014 and signing up for insurance through this agent, I was a little disappointed with the office.
When I moved from DC to NC and called to request that I move my policy (I talked with LaShawn), they said they’d take care of it but unfortunately never did. So I was unknowingly uninsured in NC for a year as my DC policy was active. I called them multiple times to see if they’d return the money (~$ 100) used on the DC policy while I was in NC, but the lady (Nikkia) always said she’d reimburse me and call me back «that night» although I never heard from her again. After about three calls, I gave up.

Super friendly, reliable, and responsive. Max James offered us excellent customer service, and we left having had a great experience. Would highly recommend his services to family and friends.

I trust Mr. James with my life… Literally
I have numerous policies, a mutual fund, IRA and just opened my son’s 529 plan with his agency. I have only had great experiences with this agency so I was extremely disappointed to see all of the negative reviews.
When it comes to my finances I fully trust Mr. James. He has always given me advice that I felt was honest, valuable and tailored to my situation. I never felt like he was trying to pressure me in to something I didn’t need or want.
I also really appreciate the free annual IFR (insurance financial review) that is offered to all of his customers. I’ve talked to friends and coworkers about my IFR and they say that their insurance company or agent do no not offer the service.
I have been with his agency for 8 years and don’t plan on going anywhere.

Here’s an update on what happened. After more silence from Max James, I contacted State Farm’s central customer service office to complain about this agent. It must be said that the customer service reps were very responsive: a manager called me back straight away and they investigated the case. A few days later, they called to apologize about what had happened and offered to switch the agent for us, which we accepted. We never heard back from Mr James, ever. Since this review is for him (as opposed to Statefarm in general), the review retains a solid 1 star.

I’ve had this agent for too many years… and I can rarely get their office to answer the phone. They’ve changed agents a few times — and I’m not even sure who Max James is — although his name is on my policy. I’ve been trying to reach their office for the last week… and can’t get an answer. Either the phone just rings or I get a message saying they are closed.
I’m changing agents now.

I am a State Farm customer, and when I moved to DC my policy was transferred to Max Jame’s office. I tried to get renters insurance, and his staff person I was working with seemed like they had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about redistributing coverage (I was just sent a PDF of a quote, and none of my questions were answered). I have chains of emails where it seems like his staff person has absolutely no idea what they’re doing.
Also, I needed to submit paperwork verifying my car’s mileage to enroll in a lower-​cost policy for the next year, and I received an email asking me to fill out the attachment, and there wasn’t attachment. That same day, I received a letter in the mail saying I failed to submit the necessary paperwork, and the bottom of the email said «please contact us with questions,» but there wasn’t any contact information. What type of business doesn’t have contact information in their signature line?
I am transferring my policy to another State Farm agent in the area.

Worst agent! terrible staff… zero customer service. Not worth the money try another company
